Extended warranties are a necessary evil for major appliances. What I do like about them now is that they are renewable when they are about to expire. Will definitely be doing that when the time comes.

6 months after purchasing my fridge the ice maker broke. Took less than 5 minutes on the phone with Geek Squad protection to have a replacement part sent out to be. Was hassle free.

For major appliances and TVs, highly recommend getting the protection plans.
