    Hard hitting war drama

Image, sound, acting, costumes, set design and best of all the camera work make this one of the best war movies to date. The sound envelopment builds to a searing climax as the main character finally makes it to the command station as he dodges running soldiers, muddy terrain, exhaustion and exploding shells as the music and sound effects combine to portray his desperation throughout his run across the battlefield. Bears up very well on repeated viewings. Not to be missed.

Like the box in the picture says one of the best war films of all times easily by far one of the best if not the best. Action packed from start to the ending. It’s so good I bought it and watched it three times during a weekend it was that good. If your into history or war movies at all you’ll for sure fall in love with this film here. Highly recommended.

    Stunning 4K video

The plot is good, the acting pretty good, but it's obvious why this movie won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. On a good 4K display, the picture quality is outstanding. Surround sound is also superb. The movie is shot as if it is one continuous scene. You almost don't notice any edits which works well with the story. If you just want to see how good a high quality 4K display (like an LG OLED display) can look, this movie will blow you away.

This should be watched by everyone even if your not a war movie type of person just for the cinematography alone. After watching the movie I instantly wanted to jump into the bonus features to see the amount of effort it took to make this gem. After all the world ending threats and catastrophes that movies now seem to sit out it's nice to have a small contained film where you can actually spend time with the characters instead of being shifted to 50 other locations.

Great Movie about sacrifice and courage

This was a depiction of a war most of us knew little about. Conditions were horrible and although this movie didn’t get into the pandemic or unbelievable suffering these soldiers endured, it did show some of how it was fought. It gave some insight to the sacrifices our soldiers have given for their countries and their fellow soldiers. 4K was awesome and this was a good short story about a portion of one ugly war. Highly recommended.

Excellent Picture Quality - Not A Movie Review

I viewed this on a LG 65 inch B7 OLED. The details in the picture and the black levels are stunning. Because of the subject matter not a lot of HDR highlights. Very clean looking picture with no film grain. Easy to see why it won Oscars for cinematography and visual effects. I have a 2.1 sound system so I can not comment on the surround sound. Not sure I would use this as a demo to show off my TV but definitely worth owning this disc if you like this movie.

Though this is a dreary film (in terms of color), the level of detail in 4K is appreciated. (I watched in HDR 10+.) I have other war movies that I like better (Saving Private Ryan), but this one still held my and my father's attention late at night. [Disclaimer: Much of the movie has the illusion that it was shot continuously (i.e. without cut). It is unique in this regard. Some might find it to be slow as a result.]

One of the better war movies I've ever seen. Two British soldiers in WWI must deliver a warning to a battalion about an impending trap. You travel right along with them in long uninterrupted shots as they travel behind enemy lines to wend their way to the battalion's location. Plenty of action and dialog with no let down. You are there throughout their ordeal.

This riveting movie, directed by Sam Mendes, brings a WWI story to the big screen as it was relayed to him by his grandfather, Fantastic cinematography. The entire film is shot and edited to make it look like one long, single shot that takes place in real time. STUNNING!!The cast is very good and the music provides a feeling of non-stop tension. For a truly visceral experience, watch this movie on the biggest screen you can.

Not what I expected, I thought this would be a typical war movie with battle scenes, however it is about two men on a journey trying to get a message through the front lines. A. Great movie that held my focus throughout. The 4k version is phenomenal in sound and picture that'll make you want to watch this over and over. Worth the upgrade over the standard blu ray especially if you have Dolby vision and Dolby atmos

I like a few of Sam Mendes’s movies. Not at all a fan of American Beauty, but I love Revolutionary Road. “1917” is as good as Revolutionary Road, although totally different subject matter. It was engaging with the long, continuous takes throughout the story. There were also so many surprises along the way. My whole family was captivated, and my younger son asked me to purchase the Blu-ray. Terrific as part of our home collection.

This movie starts with putting you on the edge of your seat fight from the start to the very end. I recommend this movie to everyone because it has many very real aspects of war and all that happens to the soldiers that have to experience it first hand, but it keeps the moviegoer from all the smells and dirt and shock of the things they actually experience .

1917 is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time! The sets are so realistic, they make you feel like you are right there! The two young lead actors are so talented; they have you on the edge of your seat! The storyline has a simple premise, but the continuous photography of the action sequences keeps your attention riveted on the characters. I saw it at the movie theater, and just had to have a copy for myself. A really great movie!

World War I, as wars go, was no picnic. There were many fierce hand to hand battles due to the then lack of technological wonders that allowed you to kill your enemy from afar. The film revolves around two ordinary soldiers who given a special mission. There are no cutaways to generals giving us a macro view of the battles. Instead the camera remains fixated on the two soldiers as we see the war through their eyes. And it is compelling.

Outstanding picture and sound. Movie itself deserves all the awards it has received. It beat out many good films to win the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Might be one of the best war movies you will ever see. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version is a visual and audio delight. And a rare movie that has received a perfect 100 score for video and sound from a number of professional reviewers. I look forward to watching it again soon.

Very different but well made war movie. Kept me engaged from the start. It is a single angle camera shot that follows the same main character from beginning and you get to see every war zone in detail along the way from actively battling areas to torn post battles zones. Also, the 4K looks great. It is currently streaming on a streaming service but I chose to get the full experience with 4K and Dolby Atmos.

Sam Mendes and his crew crafted 1917 beautifully. Although there might not be that much character depth, the story you're following is still strong enough to warrant your attention for its two-hour runtime. From a technical aspect, it's shot in a way that makes you feel like you're in the trenches with these soldiers. With the hidden cuts here and there, it genuinely feels like it's all one take. Not too many movies can get away with that.

Wow this movie is incredible. The acting is so grounded and realistic, the story is well paced and simple to follow, and the action scenes are a sight to behold. The best thing though is the cinematography. This film from start to finish looks unbelievable. The way everything flows like it's one shot, or the way shadows are used to so brilliantly to further enhance the immersion. And the steelbook is gorgeous as well. Pick this up ASAP

...through an outstanding production team! The manner in which the shots were composed, and the technology used to bring it to us is nothing short of amazing! The format of having seemingly one continuous shot brings the viewer into the film in a way that few other movies have done, and here, in this instance, it is leveraged to ever greater impact! UHD video, and Dolby Atmos audio only serve to enhance the 'you are there' immersion.

Really nice steelbook. I would definitely snag this limited edition steelbook up especially while on sale. Not all Best Buy steelbooks are limited edition. These were going for much more on eBay before Best Buy released more of their stock. Once they are gone I'm sure this one will rocket in price. I also love that the 1917 is debossed. Most steelbooks don't have emboss or deboss. I'm happy with this one.
