    Best action score in years

Oscar-nominated composer Marco Beltrami had some very big shoes to fill when taking over the composing duties for 2007's Live Free or Die Hard - the late Michael Kamen (who had written the scores for the first three films, and had sadly passed in 2003) had created a distinct style and sound for the Die Hard world that had gained a massive number of fans in the film music community. However, Beltrami proved himself to be up to the challenge, by creating an exciting rollercoaster of an action score. It was certainly more aggressive than any of Kamen's efforts, but Beltrami managed to weave in Kamen's themes and styles throughout his score, making it fit perfectly. So when he was attached to return for the 5th Die Hard film, A Good Day to Die Hard, I could not have been more excited. And imagine what a thrill it was to receive the CD, and not only have your expectations met, but surpassed. A Good Day to Die Hard is easily one of the best action scores in years, which sadly isn't saying much. In a day where all film scores have become typically generic and unmemorable, especially action scores, Beltrami created something really special, with truly outstanding action cues that get your heart pounding (they make for great driving music!), and again, all while taking the sound and themes that Michael Kamen created years before and making it bigger and bolder. This is an outstanding action score, and should be sought out by all film music fans!
