Sister Hazel does not, as of yet, have a Greatest Hits CD. It seems they prefer to showcase their best material in the form of live albums. With this one, rather than capture one performance at one location, they recorded throughout their latest tour and put the best recordings from all across the US on here. 20 songs, 20 cities... hence the title "20 Stages" I've been to several Sister Hazel shows and this CD captures the feeling of their show almost verbatim. You really feel like you are there. What really sets this live CD album apart from their others are the liner notes. Included are a few words about the origins of the songs by the songwriters. It really made me appreciate many of them a whole lot more.

Sister Hazel made a big splash with "All For You" back in the mid-90s and had a couple of other radio hits before falling off most people's radar. But they've never stopped performing and releasing new CDs. Their latest is a 2-CD live collection of 20 songs taken from 20 different shows, released at a bargain price. The hits are here, as are some deeper album tracks, all played with high spirits. They pull off the vocal harmonies that are a big part of their sound, and they avoid falling too deeply into the ultra-long jams that are often the downfall of similar bands. Stretch it out, but not past the limit. This probably won't convert any new fans for them, and it's not going to surprise any current fans (aside from the whole "Oh, they're still around?" thing), but it's a solid addition to their catalog.

Great representation of their live shows. Spans 20 years of superb singing and songwriting. Several of their newer songs mixed in with all the classics. Well worth the reduced price for a double CD. 2 hours of real music when there is soooo much trash out there.

Live Live is probably a better album, but this one is great as well.
