Be forewarned, this is a very frank, graphic depiction of slavery. However, if you can stomach its brutality, you will be rewarded with a heroic tale of a man who refused to give up on life in the face of the most dire circumstances. 12 Years a Slave is a very deserving Best Picture.

Great movie based on facts, incredible acting, incredible scenes that will have one questioning how man can be so cruel to one another, and what is in their hearts and minds to allow them to be like this,,, even to this day. I'd hope that their madness isn't just driven by fear.

This is a must see by everyone. It is a wonderful story of painful history, great balance of character and layers of cultures. You get a very meaningful explanation of the hopelessness and depravity of slavery. This is also a story of redemption and the value of human dignity.

It was a good movie but it hurts my heart to know that people treated others that way because of the color of their skin. Its also sad because the way the youth act today. They have no clue of the struggle,trials and tribulations of others so that their lives could be better.

I can see why this won best picture of the year, amazing story about one man's life, since most stories done like this are done about the overall time period of slavery, etc. Where this movie was very interesting focusing on one man's journey and everything he went through.

Excellent movie. It is powerful, heart wrenching, and incredible look into the life of slaves. This film and the book should be required material for U.S. high schools. My only complaint is that there wasn't a special edition of this movie, that I could find at least.

Once you see this movie, you will know why it won the academy award for the "Best Picture". This is a wonderfully inspiring movie, with the acting being incredible. This movie gave you an up close and personal view of a time in history that should not ever be forgotten!!

Typically, I do not purchase a lot of movies because once you've seen them, most are not worth buying. However, for this movie, I decided to purchase because it is one of the better movies I've seen so I'll watch it many times through the course of the year!!

As an African American I have seen many slave movies roots to Amistad. And this one by far was different from the rest. It showed a different point of view the slave who was free and the north and tricked to the south. It is a riveting story and I recommend it to anyone

This to me was one of the best movies of the year. It was so realistic and the actors were great. It really gave you a feel of some of the horrible things that went on during slavery. This movie was so good I probably will never watch ot again of that make any sense .

I enjoyed the movie. I love that these were the words was from the man himself. He recalled his life story the Good and the Bad. He was a free man , he was enslaved by the white men who sold him for money. He didn`t give up on life and fought to get back his freedom.

I'm still amazed on how many people have not seen this movie yet. A must see! One of the best groups of actors and actresses that play great parts about such a horrible time for so many people in American history. 2 thumbs up

This movie graphically show some of the horrors of slavery. It is an adult movie and it's not for the faint of heart. The movie has good action and actors. It is definitely worth watching.

Powerful story of a freed black man later captured and traded as a slave. The depiction of slave life and their interaction with their owners was revealing. We've seen other movies of this time but through the eyes of a freed man took on a different perspective.

My husband wanted this movie so I bought it for him for Christmas. Saw it a long time ago but anxious to see it again with him since we watch A LOT of tv during Covid.

The film was outstanding in all aspects. It is a bit graphic at times, but that was needed to illustrate the story. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong"o were fantastic in their roles. The film well deserved its wins for best picture and best supporting actress.

This is a great movie! It has a great story that really draws you in. The actors in this movie also do a great job in their roles. I would recommend this to anyone to watch. The awards show got it right when they named this one of the best movies of the year.

Highly Recommend! Great movie to see. Never a dull moment. I see why it won the Oscar for movie of the year. Will definitely recommend this to several people. The price was right too for blue ray, digital download, and DVD. Best place to buy it is Best Buy.

This isn't a documentary so you can overlook the obvious political correctness in it. There are a number of scenes where people are almost cartoons in that they are one-dimensionally pure good or completely evil. In real life it isn't like that. But its a movie and a darn good one worth watching, since after all slavery was evil and its good to know history about it, even dramaticized history versions like this.

Being an African-American, I found this film to be very rewarding. It noted things I have not noted in other films such as Roots, Queen and Shaka Zulu. An outstanding production that my family and I are still discussing with our children and grandchildren.
