Great prequel/sequel/alternate
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great prequel/sequel/alternate movie, a different point of view of what's going on while the 300 Spartans are fighting to hold the Persians Great cinematography, and special effects, it te introduces characters from another point of view It gives you more information about Xcerses, the spartan queen and another Greek heroes character, different from leonidaa The customes and designer show a great Persian empire with a dark but elegant flow and design

Great action flick
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loosely based on history, it's a very entertaining action flick. Eva Green provides a delicious enemy to the movie's Greek hero. The sea battles have plenty of sword swinging with blood eruptions for battle action hungry guys, and the ladies might well find the man flesh on exhibition by the Greeks (particularly the Spartans) to be appealing. Thoroughly enjoyable movie overall if you're not looking for anything 'too deep.' .

Liked it better than the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having seen the original 300 several times it always left something lacking for me. I did like Gerard Butler in the original, but both Sullivan & Eva did well against each other without the need for someone like Gerard. While this one explained a lot of backstory of Xerses, I liked the fact that he really wasn't a huge distraction from this movie. It's not as over-the-top that the first one was, but it's full of solid action.

Fair movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though 300 was a much better movie, I thought 300: Rise of an empire has its entertaining moments.

300 Sparta.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.300 continues to amaze as a nation comes together to defend against the forces of evil. The end is but the beginning as the queen of Sparta becomes the leader Warrior of the Spartan Army dress hills and all. This chick is all and Army on her own. Spartan King should of send her in to hold the hot gates. Pity the King is dead. I still recommend a friend to watch it and see what happens in the third installment. 4-****

An almost worthy follow up to 300
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is always difficult to follow up and meet or surpass expectations when the original work was hailed as a fantastic action experience. Still, there is much to enjoy in this movie. Even Eva Green's character is hilarious while she hams it up on screen as villainous Artemisia. The lead characters are not as strong and otherworldly as King Leonidas and his 300 but the action set pieces are very entertaining.

For a Sequal without Primary actor, A-
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie, as a sequal, cannot stand on it's own. To watch this movie without watching the first 300 movie would cause someone to still be entertained, but would have confusion with the character back story. i.e. the messenger that was kicked into the bottomless pit in the 300 ("This is Sparta" scene). The Non-linear story doesn't help either. For someone that did watch the first movie, the jumping back-and-forth feels like a Tarantino-esk attempt but comes up short. Also, if watching with young teens that are olde enough to watch violent, or with older folks (Parents or "uncle Joe") it can get a little awkward and uncomfortable with a few nude scenes. With that said, the action sequences are amazingly done with great cinematography. When I first realized that these battles scenes would primarily take place at sea, I lost interest. Once the first action sequence took place, I was very impressed. While it may not live up to the level of the first movie, it is an action filled movie that will entertain. I would recomend it to a friend if I knew their taste in movies, but would not make a sweeping recommendation to everyone.

Decent but not as exciting as 300
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cinematography and the special effects are just as good as the first movie but the acting is a bit stiff. Unlike 300 where you believed the reason as to why the Spartans died; this movie is a before, during, and after to all the events that transpired during the first movie and it throws too much all together. To have a subtitle as "Rise of an Empire" and have it fall short was disappointing.

Great Sequel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie does a good job following in the footsteps of Zack Snyders first film. Although he didn't take the directors chair for this one it definitely plays out in the same sense of passion as far as cinematography goes. The film has easily deploys a new plot with it's own twists even though it takes place at the same time as the first 300. Leaving the viewer anticipating what will happen next.

Great For 300 Fans
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those who enjoyed the original "300" expect more of the same with this prequel/sequel. Slow motion effects highlight the carnage and the 6-packs on the Athenian 'peasants'. Eva Green chews the fake scenery and steals the spotlight. If you're going to commit to this, go the 3D route. Nothing like dismembered limbs and spurting blood spewed at the audience to keep you awake and alert.

Adequate follow-up sequel to 300
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This follow-up to the original 300 hyper-stylized movie of the Frank Miller graphic novel overall follows in the same footsteps, but is ultimately held in it's shadow. The action is at the same level as 300 and what you would expect from a sequel. The film's visuals are the highlight of the film and are somewhat stunning. Overall a must watch to fill in some of the background from the 1st film.

Action packed sequel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a huge fan of the first movie, and this was a good follow up but I felt it was hard to live up to the first. I did like the new aspects of taking the battles to the water and felt like it really allowed for some great scenes. The only reason I am giving this a 4 instead of a 5 was how much I really enjoyed the first one and probably over hyped the second in my mind before I saw it.

Excellent Sequel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so happy Zack Snyder finished telling the whole story of the 300 saga. I was disappointed he totally ignored the important role Themistokles played historically in the original 300 movie. 300 Rise of an Empire remedies this oversight in grand fashion. While there are plenty of myths in the two movies they make for interesting storytelling. Frank Miller did a nice job making real history interesting in his graphic novels and Zack Snyder did a great job of relating the interesting myths while giving us some real history. Excellent 3D effects and the ancient naval battles looked awesome.

Good action movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In my opinion, 300: Rise of an Empire is a good action movie. While arguably not as good as its prequel, it is still worth a watch. For those who are historical purists though, this movie deviates from the Battle of Salamis in significant ways so be warned. Extra credit for this package for including both the blu ray and dvd version of this movie.

bring out the action
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie is well detailed. The 3D is real good. The battle scenes have some good 3d effects ,but nothing compares with Avitar. There are some off the screen coming to you 3D but not as much as Avitar. The sound is very good and the dark scenes are in good detail .

Good "sequel" to original 300
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although not technically a sequel (the movie actually takes place before, during and after the original 300), it is very well done. Cinematography is very well done and works well with the 3D effects. In many ways the storyline is more realistic than the original also. If you liked the original you will most likely enjoy this as well. Recommended!

Eva Green makes this film worth watching
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Eva Green's portrayal of the strong and more than capable Greek naval commander Artemisia is worth at least giving this film a chance. She is beginning to break-out, and its just a matter of time before she acts in a top A film. The plot of the story is nothing new, and nothing to get excited over, despite this Artemisia and the directors recognition of her as the star of this story holds the film together. After watching the film, many may agree with my feeling; I would love to see a stand alone Artemisisa movie she is definitely a lead.

Excellent action-drama 3D movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a 3D DVD movie addict. Despite what many people say, there is a discernible difference between 2D and 3D DVD movies. 3D movies are 10 times more enjoyable to watch than 2D movies. This movie, "300: Rise of an Empire" is an incredible 3D movie. The Blu-Ray resolution is awesome. You feel immersed in the real-life action. I wish that there was a 3D sequel to where this movie left off as the ending entices you to immediately want to watch the next battle. This movie was on sale at Best Buy.

If you love battle (or Eva Green) this is for you!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.300: Rise of an Empire is a prequel and a sequel to 300. It tells of the rise of Xerxes and also the huge sea battle that occurred after Lenoidas' last stand. There are much fewer cool monsters than there were in 300, but the battle is more "realistic" in the context of a comic book film. And if you're a fan of Eva Green, this is a must-see.

If you loved the 1st 300, you'll love the 2nd
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off. If you enjoyed the 1st 300 movie, then you'll love this prequel/sequel. The first 30 minutes runs sort of like a prequel before the events of the 1st 300. Then the next 30 minutes of the film run parallel to the events of the 1st 300 film & then the rest of the film is basically a sequel. What's not to love? The 2nd thing is the extras included on the Blu-Ray version. If you love history, then you should watch the extras as historians compare the movie to actual historical events. I myself found this most interesting.
