Great movie. The book is even better, which is generally the case. But I really enjoy the film.

Although the reviews I had read about this movie were not very good, I decided to watch it because of the actors and story line. I was not disappointed. This movie has beautiful scenery, great dialog and a heartwarming story. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte make great "old buddies" in some interesting and often funny situations while they attempt to hike the Appalachian trail. It probably appeals more to older people like myself, but I loved this movie.

I read the book long ago and loved it. The book is colorful and a very humorous view of hiking the trail by a couple of novices. The movie comes close, with some directorial license. I enjoyed the movie, but liked the book better. That is not to say that this is not a good flick, just a little different tweak on the book. I liked them both. My advice..read the book first.. you will enjoy the movie better for it

Gotta Love A Walk in the Woods

Redford and Nolte made a funny sweet and intersting pair of hikers trying to complete the Appalachian Trail as "senior citizens." The movie focuses on the reunion of friends from the good old days and is filled with the wisdom that comes with time and experience. Lots of laughter, too, between old friends who rekindle their relationship after more than 30 years.

Ok, two old dudes go for a walk in the woods..............if this sounds like the setup to a bad joke, be prepared for something WAY better! This picture has grace, style, humor and lots of heart, thanks in no small part to Robert Redford and Nick Nolte; their acting skills and likability make this a must see picture! Set along the majestic Appalachian Trail, this film has its OWN special effects in the scenery, we're along for a great time, and in good company with two of filmdom's top men. Highly recommended, and a nice break from blockbuster summer fare at the theater, sit back and ENJOY!

This is a very good movie. The pairing of Redford and Nolte makes for a very entertaining romp through the hills of the Appalachian Trail. My favorite line from this film was "books are TV for smart people". See this movie. It has a well cast story and besides that, you'll feel better about yourself at the end...

deciding to hike the Appalachian trail late in life for the first time is no small thing, and redford is quite funny. he trawls his contacts for a partner, and nolte pops up for comical reasons later-the way they repel bears at night is plausible and possibly a lifesaver--good film

This is based on the Bill Bryson book of the same name, wherein Bill walks a portion of the Appalachian Trail with his friend Katz, played here by Nick Nolte in one hilarious role! This isn't an action movie, but one about looking at life and back on life. Very good movie!

This is a surprize movie to me! Maybe cause I am not as young as I use too be but I found it really funny and really worth a look especially for middle aged men and older! May not be that funny or interesting for children or the young ones but I think it is worth the look!

Four stars for the movie, but zero for the Blu Ray. This was the only Blu Ray disc that would not play in my player. Reading reviews on line, this was a common problem with this movie. So beware. To be sure just get the regular DVD, as I eventually did.

The DVD arrived in perfect shape and Best Buy shipping was fast. As far as the movie goes...I'd hoped there would be a little more to it. I saw most of the movie through previews. As far as recommending it to a friend, I'd say "Here, take mine!"

Redford and Nolte make a very unlikely comedic duo, with humor, witty oneliners, and some down to earth practical views on life we ALL must face. Aging and coming to terms with the meaning of how we have lived.

Could not have paired two other actors to play these characters in the movie. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte are extreme opposites in this funny film about getting old and what you want to accomplish at this late stage in ones life.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I have a great nephew who hiked this trail and did see some of the high spots that he was on. The characters in the movie were very entertaining. I will probably watch this movie again.

    Didn't exactly meet my expectations

I didn't read the book, so my expectations were not based on that. But, for a number of years, I've dreamed of hiking this trail myself. It didn't live up to what I was expecting for the actual hiking portion - magnificent scenery (there was some, just not enough for me) as well as some of the unexpected things I could imagine happening on a 2000+ mile hike through the wilderness, by a couple of old dudes with little to no experience at that sort of thing. I guess I was expecting more of a 'Hangover' type movie, with the Appalachian Trail as the backdrop. All in all, not a bad movie, just fell a little short of my expectations.

One of the best movies I have ever seen geared toward older people but younger people can enjoy it too. I read some of the other comments about the disc not working and I had the same trouble. I had to exchange the Blueray disc 3 times before I got a good one that worked. Thank you Best Buy for exchanging my discs until I got one that worked. Best Buy and the movie get 5 stars in my book.

Having already hiked the Appalachian Trail, it was the beauty of the landscape trail in the movie that interests me. The actors did a fair job, some may find it boring especially if you are not into hiking.
