I needed a laptop I could use for gaming while staying beneath a certain budget. This one is perfect. Graphics are great, runs smoothly. I play a lot of RPG games that require a good bit of memory and I have had a problem with them glitching out on my previous laptop. I’ve had this for a few weeks now and everythjng seems to be running smoothly. I do wish there was a quick and easy way to turn down the brightenss for the screen? Maybe there is and I just haven’t found it yet . Really no complaints though, the laptop looks really nice and I thought the screen size would be a bit too small but it actually works out really well

Nice laptop for gaming. I have the i7-7700HQ 12gb ram, RX 580, 8gb vram, 128gb M.2, 1TB, but this one broke down on me and i was on a budget, so i bought the Acer to replace it. Yes, i know the other one is better but i just swap the RAM of the 8gb with the 12gb and the Acer run slightly better, and makes game run somewhat smoother thanks to dual channel. Most game will be able to run on High setting. Also lets not forget that it has Ryzen 5 in it too. Overall, I'm a laptop person and this is a great bang for the bucks.

I got this laptop so I could play games that are between 1 and 5 years old when traveling. Something my Lenovo Yoga 730 could not do thanks to the inte graphics. Out of the box: - Conan Exiles between 20 and 30 FPS on medium detail level but there was noticeable freezes when assets would enter the viewing range. - Kerbal Space Program with no issues. - No Mans Sky: It crashed within a minute of playing. - GTA 5: about 15 minutes into gameplay the FPS slowed to a crawl on medium detail level. The biggest problem was memory, followed by a slow hard drive. I added 1x16 GB ddr4 2400 RAM and a 1TB SSD. The Acer backup on a 32 GB usb stick and then doing recovery on a new drive was seamless as if I had never swapped the drive. Now Conan, GTA5 and No Mans Sky all run at 30 FPS with no latency issues on high graphic detail.

    Good Entry Level Gaming Laptop

The Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop is a solid entry level system that will meet the needs of most light to moderate gamers. The Nitro comes nicely packaged in a solid black box with the laptop, power adapter, and mine came with a nice pad that can help with extended sessions on your lap. Build quality is nice, but not the best I've seen. It definitely looks like a gaming laptop with sharp angular designs and red accents. The lid has a black brushed plastic finish while other surfaces are a classic matte black finish. This is fine, but I would've preferred a pattern design or some other type of finish that would've made it look and feel a little more premium. Performance wise, this laptop has a 2.4GHz quad-core AMD Ryzen processor with 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated Radeon RX560 GPU with 4GB of memory. This is plenty of power to satisfy the needs of most users. Note that if you are a power/hardcore gamer, you will not be satisfied with this particular system. I think that it's also important for people to realize that the Nitro 5 has more than a dozen different models ranging from the $600s-$1100s. Some of these systems have more premium setups with SSDs, combination SSD/HDD, additional RAM, upgraded processors, and GPUs. So if this system isn't quite enough for you, one of the others might be a better option. Granted, for the REALLY hardcore gamers, the Nitro 5 won't even be an option. For the rest of us, one of the setups should work. This laptop, while being designated a 'gaming' laptop, will do all of the daily tasks that any other laptop will. Windows, web browsing, Office, etc. So this is a great option for a high school or college student. (Parents, this would be a great gift for the holidays--especially at this price point!) It'll handle almost any game that you throw at it with good performance. In conclusion, the Acer Nitro 5 is a nice entry level gaming laptop that will likely meet the needs of most users. It's size makes it big enough to be enjoyable, but small enough to be easily stowed away in your backpack. So after you're done doing your homework, you can switch to gaming with your friends without any delay. I'd highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't want to drop a fortune on a custom gaming system, but wants the flexibility to enjoy almost all new games with their friends. Pros: *Size *Design *Price *Performance Cons: *Keyboard feels a bit soft *HHD instead of a SSD which I prefer in pretty much every scenario

This is the entry level offering of this laptop series, so it's not going to be top-notch when it comes to gaming, but it does a pretty decent job for the casual gamer like myself! It implements switchable graphics, which can be confusing for some that aren't technically aware of this. With switchable graphics, you basically have a lower-powered on-board graphics chip, AMD Vega 8, which is fine when you're doing anything that doesn't require lots of 3D horsepower, and this helps a lot with battery life when you're doing ordinary tasks. That being said, you need to understand that in some cases when playing a game for the first time, and notice the performance isn't stellar, you most likely need to tell the switchable graphics manager to use the High Performance option, so that it targets the discrete graphics card, instead of the lower powered general purpose graphics. The Radeon software that manages the switchable graphics often times picks the correct option, but I find that on some games you have to tell it to use the High Performance option manually. Something to be aware of, or you might be frustrated with 3d gaming performance in some cases. The 4GB AMD RX 560X isn't stellar, but it comes in using 3DMark with a score of 14963, and my Nvidia 960 on my desktop PC scored 19300, so it's a pretty capable card for a budget gaming laptop! I was playing WoW on high settings and was averaging around 45 fps, whereas my 960 averages around 60 fps on the same settings. Based on online research, it's comparable to a Nvidia 1050. The speakers on this laptop are really good, and the volume is quite impressive for a small laptop. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall sound quality! The screen on this laptop is excellent! Probably it's nicest feature, considering it is an entry-level offering. The RX 560 and Radeon software allow you to run a game using full 4K resolution, a mode called Super Virtual Resolution, but scales it to a normal HD gaming resolution of 1920x1080, so you will see 4K worth of game screen in a regular HD mode. From the moment I turned on the laptop, and started going through setup, I noticed how crystal clear the IPS screen is. A definite nice feature!!! The backlit keyboard is quite decent, and I found it easy to read and type on. The WASD keys have a slightly different feel that the other keys, and have a rubber border around them that gives them a nice tactile feeling when playing games. The AMD Ryzen 5 2500 CPU handles ordinary tasks just fine, but is a budget CPU, so it is going to struggle a bit if you throw too much at it at the same time. The upside to this, is the battery life for normal surfing / video watching is around 6 hours, which is pretty decent for a gaming laptop. While gaming, that goes down to around 2 hours, so expect to be plugged in when doing that. The ports on the laptop are decent, and they didn't skimp on these. It has a card reader, 2 regular USB, 1 USB 3, HDMI, LAN, and audio jack. The laptop comes with a HD webcam builtin to the top of the display bezel, and a microphone for Skype conferencing. The laptop has nice panels on the bottom for accessing the memory and hard drive. An SSD in this and 16 GB of RAM would be a nice performance boost, as the builtin HDD is not stellar, but does the job alright. Overall, this is a well-made quality offering at a budget price with decent gaming performance for the casual gamer. It has some nice features for a budget laptop. I would recommend this to someone that was limited on funds and wanted a portable PC gaming setup with decent performance. Nice job, Acer!

I was looking for a laptop that I could take with me on the road when I work away during the week, and still get some gaming done. I love my Nintendo switch, and really look at it as my gaming console. That being said, there are plenty of wonderful games that I can only play on my PC. Rimworld, Divinity Original Sin 2, Monster Hunter World, and Guild Wars 2 to name a few. I can say I am able to comfortably play any AAA game that I throw at this laptop. It definitely won't be on ultra everything, and I don't expect it to be. If I wanted that I would be on my desktop, but I can't bring my desktop with me to the hotel week. The only thing I would recommend for this model is to get it on sale and use the money you save to add another 4 to 8 gigs of RAM, and a solid state drive of your capacity choice. A great device and I really recommend it!

This thing is pretty sweet and such a bang for your buck when it’s on sale. It plays all games with low to medium settings 1080p at 60fps, it’s not a beast but it surely gets the job done and gives me a perfect little gaming platform on the go!

The Acer Nitro 5 is a pretty good gaming laptop thus far. Compared to my Acer Predator the Nitro can be a little sluggish but I had made a bunch of tweaks and upgraded the ram and so far it can handle gaming and the use of my djing software. It’s a good computer for the budget and has been working fine for my needs. I put four stars due to the sluggishness of the processor but again these issues can be softened through optimization of the system.

This is a really good deal for a gaming laptop. I spent an extra $120 to add and extra 8GB of memory and a 500GB M2 SATA drive (I couldn't find the specs of the slot, so I didn't try NVMe), giving it a total of 1.5 TB of storage. The installed wireless driver did not work well on the 5Ghz network, but after letting Windows search for an updated driver, the issue was resolved. Last thing to do was to update the video drivers, which you can get from AMD directly. The driver provided by Acer crashes running DX12 and Vulkan games. You need to uninstall the Radeon settings first or it fails the install. After those updates and extra storage, I can run DOOM using Ultra settings.

I'm a tattoo artist, and heavy user of Photoshop. I needed a laptop to create my own work space at the shop. Although I'm used to a desktop, this laptop has done an excellent job of handling my design work. I have played a few games from my steam library just to test it. The games played great, albeit a bit of lag due to the shop's has poor wifi. Thoroughly impressed and pleased with the purchase.

Ive had this laptop for about 11 months now and I think its a decent gaming laptop. It can handle most titles with decent graphics, only thing is, is that after 9 months my laptop started to experience shutdowns when I would start typing. Other than that its great for entry level gaming laptop.

I wanted a reasonably priced laptop to game on while traveling for work, yet still able to do real world tasks. The Nitro fit the description to a T, and has lived up to its claims. Its graphics are above par, and the red backlit keyboard is less stressful on my eyes than the more common white. I went with the standard HD for size, but it still boots up quickly. It has a sufficient amount of ports, the fans are quiet and the battery lasts a decent time. No regrets!
