i lost a little bit of interest in this new LP album after i heard "the catalyst" single. i didn't think that track was anything special and felt it was boring. when i heard "wretches and kings" my hopes raised exponentially. i really wanted the album to have a similar sound and song structure to W&K. unfortunately, this album did not live up to my hopes. [1] if you're the fan that loves Hybrid Theory and Meteora but disliked MtM, stay away from this album. [2] if you disliked the catalyst single, stay away from this album. [3] if you liked MtM and the catalyst single, buy this album i listened to this album with an open mind because after MtM, i knew this band was going in a direction not in my personal favor. i listened to this album multiple times and alloted some time for it to grow on me. it never did, and here is why: the major reason is that it is a 15 track album, and there are only 9 ACTUAL songs. the other 6 are just ambient noise, samples, and instrumentals that should not be on the album. for example, the first two tracks, "the requiem" and "the radiance" could be combined into one intro [or removed altogether]. why the heck put two nonsense tracks right after one another to start off the album? wretches and kings is the only song on the album i like start to finish. unfortunately, the other 8 actual songs are kind of boring. they really just consist of repetitive beats. overall, this album didnt click with me. i respect linkin park as musicians and i hope they continue to have a sucessful career.

I've been an avid follower of Linking Park for many years. There's definitely been a transition from their old music like on their Meteora cd or hybrid theory. We sensed the change with minutes to midnight but you still could sense the underlying sense it was LP. With thousand Suns it's completely different which isn't necessarily a bad thing. This is one band that has the skill and talent to perform many different types of music and this is no exception. I enjoy it for the sense that they continue to evolve and aren't just a stereotype. Listen for yourself but be prepared for something different.

Not the best, but it has a meaning behind it

I will say this: if you want Hybrid Theory style Linkin Park, this is not it. You can't say it is bad, because A Thousand Suns is a concept album, and an experiment by LP. If you listen carefully to the lyrics and quotes, it is clear that this album deals with the effects of nuclear warfare, a message that most would find enlightening in today's society. In short, A Thousand Suns is not what people would normally expect out of Linkin Park, but it has a deep meaning behind it. So, before you listen to the reviews for A Thousand Suns about what they want it to be, keep in mind what the artists meant for it to be.

MUST Listen to AT LEAST Twice

So I've followed LP since the early days and when I heard Minutes To Midnight (their last album) I was sort of indifferent until it grew on me. Note: this is not the Linkin Park from Hybrid Theory or Meteora. They even said that they are trying to change their sound rather than come out using the same old tricks for every album. Honestly when I listened to A Thousand suns for the first time all the way through I was pretty disappointed. BUT, then I forced myself to listen to it all the way through once or twice more before really deciding if i hated it. It's like a funny TV show that you don't find funny at first, but the more you see it the funnier it is kinda thing. This CD has without a doubt grown on me and I notice different things in the songs almost every time I listen to it, which says something. Bottom line, this will not please many people if they are not open-minded. My opinion: Amazing CD, with some of the most original sounds I've heard in years. Favorite Tracks: When They Come for Me, Wretches & Kings (listen to them LOUD)

You'll love it or hate it...

There is no inbetween with this album, you'll either love it or hate it. Although I do agree there are a lot of "filler" pieces that really don't need to be there. I love it... but it definitely is different than their norm, but they are known for thinking outside the box as it were... They have re-invented themselves and I think there are some really good songs on this album once you get past the "fillers".

Everyone seems to automatically diss this album because of the sudden flip of styles. I praise Linkin Park for going out and being inventive. Linkin Park is one of the best bands out there when it comes to creativity and lyrical depth. Their words remind you of Kurt Cobain or Eddie Vedder when you really pay attention and listen to just how deep and moving they are. Yes I do wish they would bring back some of their old flare, but in perfect honesty, this album is one of the most creative out there recently. The sound in this album still digs into you if you don't automatically toss it because you don't like it the first time you hear it. I only thought it was decent my first listen through, and now I find myself really enjoying it. Give this album a try and listen to it more than once, you won't be disappointed!

    what the........

I just don't get it. I love Linkin park for all the great music they have given us, but this horrible list of tracks just makes me want to find a way to get my money back. Hybrid theory was amazing, Meteroa was even better, Reanimation and the Jay-Z mash up were different, and fun, and as much as people dissed Minutes to Midnight for traveling off the beaten path, I thought it had a few really strong tracks. But this garbage they are throwing out has flown off the map and just befuddles me. Half of the tracks are robot sounds and the only half way listenable song is The Catalyst. I will more than likely buy their next album just for the love of the band, but I sure do hope it sounds 180 degrees different than this album. sorry for my long winded rant, just very dissapointed.

    Surprisingly Good Album

I am not a huge Linkin Park fan so I was not disappointed after listening for the first time, unlike the die hard Park fans. Yes - I would agree that A Thousand Suns is an "artstic leap" from previous Link Park Cds. However, that is why I enjoy this album so much. I appreciate artists who are constantly re-inventing their sound and not concerned about breaking the mold and taking a chance with something new. As a die hard Nine Inch Nails fan, certain songs have a Year Zero influence - which is another great unknown album. Overall this CD was worth every dollar spent because I did not expect another "hard and heavy" Linkin Park CD.

Linkin Park Changes It Up Again

I know a lot of people were surprised by how different Minutes to Midnight sounded from LP's prior albums, but this is even more different. It's a good album, but as a LP fan, I have to say that there are some filler tracks on here. The album could be stronger if the fillers were replaced by tracks that are as strong as "Waiting for the End" and "The Catalyst". But overall, it's a good album.

This cd is way different then Linkin Park's old stuff. I own all of their ablums and im glad they mixed it up a little to what their fans are used to for this album. It took me awhile to get used to this album but after listening to it about 4 times i love it. Its so unique and radiant i really enjoy listening to "Robot Boy", "Burning in the Skies" and "Wretches and Kings." I completely disagree with most of the reviews and i enjoy it alot.

If you're thinking this cd is going back to the first cd you are way off..... Its electronic soft songs. I like the softer stuff like in the end but this is horrible. I would recommend previewing the songs before buying. I have every linkin park cd and I may not get another after this!!

A nice blend of Minutes to Midnight and Hybrid Theory.. Make sure to listen through to the very end... The last track on the album is probably one of the, if not the, best song that Linkin Park has ever put on an album.

I am not a person who writes reviews but in this case I have made an exception to save people from wasting their money. I have been a Linkin Park fan for 10 years but this new CD is garbage. I like many others tried to give the band the benefit of the doubt and listen to the CD with an open mind. I just couldn't get into it. It has so many track of just synthesizers and annoying sounds. It is such a disappointment because I was really excited that my favorite band was putting out a new CD. Please, please, don't waste your money. Go buy a 2007-2008 calendar, it is a better value. Worst CD I've ever bought

I too have bought every Linkin Park CD before this one and had huge expectations. I was a left with a feeling much like the principal responding to Billy Madisons answer in the academic decatholon: "Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." Sorry Linkin Park, but you blew this one.....

This was by far the worst cd I have ever purchased. I have never considered returning a cd until now (and if I could I would). There are 15 or so tracks, but 4-5 actual songs. The rest of the cd is filled with sounds lasting anywhere from 10-30 seconds. After the first two tracks I was a little concerned as they were over before I reached the end of the Best Buy parking lot and it was downhill from there. If anyone really likes the other Linkin Park albums do not buy this one as it does not even come close to sounding like any of them.

I've been a fan of Linkin Park since Hybrid Theory, and since then..they have never let me down. Every single album has been amazing and has had a lot of meaning behind them. A Thousand Suns is very meaningful and has a mix of Hybrid Theory and MTM. I absolutley love it. Don't be afraid of change people! Yeah, they sound different...but they are still amazing. Best band in the world, in my opinion. :) haha A Thousan Suns is an album you definitely wan't to check out.

    Extremely Disappointed

I love Linkin Park. I don't have all of their albums, but I have heard alot of their music and love most of it. I was extremely excited to hear that they had a new album coming out and decided to buy it just because Linkin Park has never disappointed me in the past. This album though is not the Linkin Park that i know and have come to love. I'm not even sure how they classified it as metal/rock. It's basically a genre in and of itself and not a genre that is worth listening to. Very disappointed.

ok. this was a total loss. lots of minute or less tracks. i think i sorta like 3 songs on the whole thing. same with minutes to midnight. it's like they did a total 180 from their first 2 cd's. this one is a lot softer and sounds more like christian rock to me. there is even a track of some dude preaching to you. really? the song blackout (track 9) reminds me of what their first cd's were like. but the rest....it just sucks. sorry people but i won't be buying any more LP cd's.

I really liked the theme for this CD. With the different recordings of famous people such as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Mario Savio, and Martin Luther King Jr. it really helps the theme, which is nuclear war and war in general, come out.
