I have a confession to make: for the longest time, I considered Armin's "newer" work (2010 and beyond) to be drastically inferior and avoided it like the plague. Without being too descriptive, I definitely fell into the "oldschool only" crowd. But of course, my curiosity piqued overtime as I slowly dipped my feet into the world of newer Trance and found myself pleasantly surprised with what I had been missing out on. To be fair, there are quite a few duds in this album that leave me waiting for the next track to come on. That isn't a deal breaker, since Armin's year mixes are designed to essentially shoehorn as many Trance tracks into a two hour mix from the respective year as humanly possible. I I did not like this album on my first and second try. It took quite a few listens for the music to really settle in, but I'm very glad that I gave the album another shot to satisfy my musical cravings. If you happen to be in a position like mines (on the fence regarding the new era of Trance music), I advise you to give it some time before making a decision. It really does take some getting used to before you can truly settle in and enjoy it.

AVB amped up the 2016 yearly composition this go around! Plenty of recognizable trademark tracks with seamless transitions, a perfect way to drive into the new year 2017!
