This little gem will clobber some of the big names out there. Clear and accurate image with no hint of harshness or distortion. Like others have said, maybe a little weak in the bass department, but not bad for a 5" woofer. Mine improved after a couple of days of playing, so don't judge too quickly. Out of the box they need some exercise. Very attractive design, and I like the front firing port so they can sit against the wall.
Do some web searching on these and you'll find a cool technical review. This guy not only put 'em on the scope, but he took one apart and was very impressed with what he found. So was I. It appears the money was spent on components rather than marketing.
Great choice for a small room basic stereo or for TV audio, and no question it would make a terrific surround in a 5.1 setup.

I have had these for over a year now hooked up to my 20+ year old Pioneer receiver. My previous speakers finally gave out and I wanted something that was small, nice price, and nice sound. I got small, really great price, and excellent sound from these. I was actually really surprised when I hooked them up and played music from them for the first time. I honestly wasn't expecting much and was really blown away by the quality that these produced. I was kind of hoping that I would have something decent enough to tide me over until I could afford something a little bit better. Over a year now and I am sticking with these guys. They sound great for my CD player and my LPs. I can crank them plenty loud too and they hang right in there. I highly recommend these. They are well built and sound great.

High Quality on a Low Budget

I bought these to replace my rear surround speakers (at the time the Polk T15 and the Insignias were both on sale for the same price, and crazy as it seems, I liked the sound of these better) and liked them so much I ended up replacing my front speakers as well. They are too good for just rear speakers. No, they are not audiophile quality but quality none the less. I've been looking at and auditioning a lot of speakers lately and these are built as well or better than some costing much more. Side by side they might not sound as good as high end speakers but, put four or six of these around your room, add a sub and a center channel, and the sound is truly immersive.
I've got a Micca center channel, an 8" subwoofer and four Insignias as surrounds. I feel the overall sound is more balanced throughout the entire room. For my budget and listening habits (90% TV/Movies, 10% Music) I am very satisfied with this setup!
If I had to prioritize surround sound into a list:
1 budget
2 size
3 configuration (5.1, 7.1 etc)
4 speaker sound (warm, bright)
5 speaker placement
6 matching speakers

I had to replace a couple of nice Advent Speakers I was using as the front Left/Right of a 5.1 TV system in the living room. They had gotten quite old and finally had started to go. I wanted to get some decent sounding speakers cheap. I picked up a pair of these Insignias, not only because of the price, but in the past, Best Buy's house brand always performed better than expected. This was no exception. I was amazed at how good they sounded. For the price, they are a steal.

These speakers sound better than speakers selling for $20, 30, even 40 more than their regular price. At their sale price, $50, it's a crazy good deal.
I am using these in a stereo system (2 speakers) with a turntable and iPhone dock. I have not tested them as part of a surround sound or 2.1 system.
They fill my sound room with beautiful music, and have all the range I need even without a subwoofer. If you like bass-heavy music, you may want to look at other speakers or these with a subwoofer added. I love these speakers! I am very glad I bought them.

No Better Sound for This Price

I love cheap speakers. Remember the KLH line Best Buy carried years ago? I bought plenty when they sold PAIRS for $20. I've owned the little Sony bookshelf B1000s as well, and was happy with them. When I went looking for a couple of bookshelf speakers to mate with a SMSL amp for use with a small turntable setup, lots of inexpensive options were found. I chose these over Dayton, Micca, Monoprice, and others because if I didn't like them, returning to the local Best Buy wouldn't be a problem. Hooked up the IPod and auditioned them over the last few days, and they are keepers! First of all, they are great-looking without the grills (be careful removing them, as I broke a peg off each), something that can't be said about the comparable Polks. Well-produced stuff like Def Leppard's 'Hysteria' sounds lush and room filling. Acoustic music is fine, too. The Pretty Reckless' 'Going to H*ll' was slightly brittle, less impressive, which is probably due to recording technique. Adding a sub or eq should fix that. For $50 I'm thrilled. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed. I may order another set for the garage. Get them before they're gone!

I chose these speakers after comparative listening to all other shelf speaker options in my Best Buy Store. I was surprised all the full warm sound coming from these inexpensive speakers. They sounded better than most of the other brands that were twice the cost. Once getting them home I connected them to my Denon reciever and the sound is wonderful. It is a full sound with plenty rich tone. I can now save for an ultimate high end set up and still enjoy rich quality sound now.

Great sound quality that rivals much more expensive speakers. I bought these at the same time as a pair of Polks and the Polks just went back to the store. What does that tell you? You owe it to yourself to give these a listen. They won't knock you out of your seat with the low notes because that's what a subwoofer is for. However, they still produce a clean and tight bass response that really rocks. The vocals and high percussion notes are well balanced, meaning that you'll hear a lot of detail with these. Pair them up with an active subwoofer and you've got a great desktop setup or a good start for a home theater. Highly recommended!

Unbeatable speakers for the price

I picked up two pairs of these speakers when they were on sale for $29.99. On top of that, I ordered open box and used a $10 off coupon to get them for $13 per pair. I use three of them as fronts and center along with a sub in a modest bedroom setup (1800 cubic feet) and they're running off a Denon S510BT. The sound is surprisingly good for sub-$100 speakers and a steal if you can find them on sale. The bass rolls off a little high so a sub is probably a must. I also have a pair of Pioneer BS-22s which I still slightly prefer just for the extended low end. If you're tight on cash, these can't be matched for sale price.

I was surprised these were not out to demo with other bookshelf speakers. Just looking for something listenable to match with some old stereo equipment and cd player. Reviews seemed good plus had 2 -way crossover, and I didn't expect bass to be killer, so I just took a chance. I was blown away by sound quality with only $49 spent on pair. If sound was bad, no low price would have mattered, but for now they're best $50 I've spent on audio equipment.

If you thought the NS-B2111's sound good, you're gonna love these. To my ears, these are much more open without being grainy or harsh, or opposite of that and being veiled or cupped. Mid range is smooth without the lower end bloat the NS-B2111's exhibited.. To my surprise, they also have a "real" crossover in them mounted to the binding post wire connectors. Nicely done Insignia. At first listen, they sound constrained and compressed. After running them just a couple of hours with Pandora and my Playstation 3, they opened up quite nicely. Treble became more apparent. Mid range sounded less constrained and smoothed out nicely with some surprising low end shining through from time to time. I was not looking for anything spectacular with these, but I find myself quite surprised. I think you will too. I can't think of a better pair of speakers for the low price of $59.00.

The magnets on these are massive. These have a real crossover, unlike most speakers in this price range. The quality is there. WAY WAY WAY better then I was expecting these to sound.

Nobody will mistake these for high-end audio equipment, but they aren't bad for the price at all. Try to get them when on sale, and they make great rear speakers in a 5.1 setup.

Excellent Budget Speaker

This is a great speaker for anyone who wants pleasing sound on a budget. I picked up a pair for $59 in the store and I'm pleasantly surprised. These speakers have a very warm sound with surprising accuracy. Sure...they aren't true audiophile grade, but they sound nice and that is what matters.
Treble and midrange are very good without being too bright. Bass is respectable given that it's only a 5 1/4" woofer.
For this price, you can't go wrong. I recommend these for surround speakers, near field monitors, bedroom or office speakers. Add a subwoofer and they really sound sweet! They would even serve as mains in a small home theater set up so long as you have a sub. I have these in a workshop with a 10" powered sub and the sound is very good!
I have high-dollar speakers too, but most of us can't afford to have expensive stuff in every room, office, etc. It's nice to have the option of buying budget equipment that still sounds very pleasing.
I rated them 4 stars because I'm comparing them to true audiophile speakers, and they can't possibly compete with that. But on a budget curve, they are 5 star all the way.

Got these speakers when they were on sale and had a student discount so I didnt have high expectations. However, when paired up with a solid amp, they sound nice and loud. Needed something for my ps4 and these definitely met my expectations and more.
