2001 is easily in the top 10 best looking 4k transfers that exists right now. It looks like they shot this yesterday because of the incredible source material. I had never actually seen the movie until I picked this up and I was blown away, not to mention how incredible this movie must've seemed 50+ years ago. If you haven't seen this movie or don't have this new 4k transfer, pick it up ASAP. No brainer.

Still a Stunning Adventure, Great Transfer to 4K

There is nothing new that I could say about this film: stunning, hypnotic, frustrating, ground breaking, mesmerizing, slow, beautiful, etc., etc. I have been fascinated by it since I first saw it in the late '60's and have seen it in theaters at least a dozen times. Now with the 4K version I hopefully can finally stop buying home versions. This release is lovely, and the 4K version is incredible to look at. The stars are crisp points of light, the detail on and in the spacecraft is amazing. I really noticed the clarity in some of the spacecraft shots where you can see into the craft or the landing facilities in the space station or on the moon. You can really see the people and readouts. The sound is excellent, full and vibrant. If you're a serious fan of Kubrick and film, I really think this is a grand addition to your collection.

The special effects are very well done, except a few things like walking on the Moon (they did this before we had real footage, so it would have been tough to figure out). I also would have liked the transition from the bone flying to the shuttle be done more seamlessly, editing was a little sloppy there. Even though they say it was remastered, I did not feel like the quality was that great, compared to movies these days, maybe it's a limitation of the original. I now wonder if the 4K version is better. Nevertheless, these are minor complaints, the movie is absolutely awesome and a true classic that everyone should see. Many techniques that were pioneering back then are now a standard tool for many filmmakers, which validates the greatness of this movie.

Even 50 years after this movie was released it still shines and still holds up. This is the mark of great filmmaking. I've owned earlier versions of this movie on VHS, Laser Disc, DVD, and now 4K Blue Ray. The higher resolution of 4K makes this movie really shine. Remember that this film wasn't made with any kind of CGI. It was shot on 70MM film and the FX were helmed Colin Cantwell, Con Pederson, Wally Veevers, and Douglas Trumbull( Silent Running, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek TMP, Brainstorm). 2001 is a classic and will be for a long time to come. It's too bad that we waisted so much time and effort on other things because the film could have been a reality.

    A NEW ODYSSEY...

Finally a beautiful looking transfer of Kubrick’s experimental endeavor into the deepest of the dark - 2001: A Space Odyssey. Especially beautiful in 4K. The film itself is a monolithic tour de force that explores far more than just Space, it explores the inner workings of humanity too. What is achieved technically is so far past it’s time that parts still mesmerize and captivate in the modern day. What looks aged is still a wonder to watch though, with intricacies that surpass the meticulous nature of most filmmakers. The plot and production make up for an experience that is practically impossible to capture in words - plain and simple, this film must be seen - must be experienced!

This is a review of the 4K presentation of the movie. I researched 4K BluRay movies with Dolby Vision and found a UHD to HD BluRay comparison Of 2001 on YouTube. I purchased the movie right after I watched it. The UHD Dolby Vision Picture is sensational on Sony Z9D TV. It is remarkable how much better it actually is compared to its HD predecessor. The 5.1 surround sound is very good as well although with the enhanced picture I wished they would have redone the audio in Dolby ATMOS or DTS 7.1 HD Master audio. I highly recommend this to any 2001 movie fan that has a UHD TV and BluRay player capable of Dolby Vision. You will not be disappointed.

It's a little thing (to me) but it seems crazy not to include a digital code for this title. I have heard that there were complaints about the codes not being for the 4k version. So apparently the solution was to remove the digital codes entirely? Ridiculous. This release is really nice otherwise. I just thought it should be mentioned that there is no code. The listing actually doesn't say there is one on closer inspection, but I'm sure that many people like me have never had a 4k bluray that didn't come with one before

If there is ever one of cinema's greatest masterpieces that deserves to be in 4K Ultra HD, it's Stanley Kubrick's breathtaking 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY. So far ahead of ut's time, a despite the special effects of today's cinema, it still is an impressive cinema masterpieces that mujst be in every at-home collection, even if science fiction isn't one's liking. This puzzling storytelling, impressive sound effects and music, and brilliant animation holds true and stands up to anything filmed today. If Kubrick were still alive, watching his 2001 in Ultra HD would make him sit back and wonder at how his film has stood up to the test of time and technology.

2001 A Space Odyssey is a classic film in my opinion. The 4K print of this film looks and sounds amazing. It allows the viewer to experience the film in more detail than ever before. If you’re a collector of physical media than I recommend this title in the 4K format a must.

BB had this dvd on sale, so I bought it when I purchased a Blu-ray 4K HDR DVD player. Even though I’ve seen this movie probably 10 times, it was a real treat to watch it in the comforts of home, on a 75” QLED tv. It really was as good as being in the movie theater. It’s the full length version of the movie, nothing cut to fit the disc. If you’re a fan of this movie, you won’t be disappointed purchasing it. And, if you see something you don’t recall seeing before, having the dvd allows you to take another look. This is probably one of the few movies I’ll watch over and over again.

I've 2001: A Space Odyssey at least 5 times, several times in theater including a 70mm print and this 4K Ultra HD is as good as it's ever looked. It was less than $20 to own. It has commentary and a remixed and improved soundtrack. It's a real bargain as far as I'm concerned. I highly recommended it for fans of the movie.

2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY IS A CINEMA MASTERPIECE

Although I have had this remarkable film in my DVD library, purchasing it again was worth itr as the second disc of extras is as remarkable of Stanley Kubrick's ground breaking film masterpiece that set the pace for every space flight movie that followed. The finale is still a mystery unexplained, but makes sense until man actually encounters other intelligent life elsewhere. Watching 2001 again took me back to the time I sat awestruck in the theater as a teenager watching this film on the Cinerama screen. Thanks to Stanley Kubrick's accurate depiction of space flight, how right he was!!!!

This is so incredible there are no words to describe it is absolutely perfect You could take individual frames from this movie and it would be art to hang on your wall. The picture quality on this is so good that I just sat there in awe at the absolute clarity it was unbelievable I can't even stress to you enough. If there was one nitpick I would have really liked a Dolby Atmos or DTS X soundtrack but to be honest it is really very good as it is. If you are a fan of this movie you need to own this yesterday I got really nothing else to say just go and buy it

Remember when Best Buy sold movies? I remember when they sold music. Those were the good old days! Nevertheless, given that physical media is now a niche purchase, they did the right thing.

Let's face it. You're gonna buy it. It looks phenomenal. Slip cover looks really nice in red and black, and once the back pulls off you get a great shot of Dave floating through Hal's memory chamber. Whether you like losing shelf pace to a bigger box is up to you. Are the 4 stills of Frank alive, Frank dead and two Dave shots necessary? Not really. The booklet has some pics I don't think I've seen, several I have so, it's kind of cool. But, by the time you've read this far you've already bought it. Go enjoy

I first saw this film in 1968 at a brand new theater in my home town, and it instantly became one of my all-time favorites. It was soooo far ahead of it's time, and introduced me to Kubrick films, ALL of which are classics and worth repeat watching . I wore out my original VHS years ago, purchased when pre-recorded movies were still 100+ dollars! Replaced my older DVD with this after purchasing a 4K player and 4K tv. A terrific purchase if you are a fan. I hope this lasts forever...

This movie changed the game in every way. It is the ultimate template for scifi and space based movies. It took chances and did things previously unseen. Though it wasnt a smash hit, it is appreciated all these years later as one of the best films of all time. Actually, this isnt a film. If that's what you're after, look elsewhere. This, my friend, is an experience and should be treated as such.

50 years after its release 2001 remains a sc-fi classic. The UHD version gives you the sharpest detail yet. You can clearly read all the lettering on the labels and warnings in the Jupiter spacecraft that appears in the latter half of the movie. Colors are superb with a standout example being the red hues that are part of the film showing Astronaut Dave disabling selected parts of HAL’s memory. The inky blacks of the star field against the Jupiter spacecraft are stunning on an OLED tv.
