Boasting flying dragons, tattooed pirates, hoards of samurais, brawling giants, a shape-shifting sorceress, and mystical monks, you might be surprised to hear 47 Ronin is "based on a true story." But keep in mind it's based on a true story the same way Robin Hood is; it's a folk tale with "true" origins grown very vague and thereby ripe for restructuring for epic adventures. Also like Kevin Costner-fronted Robin Hood, 47 Ronin features a shamed noble who seeks out justice and revenge with the help of a band of rebels who hide in the forests. It's a premise that guarantees an entertaining ride, no matter how uncertain the hand of its director.

Great Action, Adventure and Drama Movie! Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of 47 outcast samurai. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors

From a technical standpoint this film is very impressive. Strange and exciting monsters, fantastic magic, and beautiful locations make this a very pretty movie. However, the plot is very slow, especially for an action movie. It feels like they tired to marry an traditional eastern style with an action western style. I think if they had stuck to one or the other it would have been a more cohesive experience.

Keanu Reeves stars in this stylish action packed story about 47 banished samurai who decide to seek revenge for their fallen master. This movie is fun and visually nice to look at. I would describe this as a popcorn movie that has a high replay value, fun to watch with friends. This version comes with Blu-ray, Dvd, and an HD Digital Copy for iTunes as well as a copy for CinemaNow, Vudu, Flixster and others.

This flick is not the best samurai movie but it tells a great story. the fantasy stuff is put in to maybe make it more Hollywood. I didn't think it was needed because I get why the 47 did what they did. but I guess things need to made more colorful for masses. if you take this movie for the message and not the special affects then you will enjoy it. the 3d was done right and the setting was very beautiful.

Initially I didn't want to see this film because I figured it was another cheap knock off. At the extreme insistence of my daughter I watched and was very glad I did. The movie displayed a side of that culture that I wasn't aware of. Gives you a great appreciation of of your own situation. The characters were well thought out and developed and the story was easy to follow along. I will watch this again.

This movie is worth watching but maybe not owning it. Much of this movie is high in effect but some is very lackluster. Lackluster cons in this movie some lighting and some weak action. This is an amazing movie the actors are great everything is great. IMO it just could have been shot better and the action sceens could have been more sensual. really. I give it five stars cus I overlook that they could have gone all the way. But critics are giving this 2-3 stars. Its good enough for me though IMO.

Everything was a 5 star experience!!! the store is in a perfect location with a lot of ample parking. Workers were very helpful-I got lost looking for the NewRealeases but a kind gentlemen not only told me where to find it, but he also brought me and handed the dvd to me. I'm not a big fan of these kinds of movies, I'm more of a drama and reality kinds of movies but I had to sit and watch the movie... & it turned out to be an awesome movie!!! Great experience overall....from the beginning to the very end. Best Buy Alakawa kudos to you!!!

I wasn't going to buy this blu-ray movie because of the subject matter being the 47 Ronin story and how it would be trashed to be made into a fantasy. I decided to take a chance and I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Great cinematography and effects. Just as long as you enjoy it as a strictly fantasy movie loosely based on actual events, you will enjoy it.

This particular release was delayed for months. That being said, its worth the wait. The Steelbook is nice and the picture quality nice. I can't recall a film where Keanu has let me down.

A boy forced by ones belief to believe one way then escapes being taken in by a Lord and growing up with the Lords daughter who feelings grow for him that is not accepted, grown up with having to suppress his feelings while showing respect for the life saving charity that has been given with defending the Lords territory then tragedy strikes the Lord then sold into slavery and later taking revenge for his Lords tragedy with giving up the most important thing is Life & Love with happiness forever.

I have a keen interest in Japanese films and ones with similar story lines. For the most part, this film falls in the second category. I did enjoy Keanu Reeves in the movie, but it was almost like he was an after thought for the part. Still, the graphics are very cool and I enjoyed the mythos elements of the film.

47 Ronin is a mix of historical legend and fantasy. I bought this movie because I was interested in the legend. The emphasis was a little too much on the fantasy for me personally. That said I thought that it was filmed well. This film came with a digital copy to give you more options for watching the movie.

I had put it off for a while. But I finally decided to get it. And I am glad that I did. It was a good story line and a very enjoyable movie. The story line was similar to Mulan (both the animated version and the real people version), yet different.

The movie takes you back in time and tells the story of the 47 Ronin that defend the honor of their fallen master. The movie has a good blend of fight scenes and fantasy mixed in that looks like something that might have been possible (if you believe in a world of magic). Overall a great movie to watch.

The movie doesn't tell the most compelling story but it's got enough to keep you interested and if you don't nitpick the story-line it's entertaining. I took it for what it was and was entertained by the special effects and fight sequences. The ending had to happen the way it did but isn't how you wanted it to finish.

I am the type that buys every movie in 4k. I loved this movie. The package tho came damaged. Chatted with bestbuy and got the replacement in 2days. Returning the other now. But sometimes best buy can be a pain... 3080.....

Bough mostly because of the price, also just recently watched and purchased John Wick so that influenced me to buy. Don't know if this will be any good but for the price having BD, DVD, and digital copy is usually a no brainer. Audio and video quality should be good as expected from blu-ray.

This movie was nearly canceled multiple. Key cast members, like the director, were also changed multiple times during production. After all the turmoil, I didn't expect much. I was wrong. This movie was pretty awesome. If you're Japanese lore, or anime, I would definitely recommend watching it.

The fact that the movie is based on Japanese folk lore made for a very interesting movie. The special effects and fight scenes were very well done. The 3d effects of a magical witch and creatures from classical Japanese mythology added to the movie. Set designs were magnificent in color and grandeur.
