great entry level gamer system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bare in mind that I have only had this system for 3 days. I would have given this system a 5 star rating but I did have to do a few things to insure it worked at its best. Anytime you buy any notebook or desktop [retail systems] you are going to have to run updates on the system. Those updates may be windows, bios and/or drivers because the computer may be months old in the stores inventory. Like mine was built on 01/23/2019 but I bought it on March 6th 2019. I had to update some of the windows ,bios and drivers. The wireless card was not working well so I had to update the drivers on it which fixed the problem. All this being said once I got it updated it has been running like a dream. I only have 2 CONs CON 1: I wish the backlite keyboard would stay lighted up at least when its plugged into power. I could understand if your on battery power not wanting to run down your battery. CON 2: I wish the M.2 slot was NVME compatible so the a faster drive could be installed. I am not a hardcore gamer and you are a hardcore gamer this may not be the system for you. I play a lot of older games like Star wars the old republic, Champions online and Neverwinter just to name a few and I can run all these at ultra setting and get 55-65 FPS and heat staying around 45-65degrees [ with a cool mat ] easy. But their graphics engines are a few years old and aren't as demanding so the gtx1050ti works like a dream for them. The heat issue is not a issue as long as you buy a good cool mat which if your using any notebook you should have one because by nature of the beast all notebooks get hot really just some worse then others. I may do a repaste of the heat sinks at some point in the future as recommended by other posters but its only been 3 days and everything seems to be cooling great and working fine. If you are a casual gamer this is a excellent notebook for the money and the features. PS. This system does not come with any type of real recovery disks or partitioned hard drive space. you have to create a recovery Flash Drive (16gb in size of free space) in the Acer Care window on your programs list.

Great machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A few gripes are the keys that are colored differently, i do like the red led, it helps you sleep, if you look at the bottom of all of the other laptops there isn't a quick access to storage and memory, this one has it. dont be stupid, spend the extra 50 for the ssd and buy another ssd if you're a data hoarder, the hard drive on a 6 year old laptop is the only speed limiter there is. this machine is super well balanced and gives the customer options to quintuple storage and quadruple memory. very satisfied with the purchase

Fantsatic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent computer. I recently upgraded from an ASUS from 2015 and this thing takes 5 seconds to turn on. Talk about fast! I can also play all the games my last computer couldn't play such as kingdoms of amalur. I even played some Battlefield one to see if it would crash and didn't. The greatest con to this computer is battery life and speakers. They don't bother me but just be aware if you want to travel with this you are going to only get 2 hours of life during browsing.

Solid Gaming Laptop - added Ram and extra SSD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a 20 year IT professional with money to burn on a gaming laptop. I picked this one up based on the reviews. Some said it was a starter gaming laptop, perhaps for a teen. I doubled the RAM and an added an extra SSD, which really not that expensive. I do have 1000GB ethernet connection. I have been very happy this laptops performance. I play fortnite on it a lot. I am very happy with my purchase. I would pick this laptop again.

This laptop is a great medium level gaming laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally bought this laptop to play Fortnite and I ran some benchmarks on it. I bought the version with the i5 - 8300u with the 1050ti and I got 120 fps average on 1080p, epic view distance, medium anti-aliasing and low everything else. It has a 60 Hz screen and with ips and the colors looks great. If you are going to start trying to play fortnite more smoothly, then you should buy this laptop as it is the best laptop for its price. It's better than 1,000 dollar laptops.

Great gaming laptop, CPU tends to overheat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first bought this the laptop, it passed everything I threw at it but then I started to realize that the CPU tends to overheat going up to 100°C while gaming. It doesn't stay at that point though, it sits at 90°C average while gaming but still that isn't good. When you buy this laptop I'd recommend you going online and buying a gaming laptop cooling pad as it helps to keep the temperature of the CPU and GPU down. Also another factor that you'd want to look out for is when you're heavily gaming, the battery tends to drop to 95% and says; plugged in, discharging. This however isn't a big issue for me as the battery drops to 95% and probably every 20 minutes or so it drops 1%. However after closing the game or putting the computer in a state where it's not really running anything big it charges all the way back up normally. I'm sure the computer does this to use the battery and the AC so the computer won't get too hot but I just wanted to throw that in there. Otherwise everything else about this PC is great and for the price it's great for those who budget. I would also recommend (if you're the type of person who installs a lot of games or applications) to buy an external SSD (Soild State Drive) that plugs into your laptop to increase space for your computer.

Let’s get past the numbers...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There’s a lot of reviews here throwing around benchmark numbers, and talking about the components. This ultimately helped me make my decision to buy. It did occur to me though that many may not understand the significance of the number crunching. So I’m writing this for the basic end user, who just wants to know, will it play games? First, yes you can easily expand memory (2666mhz SODIMM chip needed). Yes, you can expand the storage (2.5” ssd, sshd, or hdd needed). Now to gaming. My games of choice are World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 14 Online, Fortnite, Legends of Aria, Overwatch, and League of Legends. World of Warcraft runs on Ultra settings comfortably at 45-65 FPS. You may need to drop to high or very high for raids or highly populated battlegrounds. FFXIV Runs at high (1080p) or very high/maximum at 720p. Over 60 FPS. Fortnite easily runs on Epic, at exactly 60FPS (Sustained). Legends of Aria, Overwatch, and League of Legends all run over 75fps set at Ultra/Max. Those 3 play well on a toaster though. Twitch Streaming: This laptop is very capable of playing many titles, and streaming in 1080p 30FPS OR 720p 60FPS. The trick here is to make sure the game isn’t running on all cores (many games don’t anyways). It’s a quad core 8 thread processor. What I do is go into task manager and turn off atleast 1 physical core, and 2 virtual cores for the game. Those are then dedicated to twitch. Twitch is almost all CPU, and Internet. The GPU really doesn’t do much for twitch. So you CAN put out a good quality stream while simultaneously running games on this laptop. Of course, it’s always recommended to run twitch on a second PC with a capture device. I’ll be running a $200-$300 cheaper laptop that only focuses on twitch. As of the time of this review the Acer Nitro 5 (1050ti) is on sale at Best Buy for $679.99. A great deal! If you want to run the very latest titles at Ultra/Max doing 120+ FPS this isn’t for you. Honestly, anything over 60FPS is just bragging rights anyways. If you want a solid gamer for things like MMORPGs, First person Shooters, and engaging RPG/RTS/MOBA gaming, this is your laptop. For the casual to moderately competitive gamer, it’s a steal when on sale, and a decent deal at full price when on a budget!

Great budget gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it on sale and it's been great. It's not perfect by any means being the screen but it's still great. Acer gives you a empty slot of ram and sata drive. SSD comes with it, which makes it better than competitors and also a sleeve, how nice of Acer. The wireless 9560 ac is not heard of in this price point. Last note, the laptip is 5.95 lbs at 1.1 at it's thickest point so it's a bit on the heavy side but still portable.

Spend your money elsewhere
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing but junk. I've had this 8 months. It plays older games fine. Fans are loud. The screen backlight fluctuates when it's turned down in the lowest or next to lowest setting. ANNOYING. Speaking of annoying, the keyboard backlights shut off after 30 seconds if you're on battery. Notice how I mentioned the lowest screen brightness? Welp, you guessed it, I'm in a DARK ROOM where I need a LIT KEYBOARD. And as much as I'd like a desktop, I needed a laptop, and once I found one with a LIT KEYBOARD I thought I was set... NOPE! So, the backlight sucks, both in the screen and in the keyboard, the keyboard stroke depth is terrible, the fans are loud, but, if you just want an internet cruiser with the speed of a chromebook, but running windows, this is your ticket, if it wasn't twice the price. Buyer beware. I'll never buy another acer product. Never had any luck.

Best priced laptop with good dedicated graphics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great gaming laptop for the price. Lowest price gaming laptop I have seen that has a dedicated graphics card. And a free padded laptop envelope (?). Only issue so far is small storage (but with SSD). Best Buy reward points from this purchase can help get hard drive to put in the open slot.

Not that great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyboard letters are a dark red, meaning you will *not* see them unless you have a light directly on them or the backlight is currently on, before it turns off again. Touchpad isn't sensitive enough and is difficult to use and will miss at least half the presses and motions you make. Despite being a gaming laptop it doesn't seem to be able to process server-client changes very quickly, though it does graphics pretty well if you want to set them high. Still gets pushed to its limit, though. Surfing the internet seems to be the best thing it can do smoothly. Fans are loud. Regarding weight, it's not really that heavy and can easily be picked up and moved around, just don't try holding it with one hand. If you want a gaming laptop, I don't recommend this one if you don't plan on upgrading it.

Nice Machine; with 1 big flaw
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I would give this a 3.5 if I could, but have to round down on it. The ACER machine is a NICE machine. It has a moderate sized SSD hard drive, and it is very quick to boot up. Performance is quick and very functional. Most games intitial tested with it, have played just fine. The first .5 start deduction; is on the screen. Thre is almost a 3/4" to 1" bezel all the way around the screen... so looking at the laptop from teh outside, you would expect the screen itself to be bigger. It is still a good sized screen, but would have been much better if the screen was almost edge to edge. The BIG deduction; is on the one component you are going to use the most. The trackpad, is just bad. You have to press fairly deeply/hard, to get it to register the click... and is almost TOO sensitive, gental motions with the finger is causing the mouse to jump all over. It is easily addressed, by using an external mouse.. but that may not be an option for everyeone. Overall, this is a pretty good laptop, I just really wish it had a higher end track pad on it. Some other quick notes: No optical (DVD/BluRay) drive; that is fairly common but if you need it.... It has every connector; USB-C; USB3;USB2; HDMI; Hard-Line Ethernet; and SD Card Reader Comes with a nice soft carrying case as well. Uses a larger power adapter; due to the power demands o fthe laptop.

Great gaming laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know you want to know, yes it plays Fortnite. But it is so much more. Look, I have a self-built PC I was running SLI with two graphics cards for years (back in early 2000's). I had a HP that had the highest NVIDIA graphics card at that time aswell. Then I retired those machines and focused on being a dad and college student. Bought me a Surface Pro 3. So I bought this laptop, figured I liked what was inside this thing for the price. WOW, I was pretty shocked at the performance. It runs very very smooth. I don't run Fortnite on 'epic' settings, and don't on this machine either. I try to save FPS. But, wow no lag, not freeze, no slow down yet. Maybe I'll check back in a few months. Grab this little laptop at this price, you won't regret it.

The Acer Nitro 5 is amazing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Boot up time is phenomenal. The laptop functions perfectly. Graphics while playing games is stunning. Crisp colors and no motion blur at all. The video card keeps up with fast scene changes and offers an amazing picture and action feels like your are really a part of the game. I would highly recommend this laptop for gaming as well as production. The keyboard is backlit in red and the black case makes it look amazing.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the Acer Nitro 5 is a great laptop, nice designs, very fast performance in boot time and opening applications. Great Laptop for the Casual Gamer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop as a replacement for my old one a month ago, and in that time, I've grown to love this one! This laptop has a great price point for someone looking to game casually, has a profile that doesn't scream gamer, which is nice if you're using this for more than gaming, and is relatively lightweight. You may have to play around with the graphics settings on some games, but overall this handles greatly!
