Most people don't know much about WW1 - the war to end all wars - but this film gives us a glimpse into it. Like Dunkirk it is a harrowing experience. This film really is staggering! The war scenes are portrayed in a gritty style and best of all the film is shot in a style that makes it seem like it all took place as one long shot. You'll recognize the actors Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch who have small parts in this film. Otherwise the film is carried by George MacKay and by Dean-Charles Chapman. Their performances are outstanding! The film was directed by Sam Mendes. You must see this film!

Really enjoyed ‘1917’ in my home theater as much as on the big screen. It was a 2.5 hour movie and I could stop at my leisure from home ! This 4K version brought out every detail, though it was not a “popping colorful” movie- muted war scenes. The cinematography was truly fantastic though, including night scenes. “Constant filming” was a first for me...the camera NEVER left the characters for a second. A lot of great war movies out there. Not many WWI films. Highly recommended.

The Blue-ray comes in a nice package and the artwork is great! The movie itself is a beautiful, poignant look at the way that wartime and its constant violence affect the health, both mental as well as physical, of both active soldiers as well as civilians. With strikingly accurate depictions of both scarred and abandoned battlefields as well as cities, this is sure to pique the interest of any WW1 history buff. The acting as well is first rate and those factors plus the story have me readily recommending this movie to anyone who isn’t particularly squeamish.

I was quite blown away by this wonderful movie. It was the best depiction I have ever seen of the extensive trench warfare system highly evolved during WWI. Camera work brought you right INTO the trenches, not just above them, and the experience is extremely lifelike and plausible. the entire movie is excellent, and the camera work and directing are just superb. furthermore, there are excellent videos included in the Blu-Ray edition on the making of the movie, notably on the camera work rail system used in making the movie. This is a valuable addition to any war collection on video.

Humanity in the midst of so much inhumanity to our fellow man. Imagine yourself in the position of having to carry one message, to save so many whom you have never met and one that you grew up with. No cell phones, no blasters, no quiet nights alone in a safe and well protected place. Just you and nature; on a mission to save so many. A situation like so many people find themselves in today. A bit of kindness and thought for others would go a long way (today). This movie is a reflection of who we once where; and with some effort; could be again. Enjoy...

April 6th, 1917 – the Western Front. As a regiment assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two British soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap. To get to the regiment they will need to cross through enemy territory. It is stunning to watch from start to finish. The amount of work that went into this film – filmed as one shot – is incredible. The story never stalls, and has a fair balance between war and humanity, and has some of the most incredible camera work I've seen in a while. Don’t miss it.

One of my new favorite war films. It's very unique where each scene was filmed as a single take, so it gives a very unique feel. There's an obvious tension present through the entire movie. For picture quality it was filmed at 4.5K and finished at 4K and it shows. Watching on a Sony X950H it looks amazing. Listening with a Klipsch 5 channelRP surround system it sounds just as good. I can only imagine a proper Atmos system would be even better.

The most exciting movie in years! Shot in "real-time" camera takes, I could only count 3 possible scenes where the cameras could have been put down. Otherwise, it's a 2+ hour rollercoaster of heart-pounding action, awesome acting by the entire cast, and a chilling portent to the current war in Ukraine. By far the best movie of the year, and it should have received multiply acting and technical Academy Awards. This is why we go to the movies!

Bought this for a gift - haven't seen it but I know people who loved it. Five stars for Best Buy's curbside pickup. They don't make you have a special app - you just order online, get an email receipt like usual but which has a button on it to click when you get there. When you arrive, pull up the email, click the "I'm here" button, enter your parking spot number and car color and they come right out with your things. THANK YOU Best Buy for making this service available (especially without having to use an app, like some other stores do)!

1917 is not a typical Hollywood war movie. It is not concerned with giant set pieces, rather it focuses on two young soldiers on a desperate mission to deliver a message across enemy lines to save 1600 men. At times it feels more like a horror film than a war film, and this works beautifully to convey the horrific nature of warfare. The cinematography is nothing short of outstanding. It is all filmed to appear as if it is one continuous shot (much like God of War on PS4), and the effect is a film that is highly immersive. The steelbook packaging is simply beautiful.

I recently purchased a New Samsung Q90T 65" (2020) Q-LED TV and matching Q950T Samsung Soundbar and 4K UHD Blu-ray Player and wanted to purchase a few really good 4K UHD Movies to show off the picture and ATMOS surround audio. This DVD does not disappoint. It was one of the first 4K UHD DVD Movies I purchased with my new system. It was like being at the Movie Theatre! Great movie with plenty of action scenes with very good Surround sound. And I got it on sale! Better than going to the Movies, especially now since COVID-19.

Absolutely amazing film that truly makes it feel like a classic "one take" film where it begins at a tree and never cuts except for ONCE where some hours have to pass, and then ends at a tree - all without any cuts. Of course, this is just movie magic, but watch it with that in mind, and it becomes even better than it already is. Instant classic that is best experienced. Most importantly, though, is that this steelbook is gorgeous and far, FAR better in person than any photos or videos can do credit to. Buy it immediately!

Enjoyed this movie immensely. It was refreshing to watch some main characters being performed by actors I have never seen before. I was impressed by the two main characters. The way the movie was filmed was a great idea. I also enjoyed the musical score. You will also find the extras very informative. As a retired history teacher I would find this movie an excellent classroom study - however I would probably not be able to use it because of the language - not as bad as most movies these days but still probably not appropriate for the classroom.

The fact that the movie moves so smoothly from scene to scene in a way that all the time leaves us thinking that we were with the main character all the time, give us the impression that we are going through the same situations as he moves along in trying to complete his mission. By the time he accomplished his mission, we are as exhausted as he is, plus glad that it was over. This 4k HDR version does justice to the visual effects used all through the movie, besides the fact that it looks fantastic.

I saw the movie in theaters and this is absolutely one of my favorite takes on WW1. The mission, the tension building as they carried out their orders, and the cathartic ending are chillingly well done. I generally like TV series' more than movies because movies don't have the opportunity to develop characters and conflicts well enough, but this has the perfect balance. I'd love to see a WW1 movie executed by this director.

I think that 1917 is one of the finest movies ever produced! It is the type of spectacular that they used to make like Spartacus, Ben Hur, and Gone With The Wind. It is an absolute masterpiece. Everything from the musical score, the directing, the acting, And the cinematography is first rate. We saw it at the theater, and the 4K Blu-ray presentation in our own home theater (Marantz electronics, Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player, Martin Logan speakers and 75 inch Samsung QLED 80 series television) was almost as impressive. Highly recommended!!!

I'm not a big war movie fan, but I went to see 1917 with my Dad since he is into war movies. I was blown away by how amazing it was! There is a lot of emotion involved and the film doesn't glorify the World Wars in the way other war movies sometimes do. I would definitely recommend this movie to others. Best Buy was also great! I had pre-ordered the movie for store pick-up. However, businesses started closing about a week before the movie was released and Best Buy let me switch to shipping so that I would still be able to get it.

Wow, watching this movie in 4k Dolby Vision is an immersive experience for sure! I really cannot fault anything about the picture and audio quality here. I purchased this (along with a few others) when I bought my Sony 4k Blu-ray player and it is partially what lead to me purchasing more in the BD 4k UHD format. The movie itself is excellent too, although this would obviously vary depending on your tastes.
