Great compact/Travel alternative for Surface Pro
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.NOTE: I'm using this for the Surface Pro (not the RT) As is the case with other reviewers - the huge size of the charger that comes with the Surface PRO (48W version) makes it a little cumbersome for light travel. Yes, it's not a big deal in a regular laptop bag, but for daily commuting, I prefer to travel as light as possible. I have a very slim satchel that I purchased for my Surface Pro and there's not a whole lot of space left over after i slide in the tablet. So I decided to buy this one for daily commuting, and leave the bigger 48W version for home use. Long story short, it works - the foldable prongs and single cord make it compact and easier to carry (p.s there's no second cord that goes from the brick to the outlet, so it's slightly shorter - but that's not too bad considering that the smaller power-brick actually enters the socket as opposed to hanging in the air and dragging down the cord) As far as speed of charging - I did notice it took about an hour longer, give or take, than the 48W in sleep mode while charging from 6% (almost dead) to 100%. But for the life me, I couldn't get it to charge to 100% from 6% while the tablet is on. I was about to return it, when I decided to test the 48W one (charging from 6%) and it actually has the same problem on my tablet - gets to about 79% and stalls charging (the icon still shows charging, but it stays at that percentage for hours, no gain). In both cases, I had just turned the tablet on, and switched to desktop-mode, no extra applications running. When I turn the tablet off, in both cases, it continues charging to 100% - therefore the inability to go to 100% while the PC is on, seems to be tied to power-use of the tablet itself. (Also note, if you're already at 100%, and keep the charger on, it still stays that way) Conclusions? It's worth buying as a second, travel-friendly cable for your Surface Pro - you pay half the price of the 48W version and get more portability out of it.

Works great for Pro
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I got the surface pro, I was disappointed in the klunky power supply. Has a separate power cord to go from the power supply to the wall, and I like this one, designed more like the Macbook Pro power supplies I'm used to these last three years. So when I saw the lower power one for the RT, and verified from the MS documentation that it will work with the Pro, I decided to get a couple of them so I could leave chargers at work and at home, and have one for the bag. The charger physically is smaller, and the only length you lose is that extra power cable needed from the brick to the outlet on the larger version - the cable from the brick to the Surface is the same length. And in most cases the lack of that extra foot or so of other cable is offset since this one doesn't have to then drop to the ground since that's where the larger power supply has to sit. With the cable coming straight off the wall at home using this one, I have the same reach since I don't have the power supply getting pulled down by gravity to sit on the floor under the power supply (or being forced to be suspended in mid-air). I wasn't too concerned with it taking longer to charge the surface since I'm generally near an outlet if I need to use one, but my testing has proven that it's not even a concern. It took my Surface Pro just under 2.5 hours with the supplied larger power supply to recharge from the couple percent "won't turn on anymore" point to a full 100% battery. When I tried it again with the RT smaller power supply, it took me the same amount of time. I haven't done any testing yet on the tablet in use while charging, since that may be the scenario where it doesn't charge as fast, but that's not a concern for me anyway since in that situation I'd have power supplied to it regardless of which supply I am using so if it charged faster or slower wouldn't be an issue for me. So for the fact that it charges a sleeping Pro just as fast as the original larger power supply while having a much smaller and easily carried form factor, this is a definite win.

Great Travel Charger for Surface RT and PRO
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am just writing this review to answer a question that I had before purchasing this product. Can this work on my Surface Pro? Despite all of the marketing material to the contrary, the answer is Yes. I made the gamble for 4 reasons. 1. Best Buy did not have the Pro Charger yet. 2. The RT charger was 1/2 the cost of the Pro. 3. The RT charger was smaller and better suited as a Travel charger. 4. My assumption is that the engineers would not have made the charge port the same size and shape if they were not made to work together. Turns out, I was right on all accounts. This will charge your device more slowly, but even while using it, the charger keeps up and continues to charge the device while powering it at the same time. No complaints and I saved money in the process.

Excellent Portable Charger
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed 2 additional chargers for my Surface Pro so I purchased 2 of these adapters. They were not advertised for the Surface Pro, but they work great for it for travel. They charge it, but you do not have the USB port like on the larger adapter. I got 2 adapters for the price of 1 large one.

Good but different
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the cord for the Pro 1. This was different because it didn't have the power adapter so it's shorter and didn't have the USB port, which was on the adapter. Considering the benefits, I don't think it would be too much to at least include a USB port?
