Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the Nitro 5's performance, graphics capabilities, and fast SSD, frequently citing its excellent value for the price. Many appreciate the backlit keyboard and ease of use, but some users note that the battery life could be improved and that the laptop can get warm and noisy during intensive use. The laptop's weight is also a point of concern for some customers.

Upgrades from a Lenovo ideapad because it would no longer run World of Warcraft. Splurged for this model because the Best Buy guy talked me into the benefits of a SSD. Most games (including Kingdom Come: Deliverance) I just set the graphics all the way to the right, and enjoy the eye candy. Boot up is faster than some Macs I've owned in the past. 11/10 would spend whole paycheck again.

After losing a $1300 Surface laptop that was barely 2 years old to a swollen battery, I was pretty reluctant to spend a similar amount of money on its replacement. Luckily, Best Buy had this lowkey gem for half the price! Admittedly, I wasn't super concerned with gaming when I picked up the Surface, but now that it kicked the bucket, I decided I did want something better suited for it. With a Core i5 8300h, fast SSD drive, bright 1080 IPS panel, and a dedicated video card for all-purpose gaming, I can do everything I want to do without taking a huge hit to my bank account. At just under 6 pounds, the laptop is just light enough to actually be portable (compared to most gaming laptops which tend to give in to the weight of the tech required to run games at a high performance level). The build quality is ok considering the cost. You get a full keyboard with numerical pad, although some people may not like the feel of it and I'd recommend a mouse over the included touchpad. This model is also user upgradeable and can accommodate another 2.5" SSD as well as additional memory. If you're a gamer on a budget or if you just need something reasonable to take with you on the go, it's hard to find a better deal than the Acer Nitro 5.

    Excellent Performance for the Price

PERFORMANCE: This laptop packs a punch for its price point. I purchased this as a supplementary device to my custom built PC. After using this laptop for a while I hardly touch my desktop! The processor is very quick, it does get hot under long workloads (gaming, video editing, etc) however the fan managed this heat very well and it maxed out at 90 Degrees C, well below the 110 Degree limit imposed on the 8300H. FORM FACTOR: There's no getting around the fact this is a gaming laptop, coming with a size to match. The device is definitely going to be thicker than ultrabooks on the market, but that isn't what this laptop is trying to be. Performance over form would describe it well. Despite being a thick device, it isn't a total eyesore like some of the other laptops on the market. The most "gamer" looking thing about this laptop is the Red Backlit Keyboard. That being said I would have no problem bringing this laptop to a coffee shop or to a lecture without worrying that it looks like a big glowing toy. Overall I highly recommend this laptop, just be aware it is a large 15.6'' laptop, and for gaming you are going to want to be plugged in! Once you ramp up that 1050TI You can say goodbye to battery life.

    Best laptop for the price

check out my youtube video on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNMpqjAQeng So let me first start by saying this computer is not the best laptop but for what you pay and get it, its the best for value all around. I use it for video editing and like the fact that it at least has a 8gb ram and that it can be upgradable to 32gb ram which i intend on doing. I looked for months and watched countless videos looking for that 1 laptop that could get me everything I need which is good specs and potentional. IMO get this laptop now while its in stock because at this price and what your getting it wont last. The next best laptop is at least 1100$ so this is definitely a must have. The heating issue people talk about is only experienced if you play games on it for a couple hours and not give it a break but what system or computer doesnt overheat unless you spent thousands of dollars making sure you have the best performing laptop.

Good value, but a couple quirks to consider:

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ram usage is a tad high with no programs running. about 3gb while only task manager is running: may be a gimmick to get you to upgrade your ram, as this amount actually gets in the way when you're running demanding games. You can't have too many other programs running concurrently, or esle you will encounter stutters. Performance while plugged in is great, but your cpu and gpu temps get extremely high! On default settings you could encounter 90 degrees C in your CPU. Somewhat expected for a laptop, but still, this needed attention. The integrated software, NitroSense, helps with this though, as you can set the fans to run at max, which keeps the CPU around mid 70's to mid 80's. Better, but not great. Performance while on battery is limited to 30 fps in more demanding AAA games, but hard to notice when you're doing lighter tasks. The bottleneck seems to be the battery, as it can't output power fast enough. This seems to be common in gaming laptops, but keep this in mind if you wanted to run AAA games off of the battery: the framerate caps itself

Purchased it on $200 sale - thanks to BestBuy. Overall performance is more that enough for regular use. Keyboard backlit is not very useful, but can be turned off. Size/weight is too big to carry it with you every day, but not too big to use it at home.

Highly would recommend for the price. One thing is that the battery does die quickly under stress. Also to play in the true gaming experience, you need to have the charger plugged.

This is in my opinion the perfect budget gaming pc. It will run nearly everything you would want it to. Settings for games will range but it always seems to meet the minimum requirement or be more then enough to do so.

The first time i bought the laptop there was a problem with the gpu after less than a week and I had to replace it. Now with the second one i currently have there are many problems with it. One is that the system overheats way too fast and the fans are really loud for no reason. I can have nothing opened and they are still loud. The overheating is crazy. Not even 10 minutes loading up a game like overwatch or r6s the gpu is at like 80-90 which makes the fps go down to 30 at low settings. The computer also crashes a lot for no reason. It crashes for me like at least 5 times a week just by playing a game. Overall dont waste your money on this crap

    Works great...when it's not freezing

I decided to finally get a "good" laptop instead of a cheap charlie that I knew wouldn't last more than 2 years. It starts right up and runs great....until it freezes for no apparent reason. The first time I tried everything to get it up and running again and all I could get was a lit up keyboard with a blank screen. My son suggested removing the battery for a bit......not an option. I was furious and ready to take the day off from work to travel the hour to our nearest Best Buy to return it. After searching the net on my phone I found others with the same issue and followed the instructions to "reset" the battery with a paperclip...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It came back on and then froze a few days later, repeat and it froze a few days later. This latest time it worked for a few weeks before it froze twice tonight. I was just using Facebook, I haven't even attempted and RPG yet. This machine to way too expensive for this nonsense!

    Plastic screen broke down

I bought this laptop like two and a half months ago and it worked well until its screen went bad and looked like cracked for some reason which I am not sure of. I contacted Acer support about the issue since my warranty expires almost a year after, they said I would have to pay $450USD for something that warranty wouldn't cover. I would recommend the product overall, it is more than enough for entry level gaming as well as daily use. I wish I could have a better experience after having a problem though.

      Dear Berk,
We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you; we can certainly understand you’re frustrated. Based on your comments it appears the LCD sustained a crack or break of some kind. You can see examples of an internally cracked LCD here: https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2122
This type of damage does not occur due to age or normal usage of the device therefore this type of damage is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. With that said we do understand this is frustrating for you and and we want to work with you to see how we can help improve this experience. So I have had this laptop for about a month now. I would highly recommend getting a mouse because my left side of the touchpad doesn't work anymore. For that reason i docked this laptop a star.
