Nothing but outstanding props for this computer. Similar computers cost over $400 more. Some bloatware but very easy to remove.

The first thing you should do when you buy a new computer is to remove all bloatware and install all OS and driver updates. The issues with lag and touchscreen aforementioned in other reviews shouldn't really occur if you have done this.
Interestingly, I had reviewed this product about a year ago when I first purchased it, but all the reviews have been removed...
This thing is lightning quick! No lag whatsoever! I needed a computer to run Sonar Cakewalk, a digital audio interface for music production. This thing came with an i7, 8 gb of ram, and a 512gb SSD drive, which meant (and still means) one thing: speed. The thing just flies. On my previous PC, audio encoding would take sometimes over 5-10 minutes, but this thing can compress and encode in under a minute. Its awesome.
As for the screen, I do have to admit, if you are using this in a bright room, the screen will be a bit dim. But for the price and what you get at this price, its more of something I can easily live with. The screen is still HD and so I have no qualms. I've actually used this in tent mode as a second screen to watch NFL games on Sundays. The form factor of this PC is excellent for that.
The touchscreen is excellent, and have had no issues with it at all. I don't really use this as a full on tablet (aka folded all the way back to flat to use like an iPad), due to the computer's large size. But, using this in tent mode or folding the screen back so that the keyboard becomes the base you can set on your lap while sitting is more than an effective way to still get the benefit of using the touchscreen on this device. That being said, I really only find myself browsing the internet or playing solitaire on the touchscreen. For everything else I just use the normal laptop mode.
This thing also comes with a few USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB type-c port (future-proof!) which is pretty awesome. Most computers now seem to be removing excess ports, which can have some drawbacks. This thing has lots of connectivity.
Finally, it has a backlit keyboard. Just hold the 'FN' button and then tap F10 3-5 times to increase the backlit brightness. Do the same but press the F9 key to decrease the backlit brightness. It's a nice feature, kind of wish there were a way to keep the backlit keyboard on at all times- it turns off after about a minute without typing, but turns back on once you start typing again, but if you are waking up or starting up your computer, you will need to follow the steps to turn the backlight on again.
All in all, a great computer at this price point.

Acer Aspire R14

I have a Acer Aspire R14 with core i7, 8GB memory, and 512 GB SSD. The laptop looks nice and clean and the hinges so far appear fairly robust. Touchscreen, sound, camera, etc on this computer also all work fine. The tablet mode of this computer is a bit clunky, so I don't use it much. Startup time for this laptop is amazing, only a few seconds. But once started, the computer becomes slow and laggy, often adding a few seconds lag between clicks or page scrolls, as if the computer memory was bogged down. This laggy behavior occurs even with only 1-2 programs open and regardless what program I'm using (web browser, powerpoint, Matlab, etc), making the user experience very frustrating, particularly since I don't have this problem with any of my much older/cheaper laptops. Additionally, about 2 months after purchase, I wasn't able to turn my laptop back on after the laptop shut down due to low battery. After much troubleshooting, I found out the battery had to be manually reset via a tiny reset button to restart the laptop.

After about three months, the touchscreen was no longer reliable. Sometimes it freezes and doesn't work at all, sometimes the mouse cursor moves around by itself and ghosts in and out, sometimes it starts moving open programs to different parts of the screen and shrinking and expanding them without the computer being touched at all. This rendered the computer unusable. The only way I've found to fix this issue is to disable the touchscreen driver. This means the computer is no longer a touchscreen computer. Also, if the computer is put into sleep mode, it often is frozen when woke up and a hard start of the computer is required. When I purchase the computer, the reviews were good, this has definitely changes since then. I expected more out of Acer as my prior non-touchscreen computer worked great for 5 years before someone stole it. Acer really blew it on this one, and next time I'll consider a different manufacturer.
