Purchased this as a gift and was not disappointed. We really enjoyed the original release in theaters years ago and the DVD deluxe edition has reminded us of just how much we enjoyed the film. Outstanding commentary and extras included with this version.

One of the best visual masterpieces that exemplify the perfect combination of literary and cinematic poetry. On Blu-Ray in 1080hp is a can't miss.

Just a good feel good movie. I am not real fond of Brad Pitt as a great actor. But did a good job and I enjoyed the movie and its part of my collection. A feel good movie. A thumb up from me.

Good story, though not filmed where the tale actually took place. Actors did a good job of portraying the characters.

Best Coming-of-age Movie I've ever seen

A River Runs Through It is one of the best coming-of-age/ family movies I've ever seen. Starring Craig Sheffer (which it's unfortunate he never got it big), Brad Pitt, and Tom Skerritt, this movie will touch you and move you in such a way you won't believe it. Based off the autobiographical book by Norman MacLean, it follows the story of Norman, played by Sheffer, and reflects on his life as a youth at his home in Montana, where he would connect with his very disconnected family through fly-fishing at the river. Brad Pitt gives one of his best performances as Norman's younger brother, Paul, who made it big as a reporter, but with great power comes great responsibility, as he begins to lead a life of underground gambling and excessive drinking and more illegal acts. Their father, played by Skerritt, is the presbyterian priest at their church and he is very stern, but very heartfelt at the same time. The score for this movie from Mark Isham is one of the best I've heard, I love the title score and the score at the end of the film, because it fits the mood perfectly. I recommend this movie to everyone, even if you're the type for huge action flicks, lots of violence, or a total sappy chick flick. If this movie doesn't open up your emotions and move you in anyway, then the blame is on me.
