Customers are delighted by the Nitro 5's performance, graphics capabilities, and fast SSD, frequently citing its excellent value for the price. Many appreciate the backlit keyboard and ease of use, but some users note that the battery life could be improved and that the laptop can get warm and noisy during intensive use. The laptop's weight is also a point of concern for some customers.

Good mid-range laptop I picked up for Black Friday. The GTX 1050ti is sufficient for most modern games on medium/high settings and run a good frame rate. It is also nice for for my CS6 needs as well.
I did upgrade it to 16gb of ram. It really does lose points for only coming with 8gb today. Computers from a decade ago had 8gb so it is just a weird thing to skimp on when it is targeting entry level gamers. But at least the 8gb was a single stick so you can double it easily with another 8gb Micron 2666 stick to keep it matched.
The NVMe drive feels a bit slower than my Samsung SATA SSDs I've been running. So it isn't a super fast nor super slow drive(easily stomps on a 5400rpm HDD), but something to keep in mind. Also it isn't easily accessible like the expansion HDD and ram bays. Upgrading the stock NVMe likely requires full disassembly.
One major piece to note. Is it throttles like mad when on battery power. So much so that it doesn't even seem to get hot enough to cause the fan to kick on to a level you can hear it. So it can game, but mobile gaming on battery would be best on low/medium settings so you don't drop frames as bad. Point of reference the Unigine benchmark was ~1600 on battery, but ~2200 plugged in.
Overall for the sale price and it's ability to run Overwatch and Destiny 2 satisfactorily when plugged in I'd give it a 4.5 for its value. At MSRP I'd say it deserves a 3.5-4.0 since for 15-25% more you can get higher tier gaming laptops that are going to be 60%+ better at graphics performance with a GTX 1060.

For the price this laptop is definitely worth the purchase. So far everything has been running smoothly. It’s been able to run every game so far, fortnite, smite, counter strike, to name a few. Only down fall can’t play apex legends, the graphics card can’t handle it, it lags a lot. But still would recommend this laptop to anybody. Purchased the laptop on Black Friday and has been on heavy duty every since.

Plays most AAA games on high. Fast start up. Runs a little warm when stressed but not overly hot. Unlike some reviews fan noise is minimal. Sound is decent. Screen brightness is good indoors but unplayable outdoors. Larger ssd would have been nice but the ability to add another hhd is good. More ram 8 is ok but 16 would have really iced it. All in all a nice gaming laptop. Would definitely recommend it too others.

We bought this laptop for our 9 year old who plays Fortnite, Roblox and Planet Coaster. The graphics are amazing and the games play great. The only downside to this laptop is the battery life. While playing games, he gets maybe an hour before it needs to be charged. For the price, we can't complain too much.

Laptop performs well and I like design except screen was always too dull and then it developed a damage crack in it's appearance. Since I didn't drop or have an accident for crack lines to develop, I contact Acer about getting it covered under my still valid warranty, but they decline and offered to repair it for $449 plus shipping both ways which I'm not doing. The part is $49.99 if I want to do it myself or pay a skilled computer repair person to install a new screen. I added 1TB solid state Samsung drive and 8gb more ram and the system performs well using external monitor since buying it last September except when using it at Starbucks. I don't like the battery is entombed inside instead of being able to pop out externally, but I understand I could crack open this laptop when it becomes necessary to replace for it looks like a fairly good build minus the fragile dull screen so far. I want to replace it with a high quality bright screen and not a standard Acer replacement screen which seems to be the weak part of their build here.

This guy is no joke it packs a punch has all the specs you need to run games on high settings and record also with nitro sense it doesn't overheat. I had upgraded the ram on this so it can run even higher games that require higher graphics card but it runs fine and smooth this is an overall really good gaming laptop is worth every penny I got mine on sale so worth it.

Laptop performs great, very fast as everything is on an SSD. I have had it for more than a year, I've noticed the screen burns at brightness higher than half way, the charger bends with my setup and over the year is getting closer to bending it out of the socket entirely. For being a gaming laptop, there is not many games you can put on it, as it only has 256 GB worth of space and with my experience, an external hard drive keeps disconnecting randomly as I play, which eliminates that option.. So I'm stuck with two games. Not bad for a casual game player, can run most games at medium to low graphics no problem.
Pros:
Fast
Reliable
SSD - Fast Startup
Cons:
Not a lot of storage space
Screen burns at high brightness
Charger bends out of socket
USB 3.0 disconnects easily (Not sure if this one is the laptop's fault or the external hard drive I use)
Buy on sale - Not worth full price

I went to Best Buy after another computer store suggested a laptop to me that was much more expensive and seemed unnecessary for what I needed. I wanted a laptop to perform well in video and photo editing and this what was suggested. It is amazing in both categories. It runs great, didn't cost more than what I wanted to pay, and I like how it looks too :)

I have had the laptop for a few weeks now and like it’s performance so far. All of my programs open fast. I do have it hardwired to the internet though because it seemed to lag when using WiFi. I think that is more of a product of the slow WiFi than the laptop itself. So far it has proven to be a good deal for me. I hope it sustains for years to come as well.

So I got this computer for two reasons, one to hold my music and the other for gaming on the go. This worked for both. For gaming wise I was looking at the games Stellaris and Ffxiv. Both games loaded up well and worked smoothly. Graphics wise they looked nice. I loaded up bdo since that was more graphics heavy and it loaded up looking nice. So this computer has two options the 256gb SSD or the 2 tb hdd. I did the solid state. I only have my music library, a few games, Microsoft office and discord and I've used a little over half the storage space. If you are planning to have a ton of games on here and other projects I would suggest either go with the 2tb hdd, get a external hard drive or upgrade the ssd to a bigger capacity. Luckily it seems that acer has made it easier to upgrade the hard drive and ram. According to the rep I talked with and looking at the bottom of the computer, there are two panels one is for the ram the other the hard drive l, so it seems user friendly for upgrading those. Overall I believe this was a good buy. The only thing i would need to manage is the memory, but since i have specific needs and am not leading my while gaming library on it, it should be fine. I would reccomend this to my friend due to price point and capabilities.

...especially when on sale. Expandable storage with 2.5 inch drive. Expandable memory. Bulky and heavy though. Pannel is ok. Keyboard needs improvement and spacing out. I would definately eliminate the 10 number keys to save sapce and have a more spacious layout. Keys feel mushy. Red backlight cannot be dimmed. Not overloaded with bloatware. Decent for its price.

BEST Entry level gaming laptop!!

I will start out this review by saying this laptop blew my expectations. Since this is on the cheaper end of gaming laptops I was expecting to notice that in performance or design.
The design of this laptop is much different than other gaming laptops that exists. It is much thinner and lighter than others. It has some lines and the red black color scheme but other than that it is a lot closer to a regular laptop. It is also not as bulky and heavy. It still comes in at just under 6 pounds so it is hefty compared to some modern day ultra-books. Part of the reason that it is so cheap is because it is made out of a lot of plastic. The plastic can make it feel a little less premium but I still love its design. The keyboard has red backlighting which I am personally a fan of. In addition the WASD keys are outline with read so that they can easily be found during gaming. The keys are extremely quiet when typing and there is little feedback. After some time you get used to typing on it but a little more feedback and travel would be nice. One complaint is how close together the keys are. However, my biggest complaint about the keyboard is how all of the functions such as changing the volume or brightness require you to hold down the function key and then press each function. They do not have their own dedicated keys like on most laptops and they are spread out throughout the keyboard. I found it to be time consuming and a hassle to change any of these settings. I can normally type without looking at the keyboard but on this laptop every time I would hit the backspace key I kept hitting the number lock key on the 10 key. The track pad works decent but I would recommend getting a mouse to use while gaming or working on it. The screen is full HD and offers great colors. It is one of the better screens I have seen on a laptop. Another great thing about the screen is that it is anti-reflective which in my opinion makes a huge difference. As far as ports I wish that the two 2.0 USB ports were 3.0 but it does have one 3.0 and a Type C port. It is nice that it includes all of these ports because it is compatible with both old and new technology without needing a bunch of dongles.
The next thing I would like to cover is upgradability. Every year newer, better, and faster technology comes out. A lot of laptops are getting to a point where everything is soldered onto the mother board. With as fast as technology becomes outdated it is important that you can update your laptop with new technology. It was an extreme surprise to me that there was room in the Hard drive bay to add an extra 2.5 in HDD or SDD for more storage. This was nice because it only has 256gbs of storage so it would be easy to throw in an extra drive for more storage. You can also easy access the memory where you can fit two sticks of DDR 4 laptop RAM. I also decided to dig deeper and pull off the entire bottom of the laptop. It comes off easily if you remove all the screws. This was extremely helpful especially if you wanted to clean out the dust on the inside of the laptop. From here I found the internal SSD. To my surprise it was an m.2 PCIe SSD. This means that it can be replaced with something like a Samsung EVO 960 SSD. This can be a fairly cheap upgrade to much faster and larger storage. So this laptop not only allows you to add a SATA drive but you can also replace the internal SSD because it is not soldered to the motherboard.
Last and possibly most importantly is performance. This PC was built for gaming and in order to handle games the hardware must be very good. Although the internal components can be upgraded to better and faster ones, the components that it comes with performed amazingly. The new 8th generation Intel I5-8300H performed extremely well. I was a little weary about gaming on an i5 instead of i7 but it had no problem at all. In fact it is most likely faster than some i7s. The ram at 8gbs seemed to be enough although I will eventually upgrade to 16 and it can support up to 32! The SSD is one of the fastest that exists and the only downside of it is that its only 256 gbs but still plenty. The graphics card is also one of the better ones and came handy while gaming. It was able to handle Fortnite on Epic settings without any issues. One thing to think about while gaming is keeping your computer cool. This laptop has an awesome cooling system and great ventilation. Even after gaming for an hour or more on it I never really even heard the fans kick up to high. NitroSense is an awesome program that it comes pre-installed with that allows you to adjust the fan settings. There is no doubt that this laptop can handle any of today’s popular games with the hardware that it comes with. Last part of performance is battery life. It is not expected to have all day battery life as it is a gaming laptop but if you are on the go and not gaming you can get 4-5+ hours depending on your settings. For the power it has to offer I would not complain about the battery life.
Overall I think this is a great laptop. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to get into gaming but is on a budget. Right out of the box it can handle games and down the road it would be very easy to upgrade the internals making it that much better. There are a couple flaws in the design but they are nothing major that should stop anyone from buying this laptop. I do not think there is any other laptop on the market in this price range that is performing this well. In addition to gaming it would be a great laptop for anyone needing a lot of processing power for business such as video or photo editing.

Very nice looking hardware, sleek and not too heavy! Screen resolution is great. The back lit keyboard is a nice touch. Boots cold to Windows desktop in just under 22 seconds. Runs a little loud (to be expected) when under heavy graphics load but I get it, cooling is paramount. Only thing I tested so far is Farcry 4 on high and it ran butter smooth.

This computer is a great budget laptop for what it’s worth. The price is reasonable I think, and the laptop does perform well. This laptop lasted me about two years before the hinges started becoming a problem. They began getting loose to the point where The screen would constantly shake and become annoying .

I've been looking for a new Laptop. Prior to purchasing this, I had the HP Beats Edition laptop. Is was fine for general things but it really couldn't handle the software applications I needed to run. The Nitro can do that with no problem. It's light and I love the back light on the keyboard. It's very fast and plays games rather well I must say.

Everything works fine and no lag or anything, but one thing I need to update stuff a lot too keep stuff moving and so it won’t lag. For example, I played WWZ 4th time or something it was lagging, so you need to update the laptop consistently good CPU, Graphics card, and really makes downloading fast with the solid state drive.

We bought it during the labor day sales and could not pass up on the price for what you get. Bought it for my girlfriend and she uses it every day and absolutely loves it! This is an absolutely amazing machine. For the price range you cannot beat it! Runs games smoothly and does not overheat. I dropped an extra 8GB into the memory and it really screams now. Added a 500gb SSD as well for gaming/photo storage. Highly recommend this laptop.
