Customers are delighted by the Nitro 5's performance, graphics capabilities, and fast SSD, frequently citing its excellent value for the price. Many appreciate the backlit keyboard and ease of use, but some users note that the battery life could be improved and that the laptop can get warm and noisy during intensive use. The laptop's weight is also a point of concern for some customers.

    Decent laptop for the price!

It's a nice laptop only real fault is the fact that it doesn't have much ram. Luckily they made it to have easy access to the ram slots so you can replace or add more!

    Don’t Buy

We purchased this laptop in November of 2017, and has broken in less than 8 months. Not even a year, which is extremely disappointing. It first started with the screen bugging out, and crashing whenever I did certain functions, including using web browsers. I was running Windows 10 with all the updates as they came. I also didn’t have too much stuff on the laptop, since the storage filled up rather quickly, since the laptop came with a small SSD drive. When I played any game, the computer got very hot, and this happened with any and every game I played. After all of the drive and screen problems, the panels on the bottom popped off. I could put only one panel back on, the other wouldn’t. I also noticed that whenever the computer was put down, there wasn’t much support with the hinges. Shortly after, the hinges and the frame encasing the screen popped off, and the computer can’t stand on its own, I have to prop it up against an object. I also can’t close it, since a part got stuck and won’t budge. The audio on the computer has also had a downfall, with every audio piece being being filled with static. This was a huge waste and would not recommend this to anyone.

Bought this 7 months ago, the laptop over heats excessively if you play fortnite or league of legends for over an hour. A part of the screen's plastic casing of mine actually got loose due to the amount of heat this product depenses and the acer support told me they would fix it for 500 dollars! The same price i bought it for!. The laptop isnt even broken, the screen plastic corner got edged off from the heat. Worst thing is i have a warrenty on my laptop and they said they wouldnt cover it.

    great bones, TERRIBLE support

I purchased this laptop because it's got great components and was all that I wanted and then some. However, the system blue-screened 8 times within the first week. I called Acer support and was passed around internally 6 times on one call. Finally I was told that I needed to do a system restore as the first major step of troubleshooting after all I had done. I had had the PC out of the box for 1 week and they thought a system restore would fix the issue, which I know was a driver problem that CAME WITH THE PC from the factory. I was then told it could take up to an hour to do the system restore (which eventually failed after 25 minutes) that I would have to call back if I had more issues. I left a poor review of their support, then subsequently received a phone call on Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, while I was out to dinner, and the agent said they would call me the following day. I have still not received a phone call, and think I have solved the SSD driver issue on my own, but still would like to talk to support to confirm. They also refused to connect me to a supervisor when I asked 4 times. The agent kept saying they wanted me to give them a chance to fix the problem, after my 5th phone call and still zero results. Calling one more time this evening.

Disappointed - Black Screen/Does’t Boot Up

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am very disappointed. I have only had this laptop for a little over five months and today while using it, it stopped working. The screen went black. When I turned it off and back on, the keyboard lights up and then nothing happens. The computer will not boot up. I haven’t used the laptop much since purchasing it in mid-October 2019 but when I did, it was working fine. I have now been using it five days a week during the last month since I have been working remotely due to the pandemic. I have tired the various troubleshooting methods I found online and on Acer’s website. None have worked. I called Acer’s Customer Service but since they were already closed, I tried to submit a ticket. Their website just kept buffering when I clicked submit. I will try again in the morning. This is disappointing especially since this is a new laptop. It is also inconvenient and troublesome since I need a computer in order to do job from home.

For what it is, it hits you as a great little laptop. Unfortunately, much of its built-ins do not like recent upgrades from Windows. Within a week of getting it, the webcam stopped working. According to Geek Squad and Online reviews, this is Acer's driver problem and they have not upgraded it. So, one of the main reasons I bought this computer went out the window. When I attach webcams, it will only acknowledge one, which blocks me from using my OSB for video conferencing and more. 26 year ago, my first computer was ACER, and it was brilliant. However, quality went down. I have been told they are back up to really good, but I am very disappointed in the issues with this laptop.

It broke in less than 8 months

I have had this laptop for less than 8 months and it broke. It came with faulty drivers for the speakers that make them crackle and not work sometimes. Since I got it on a discount, I chose to just live with this fact. It stopped about five months into owning the laptop. I also have never been a fan of the super small storage size, but again I got it on a discount so I chose to live with the fact. What I am not happy with, is that after about 7.5 months of casual, every day use, the main wire to the display shorted out and the screen needed replacing. Unfortunately this happened right at the beginning of end of term exams and needed to be sent in. Acer wanted me to pay to ship it to them even though it was covered under a 1 year warrantee, and told me that if I did not package the laptop correctly they would not fix it because they could not be sure the damage did not take place in transit. Thankfully Geek Squad was able to take care of sending it in for repair. HOWEVER, when I got the laptop back from Acer, it came back more broken than when I originally sent it in. Yes the display wiring and screen were replaced but they destroyed my keyboard and locked me out of the device in the process. I had to send it back in to get it repaired and they will not refund me or provide me a replacement. The laptop functions decently for a cheaper gaming laptop option, but the structural issues and horrible customer support are not worth it. I regret buying this laptop

I've been working with computers since 1990 when my dad bought our first desktop. I went to school for computer science. I'm very proficient in most operating systems. In windows 10, official Nvidia drivers show 1080p. In Linux, whether using nouveau, Nvidia on any distro, even testing Wayland....I can't get higher than 766p. I've tested in cli as well, even rolling back to older kernels. This isn't a deal breaker imo but I hate when companies lie. Otherwise, it runs pretty well.

I bought this computer about a year ago expecting to be able to run small-medium sized games on it at a decent level, but all I've had from this laptop are micro-stutters and overall slowness. Most games I play, I have to use the lowest settings to even have a shot at getting 60 frames per second. Google Chrome even takes a while to load up most of the time without any other tabs open. It's just an overall slow computer... at least it is pretty low budget.

I received the laptop as a gift from my wife in 2019. In less than a year the letters S, O, backspace and a few other keys stop working. The keyboard is a solid piece so you cant just fix one key. Also the screen hinges are a terrible design easily breakable.

Bought this for playing World of Warcraft when I travel. The frame rate is very poor. It gave me a headache after about 15 minutes. It also hangs when performing some common Windows tasks. Look elsewhere if you intend to play high-end games.
