Many appreciate the backlit keyboard and ease of use, but some users note that the battery life could be improved and that the laptop can get warm and noisy during intensive use. The laptop's weight is also a point of concern for some customers.

Starting out the Nitro 5 met my expectations. Going on a month later it has exceeded them. This laptop runs as smooth as any I've had. I wanted something that was powerful enough to run the latest games but not break the bank. I've ran a few different games ranging from PUBG to SCUM to the Blackout beta and it handles them well. Will you get 300 FPS? No. The Fans can get loud and start up as soon as you start a game on the factory settings. The keyboard is ok. It is responsive with not a lot of flex. I am not a heavy fingered gamer but I am not light either. I've only used the trackpad a few times because I started with a mouse but it works well for what it is. The screen looks crisp and clean. So all in all I don't have any major complaints so far. If you are looking for a budget gaming laptop that is relatively affordable this is for you! I will update this once I've played with it a little more

This is by hands down the best laptop I ever had. (for the price)
If you are looking for a good gaming laptop, this is the one you will want. PROS - great high quality gaming graphics, great slick look-red backlight. CONS - does over heat but gets used to it and also a little loud on the fan. Other than that well worth your buck.

So the PC itself is very well made.. it did however have a small factory defect in the ram tray.. hinges broke on a swap. Anyways.. I doubt this is a huge problem In all their products cause is a well made product. Alot of info In their nitro sense software for controlling the fan. Temps and all. Comes with 250 GB of SSD and has an empty 2.5 slot .. I put in a WD black 7400 rpm HDD. Added another 8 gb of 2666 MHz ram and with the nice 1050 Ti This PC is great. No complaints.. the 8th gen i5 does the job well in gaming and for work. Great display, nice feeling keyboard..but very little travel.. some issues with the WiFi card..but nothing big.. it's a great PC to play 95% of titles out there.. I think it's a great price point that can be taken far with 120.00 - 150.00 dollars and a little bit of time.

Boots fast, runs fast, very good graphics, sounds good (play with the settings a little), solid construction, compact, acceptably heavy, fans kick in under extreme load - otherwise quiet, $575 out the door (this was unusual and would be difficult to replicate), durability TBD

Bought this for my 12 yo sons birthday with 8 gig ram and 256 ssd. Was very easy to add another 8 gig of ram and a 1 TB SATA SSD. The i5 processor is awesome for the price and the 1050Ti card is a must. Much faster than the 1050.
Almost didn't give it to him! LOL

I got it on a discounted deal at the time but it is worth the $$$ considering it's under 1k.
What you need to know: The game specs are great... but only when pulled in which shouldn't be an issue considering the battery life is 3yrs, also that is only for gaming purposes (up to 200fps is what I'm getting when plugged in) low 50s when unplugged.
In regards to regular usage you have no need to leave it plugged in as the i5 works like a charm... long story short itll be worth the money. Just plug it in for gaming and you're set, for other usage its quiet optimal and Cortana and the voice commands makes regular usage that much simpler.

I purchased this laptop on sale for $599, and it’s a steal at that price point. The GTX 1050 TI graphics card is adequate for running most modern games at medium settings over 60 FPS. Fortnite runs perfect and Apex Legends runs really well with some video settings tweaks. I’m currently playing Fallout 4 on highest settings averaging 55-60 FPS. The 250 GB SSD runs incredibly quick, however the size is pretty limited, but a future purchase for larger storage should fix that. My only real gripe are the cooling fans. They are LOUD. Fortunately, the Nitro software allows you to control their speed and use, but during heavy gaming sessions, you do need them on a time full burst and they make playing with headphones necessary. That aside, I highly recommend this product.

I use this computer pretty much exclusively for iRacing. I can race on max graphics settings at 120 fps with no issue. This laptop is lightening fast, and not overloaded with bloatwear. The screen has excellent clarity and sharpness. The keys have nice rebound, and feel natural to the touch. The build is a nice sleek design and seems rather sturdy, which I didn’t expect. The touch pad seems adequate, and I haven’t used the speakers so I can’t comment on the sound. It has all the ports needed. In summary, It’s everything you can ask for and more for the price. It does everything I wanted a laptop to do at half the cost I thought I would need to spend.

Works perfectly. Heat is an issue though, but for the price you’re getting good numbers. A few upgrades such as RAM, some extra storage space, and some new cooling agent. Meaniepooh, the YouTuber has great videos on this product.

My wife needed a new computer to replace a much older one that finally died. I wanted to find one above entry level that she could have fun with, since she plays games like The Sims. After researching and looking at laptops in an affordable range, under $800 - this one more than fit the bill. It is fast, has a clear and colorful display, and is VR ready (which will be tested in the near future). The only drawback (so far) is a loud fan, which was a complaint by other reviewers, but doesn't annoy us too much. Seems like with a solid state drive they could have improved on that, which drops the rating to 4.5. Start-up is super fast, downloads are as fast as other computers in the house (depends on your internet speed), streaming is fine, sound is fine, very easy to setup. And most of all - my wife loves it!

Overall performance is excellent, startup and .exe files open quickly and graphics are fast at high resolution settings. I don’t like how hot the power adapter gets tho, must be set on a surface to dissipate heat

The laptop seems to have a lot of good reviews, and also performs fairly well for me. I personally play games like Total war warhammer and it runs just fine. I also watched various videos on YouTube from a channel called MeanPooh (who seems to specialize in the Acer Nitro 5.
The laptop may get hot at times; But you may need to watch your gaming settings, or buy a cooling pad or change ‘thermal paste’ -all of which I never knew about before, but have found them all useful and helped me feel more confident about my purchase of the Acer Nitro 5.

Nine months after playing Sims 4 on it, the keyboard started missing letters. First it was the letter O, then S, then backspace and so on. I thought it was my typing at first, but did some research and found out others were having the same issue. I went to Acer's community supoort and the only 2 suggestions were to pin reset or take the back off to check if keyboard plug was loose on motherboard. I opted for the pin reset. It worked, for about 2 hours. Took it into Geek Squad and it sat for a week. They updated it (since the laptop was giving me issues updating anything), reinstalled the drivers, amongst a few other things, but never ran into the keyboard issue. Perfect but very leary. Three days later, the keyboard issues started again. I got it on video, and posted on Acer's FB page. No response. A week later, I got "system had to restart due to errors" and it got to 45% then gave me "no bootable device". Posted those pics on Acer's FB page, and finally got a response. Did what they suggested and went back to factory settings because that should fix the keyboard issues. Heck no, it made it worse. Acer wants me to send it in, with a 7-10 repair window, but at this point and time, I'm ready to just throw this thing out the window and cut my $800 loss, making sure never to buy another Acer product. Also, this thing runs very hot.
I only gave this 3 stars due to it was a great laptop when I got it. It was smooth and graphics were clear, lightweight and loved the keyboard backlight until it stopped working even though the plug was in. I only play Sims 4 and zoom around on the internet.

Purchased laptop on Black Friday for my husband for Christmas. It is very fast and has been working very efficiently. My husband isn’t a big gamer but does enjoy playing fortnite with our daughter and enjoys VR. This laptop meets the requirements for oculus which is great. Since it came with only 256g ssd, I did purchase a 1tb ssd to install in it. The installation was extremely simple and we did it ourselves at home with limited knowledge of computer hardware installation. This laptop has two slots for ssd/hdd so this aided in the simplicity at installation. We will be upgrading the ram in the upcoming months but as of right now it goes beyond our expectations for a budget gaming laptop.

I upgraded to the Acer Nitro after using an HP Envy for my gaming needs. Comparatively, the Acer is miles ahead. It can run my games at full capacity (like Apex) when plugged in. Its also much more affordable. I don't see why you would need the $900+ laptops with crazy specs. This is more than enough. I can't comment of durability as I've only had it for about a month, but its good so far. The only downside is limited storage, but its an easy fix by storing game files on an extended hard drive.

Not sure why everyone was so quick to provide a negative review without even testing their machine first. It explicitly says under the description that the computer was taken out of its box and upgraded.
This laptop is easily hundreds of dollars cheaper than any other Nitro 5 with an SSD, 1T HDD, 1050TI, and 16gb RAM. Not sure how we lucked out!
It typically takes HOURS to work through all the initial updates. It took about an hr on this machine! I was quickly gaming and playing on high settings. No other machine comes close to what you’re getting with this for the price. Buy now!
