Customers commend the Chromebook Spin 714's stylus, battery life, screen size, and lightweight design, frequently praising its portability and responsiveness. Positive feedback also highlights the ample SSD storage. However, some users express dissatisfaction with the speaker quality, noting that the sound could be improved. The overall impression suggests a device with many strengths, balanced by one notable area for potential enhancement.

Great laptop for daily driver and then some. Love the touchscreen, included stylus and secure/always up to date Chrome system! Can use for entertainment and some light work like Adobe lightroom cataloging. Waited for sale and worth it!

Nice looking machine but it has MAJOR troubles

Looks really pretty, but the guts are so bad that Google can't even update the machine. It's stuck at a months old version of the OS and isn't safe to use on the internet.
I guess there's a reason these are on sale so often. If it could be used entirely off-line like the old Windows laptops, that would be fine. But a Chromebook is an ONLINE ONLY machine and it's stuck at an OLD version of the OS. BIG bummer, and even the manufacturer has no idea how long or IF they can fix it.

Almost great.. Touchpad Issues

This laptop has 2 main issues that acer seems to have ignored.
First is the speaker pop which is whatever, it doesnt bother me because I mainly do work with my headphones on or music playing so no big deal.
The second issue is the touchpad, upon waking from sleep it is very finicky / jump / jittery / laggy where it will move the cursor in a stair step like fashion. There are also moments where you have to tap 2-3 times to get a click to register. It seems to "warm" up after a minute or so and will work fine. But this is beyond annoying.
I decided to return this laptop in hopes I just got a lemon. So I bought another, SAME issue.
I would not recommend this laptop. Which is a shame as I really liked the build quality & the screen & if not for the trackpad issue it would be 4-5 stars. The most annoying part is instead of fixing the touchpad it seems like Acer just decided to include a free mouse with my order. The mouse works fine upon waking even when the trackpad is acting finicky. SO I believe that instead of fixing the issue as they should have they gave me a lousy mouse.
Not satisfied and unfortunately will probably end up returning my second laptop.

Please avoid, too many quality control issues

Beast of a machine (as of this writing) but some quality control issues stop it from being great.
-random speaker "pops" regardless of whether the audio/mic/etc. is muted, extremely annoying, replaced the 714 I purchased and unfortunately problem persists in replacement device.
-screen appears poorly glued (is that possible?) and is rather sharp around the bezels where the glass and bezel don't quite line up properly.
-frame, especially around speakers, has considerable flex, makes device feel flimsy and cheap when manipulating/transforming from laptop to tablet mode.
-stylus will sometimes fail to register, the device won't register taps or writing and it forces me to close out the app (Google photos is one example) and retart.
-clackity, flimsy track pad and cheap feeling (in my opinion) keyboard, but those are strictly preferences, not deal breaking performance issues
In closing, take my advice, if you dont absolutely need the novelty of a 2-in-1 device purchase either the Vero 514 or 516 GE, which is exactly what I plan to do once I complete my return.

I've only been using this for about a month, but it is awesome. It's super fast and easy to use. It handles all the basic stuff extremely well, and video calls are really great on this machine. I used the Pixelbook for a year or so, and this is a big upgrade. This laptop should work well for the vast majority of people. I highly recommend it.

ACER Chromebook Spin 714 Laptop

The newest version of the ACER Chromebook Spin 700 series is the new 714 convertible. This unit features an Intel 12th Generation Core i5 which is a mid-grade processor but plenty fast enough to get the schoolwork done. Eight gigabytes of RAM is enough for multitasking, editing, and mild game play. The Intel Iris Xe Graphics is at the lower end of the spectrum, but this does not reduce the usefulness of this laptop for school and work use. The screen is 14 inches, and touch screen. Internal disk space is a 256 gigabyte Solid State Drive. This feature allows for an almost instant on. The Lithium-ion battery lasts up to 10 hours. The keyboard is backlit. The laptop folds over into a 14-inch tablet. The case has the following connection ports.
1 HDMI output
1 USB 3.2 Type A
2 USB Type C charging ports
1 USB 3.2 Type C
2 Thunderbolt 4 ports
1 1080p front facing camera
Built-in microphone
Stylus is included
The standard ACER 1-year parts and labor warranties.
There is plenty of speed with this newly updated Spin 714. Running multiple applications, I never noticed a slow down or lag. This laptop is perfect for taking to school or on the job. Its lightweight design makes it a breeze to carry in your book bag. I would recommend this to family or friend.

I've historically been a Chromebook hater. MOST Chromebook's cut corners somewhere, no storage, terrible processor, poor build quality, something. This one is different. I teach computer science, as well as, am a student for a graduate certificate. Here are the things I want to say about this one,
The processor is solid, U series chips are generally monsters that have a low base clock and turbo to something decent for a short time at the cost of high battery use and high amounts of heat generation. This chip is unique, it has a great bast clock (over 3GHz), plenty of cores and sips on the battery. I didn't observe any bottlenecks from the processor on this computer.
The system memory/RAM included seems to be sufficient for the operating system (8GB is more than plenty for this device). on board storage of 256GB is a nice feature as well. The biggest thing for me was the build quality. The trackpad is nice, the keyboard offers little flex, the screen is good (bright and accurate).
Everything about this computer bucks the trend from Chromebooks, You'll be impressed with the combination of components, and quality of build. The battery seems to last all day with little issue. If you are looking for a Chromebook, look no further!

Good, but not great.

I got this to assist me in my IT training (I educate teachers on new tech) and I will say I am glad I did. However, there are some minor things that keep me for fully using it everyday. But that will come later. I like to do a good, bad, and ugly review on my products. So here we go.
Good:
Battery life it great. I am able to get through most of my day on 1 charge using static content (power point, word, etc) and a little video.
Keyboard and touch pad are very responsive and have nice click/travel.
Color gamut is fantastic as the colors really pop with high color separations.
Weight is a little lighter than most with a screen this size.
Resolution is good with plenty of wiggle room to adjust to your preferred size.
USB-C ports are fast and I was able to charge from either side, making this easier to accommodate any desk I was assigned to.
Viewing angle is one of the best I have used on a Chomebook as in most cases this is a area some models skimp on to save money.
Refresh rate is super. I did not see any screen tearing or muted colors while watch high resolution content.
Pen is crowning jewel in this model. I love having the ability to use the stowed pen that is always charged thanks to the powered stow area. it is very well "hidden" to prevent accidental lose.
Flip screen that lets you use it tent or tablet style is great. that way I can set up a presentation and show all viewers at the same time with little worries. using the table mode is great for note taking, art work or doing more exact tasks that don't work well with mouse/touchpad alone.
Bad:
Touch screen is not as sensitive as I would like. I found myself having to tap more than once to get things going. I will admit that I run cold, so maybe my frozen fingers are a partial blame. Also the screen is slightly more flexible than I was expecting, causing rainbow pixels if you press a little to firmly.
Pen is rather skinny and not really usable for long note taking, drawing, or whatever else you might use it for. After a while I kept dropping it from using it took long, as it thinner than a normal pencil.
Only 2 USB-C ports? not everyone has Bluetooth devices and most don't have type-c connectors. so cheap mice, keyboards and such that teachers tend to buy are out the window.
This is a fingerprint magnet. Just taking it out of the box caused dark spots were my fingers were and the anti glare screen is hard to just wipe off with out a "smearing" effect. So use it with out touch and enjoy the pristine screen, or actually use it as intended and have smudges all over your viewing area.
Ugly:
Palm rejection is nearly none existent on this. most people will put palm down, then the pencil and then start to write/paint/whatever. On this, you have to hover, touch the screen with pen and then you can touch the palm. I have so many notes with extra lines and highlights because I was adjusting my hand to write further down the page. needless to say, yes will work, but don't expect to be in a hurry and attempt it.
Opening is not a one handed as we were led to believe. almost all the time I have to use both hands and with smooth edges, it is hard to get it open easily. I would hope for at least a notch or something on the top to assist in getting it open quicker.
The webcam.. OMG. We are in 2022 and this thing has 720dpi video with what sounds like mono recording split into 2 channels. Colors are terrible and pixilate if you more to fast. Requires a lot of light to even work somewhat properly.
I would recommend this to someone that uses google classroom, has Bluetooth mouse/keyboard and is not trying to be artistic or use it for video calls. It functions as a Chromebook flawlessly, It is just all the added features that need work to live up to the current needs of 2022.

I bought the Spin 714 a few days after it appeared on the BB website. It was to replace the Spin 713. The build quality is very good. I rarely hear the fan. The display is bright and beautiful. The one thing I miss is no micro-SD card slot so I bought a hub with that. The Spin 714 does everything I need. I use Linux apps with no problems.

Love the Chromebook. I do recommend it. On the other hand; shipping was a joke. The package wasn't even shipped until a week after it was supposed to arrive. Then it took another couple of weeks for me to get it. BB REALLY shouldn't offer 3-day shipping if they can't manage it.

I love this laptop, except for 2 minor issues. The first, perhaps I am spoiled with my older asus chromebook, but this touch screen is nowhere as responsive as the older one--I am now using the TouchPad instead.
Hopefully the second issue doesn't become a major issue later on with other apps but in Google Photos, sometimes the photo on the screen is not great but if I enlarge it or decrease it, and then swirch back, it is fine. This seems to happen only in Google Photos. But I am extremely happy with this chromebook and recommend it to others, especially when on sale.
