    A Quiet Movie

A Quiet Place is a film of great sonic interest, even if that doesn't always translate into great sonic intensity. But it does, as it needs. The film opens with little footsteps and the trace sound of a crayon scribbling on the floor. Characters communicate in sign language, and the most insignificant, hushed sound can be vital to their survival, or a misstep that could cost them dearly. Silence is necessary through much of the film, and gentle support nuance can become a sonic focal point, which the Atmos track delivers with impressive placement and clarity, even at whisper-quiet levels. The track can get so quiet, at times, that ambient sound in the home theater -- like a running air conditioner -- can get in the way of any given scene's silent intensity. Modest winds blow about, light rustling leaves define the countryside, and floating papers blow around abandoned towns. These can be essential, mood- and environment-shaping sounds, elevated well beyond traditional sound roles in other films, but not amplified. Six minutes in and music does enter the track: it's fluid, light, and well spaced. On the other hand, particularly later on in the movie, music can be heart-pounding and intense, enveloping a large portion of the listening area.

If you love suspense/thriller movies, you'll love this one. This movie requires you to be quiet and pay attention or you will miss out on what is happening. I was beginning to wonder in the beginning if anyone would ever talk in this movie. I think this movie gives you a good perspective of what it is like to be completely and solely responsible for the lives of those you love. It was interesting to see how John Krasinski, the father adjusted to his protector role without a second thought to the worry and fear that he was feeling in his own being at the time. It shows you just how much your loved ones depend on you and where sometimes you don't understand how deeply important that is to their survival.

This movie reminds of Jaws mixed with Signs (Mel Gibson). This is not a fun movie per say it’s about loss, love, sacrifice and family. It is gripping and I don’t think you could fully relate to it unless you are a parent. That’s just my opinion. There are some things I do not like about the film but I will not spoil it for anyone, it is still a must watch. There is some original stuff in this film which you have to appreciate cause now in the world we live in its much easier to refresh something old rather to come up with something original. Don’t get me wrong it’s not all original but some of it is and that seems to be the best we can hope for these days.

This movie has very little audio. Despite this fact i still thoroughly enjoyed this one. For a film to garner my interest without speaking really, you know it must be good. I really wish they would of figured out the creatures weakness. That is before the Father sacrificed himself. This doesn't detract from the film though. I also wish they would of shown them taking out the other two. This was the only thing that made me not rate it excellent. Instead they just end it with them seen coming toward the home. The Mother cocks a shotgun and BOOM credits role. I mean you go on knowing what happens but still.

this is not only one of the best films of 2018, but it had blew my mind in ways to show with less dialog and showing this family has to adapt on not making a single sound and express with sign language to communicate as well as surviving throughout the film. for those who are into Thriller as well as drama with each element in between this is worth your time. as for this steelbook this has a awesome design with the claws of the monster showing the marks, this had a lot of time work and effort to be put in with in this incredible steelbook cover.

I gave this a 4-star rating but would probably push it to a 3.5/3.75 if you could do incremental ratings. Not a bad flick but it had some plot flaws to me which were a bit difficult to overcome the "suspension of belief" mode necessary for movies. However, I thought the acting was good and that it was cast well and it was shot well too... I think they should have tied this one on to the Cloverfield franchise.

A Quiet Place supposedly started out as the third Cloverfield movie but the filmmakers decided to take it in a different direction. I think that it probably would have been a much more tense experience if it did end up that way but in this version it is a story about family and forgiveness. The acting and writing are excellent and at a tight 90 minute run-time it feels like a long episode of the Twilight Zone.

First of all, the first half hour or more has NO talking. This is because if you make noise, a fierce creature will kill you. You'd think this would be boring, but it isn't. The suspense is overwhelming. The main actor was a regular on "The Office" comedy series, but in this film, he is dramatic and good at it. The creatures look vicious, and when the sound does come in, its shocking and scares you. It was a true scary movie.

A tight, tense, intimate-scale creepshow with expert choice and use of sound, the scares only sometimes undercut by the CGI monsters, but thankfully a more Jaws-like "less is more" approach to showing them is applied. Many kudos to John Krasinski for directing this nice little horror surprise. And Michael Bay should thank him too - this is the best thing with his name on it to come out in a long time.

This is a very good horror film that focuses on suspense and building of tension over gore. Well-paced and had me at the edge of my seat the whole film. Excellent minimal use of sound. One of my favorites of the year. I actually purchased this as a Christmas gift, but I already own it. Well worth the $9.99 sale price and stands up to repeated viewings.

John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place" is for the most part an effective film to add in the horror/thriller genre as it draws similarities to the likes of other films such as "The Witch" & "The Badabook" relying not only on scares but on character development and storytelling as well as creating an effective atmosphere. "A Quiet Place" overall is a solid film that even most casual viewers will enjoy.

Be very, very quiet, there are sound monsters about! A Quiet Place follows a family trying to survive in a world decimated by creatures that hunt by sound. It's an intense and exhilarating film that, while not subversive or transgressive in any compelling manner, is a competent and enjoyable horror film that will please casual and hardcore film fans alike.

Greatly enjoyed watching A Quiet Place in AMC theater. The blu-ray provides picture quality which nearly matches the theatrical presentation. The Steelbook is well designed. Three embossed claw marks across Evelyn’s face make this red tinted case look regal. I would have given this 5 stars if there was a UHD edition. However, the included code can be redeemed for an iTunes 4K digital copy

Pros: Does not measure up to the hype but it is great to watch as much as it was to watch Stranger Things, it’s on that similar vibe. Dolby Vision that looks impressive on my calibrated OLED Dolby Atmos shined. Digital Copy. Slipcover. Cons: Overrated reputation.

I thought this movie was a joy to watch. It encourages the viewers to be quiet and really get sucked into the story of this family. My only negative is that there are a few too many jump scare moments that don't feel as genuine as the actual tension happening throughout. I highly recommend this movie.

I very seldom watch this type of movie. I only watched it at the suggestion of my wife and daughter. We watched it together, and even though I would not classify it as one of my favorites, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this type of movie. It is extremely intense.

The fact that there is such a lack of dialogue fir the first half hour or more of the movie might make it a little slow for some. But overall the movie works. If you were a fan of Mel Gibson's 2002 film "Signs" you'll probably like this movie, because it has that same slow paced feel to it, with a lot of the quirkiness.

It was a pretty good movie. It seemed pretty intense at some parts and I never felt bored. I likely wouldn’t watch it again. It was short and seemed to end somewhat abruptly. I would assume there would be a sequel that would hopefully be better than this one. If not, it would kind of make this movie a disappointment.

A Quiet Place is a great horror movie. It's not you're typical jump scares and ghost horror movie. This movie brings unique monsters that are blind, hungry, and navigate only through sound. And the cast is just amazing. They really make you feel their terrifying world they experience.

I was a little worried with this being mostly a silent movie, but this movie really impressed me. It's more of a thriller movie rather than a horror movie. Ten minutes into the movie and I got pulled in and found myself trying to be really quiet also. Definitely pick this movie up and turn out the lights.
