Many appreciate the backlit keyboard and ease of use, but some users note that the battery life could be improved and that the laptop can get warm and noisy during intensive use. Excellent Laptop for the Price (on sale for $650)

This is an excellent laptop for the price for what you're getting if you manage to get it on sale like I did (~$650) the internals are fast enough to play most modern games & the battery life is pretty decent. The only con I'd say is the display, this is where Acer cheaper out on. It's a pretty flimsy display & if you're like me, Acer will charge you $450 for a replacement screen. Don't do that, the replacement is extremely easy to do yourself, just find the correct screen replacement somewhere online for roughly $60 & do it yourself, unless you're in warranty. The display is plenty bright inside but outside you'll have issues. There's also issues when playing games with dark detailing in them such as the Sea of Thieves games, this proves to be a weak point for this laptop. Otherwise it is manageable.

I got this after just purchasing my work laptop because it wasn't able to handle the game I was playing. Fast start up! Battery life for my game is about 3 hr but with the smooth game play it seems like minutes. Keeping it plug in will kick the fan after awhile, fans a little loud but that's to be expected when playing games. Has a nice weight to it but doesn't really feel heavy. The outer shell feels a little flimsy on the back of the screen but with a decent screen size and light weight materials i can live with that, dont plan on wacking the back with a hammer anytime soon. Fits nice in my backpack with my working laptop so its convenient for travel. For on the go game play and just starting in pc games, I would definitely recommend this laptop. Not to mention the price is reasonable.

This is my 2nd purchase of this model, I actually get it for a business computer when in a pinch, system sets up and feels fast. Has ssd and good i5 cpu, specs match what I get for business plus this is flashy enough for laptop envy because its gamer orientated

My daughter purchased this laptop for the dedicated graphics card and this was the cheapest laptop with one. So far it seems to run all her games (mostly Minecraft mods) smoothly. The fan is a little loud.

My fiancee needed a laptop for work and for gaming at home and this one is the full package. She is running FFXIV on Ultra settings and editing work on photoshop simultaneously with zero problems. Add in the price point and it cannot be beat.

Very fast laptop and runs games very well. Can get 80 Fps from rainbow 6 siege on high graphics. Does need a good cooling pad. Fans on high are not very loud at all. Also has a interface for fan speed and performance pre installed.

Can't belief I bought this laptop for less than $700. It is super fast, and easy to upgrade the memory, NVMe, and add additional SSD or HHD. I have ZERO complaints about this computer.

My son bought this as his first gaming laptop. So far it's been surprisingly awesome. Graphics are decent, processor speeds are nice, and lots of space for games. Time will tell but as a starter unit it's doing really well so far.

Excellent design, minimum bloatware installed. Great performance, when plugged in or battery full, starts to diminish after unplugged. Keep it plugged in for max performance, overall great for a budget gaming laptop.

Awesome computer! Now I can play in ultra full graphics with no problem, but I recommend you to buy a good cooler to prevent it to burn because it gets pretty hot when GPU and processors are heavily required.

For the price I don't think you can beat this machine, I5-8300 is faster than the 15w I7's found in any laptops I could find for this price point, anything better with a decent graphics card was twice the price. Only downfall is this machine runs at 2.3ghz when unplugged from the wall, on AC power the boost turns on and will go up to 4.0ghz, so any CPU intensive tasks like video editing and gaming need AC power. I have been using to edit 4k video and it works great with Davinci Resolve!

Purchased two of these laptops for my children for Christmas. They are both pleased with how fast they are! They primarily play Minecraft with no problems. The only negative comment is how loud the fans are.

Got mine for $669. Very worth the price. Was surprised to learn the SSD was NVMe capable. This means lightning fast boot speeds because you aren't limited to SATA speeds. The display is pretty once you apply a calibrated color profile to windows, otherwise the display can look yellowed. Can be a bit dark in bright situations. This machine comes with an excellent temperature monitoring tool, as well as an empty 2.5inch bay for upgradeable storage. I added a WD Black 1TB hdd. Ram is 1x8gb DDR4-2666, with an additional slot for an upgrade. I would highly recommend adding another 8gb stick of ram to take advantage of the board's dual channel memory capabilities.

The Acer Nitro 5 recently received a much needed upgrade for its current rendition. After adding one of the latest 8th generation Intel Core I5’s and pairing it up with arguably the best bang for your buck NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti it makes a decently powerful unit for a low cost. Oh and it has a solid state drive! The design of the Nitro 5 is very eye pleasing. The lid is finished in a very dark brushed aluminum like material with slight angles that reflect the light in different ways when looking at the right angle. When the lid is closed the hinge is visible with a nice deep red accent featuring the “Nitro” line. After opening the lid that same red accent is show right below the “Acer” logo at the bottom of the screen marrying the “Acer Nitro” names together. Red and black are definitely the main theme with a red backlit keyboard and red print on keys. This laptop features some of the important specs with little stickers like most others do to let you know what’s inside. One thing I love about this laptop is the little but usable carrying case it comes with. Protection of the laptop is key when traveling so for that to be provided was appreciated however the fact the power brick cannot be fit inside with ease is a problem (Considering the battery life mentioned later). Overall a very easy pleasing gaming laptop that has hints of budget which should be expected at this price point. Now here is where the Nitro 5 really shines, especially with its new features! Setting up the laptop was a breeze if you have a little knowledge about PC’s in general. As it sits the Nitro 5 now comes with the Intel I5-8300H which features equal specs of many 7th gen Intel I7’s. My Nitro 5 also came with a 256 GB Solid State Drive which was great to see. SSD’s really quicken up any computer, even those with lesser specs but having it paired up with something so powerful really shows how quick they are. Something to note is that after the system uses its space on the SSD its basically comes out as 200 GB of usable storage. Gaming or video editing this is not a ton so adding another drive is probably recommended and VERY easy! Two covers on the back features slots for adding another hard drive and adding RAM. I threw in a 1TB SSHD I had around and it accepted it without issues. The memory or RAM comes with a single 8GB stick but can be changed out for up to 32GB total. Graphics are powered by the onboard Intel 630 for everyday use or the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR5 dedicated video memory for more demanding tasks. This graphics card runs just about anything fairly well. It’s not top of the line but packs a punch for sure! The 1080p screen is very nice and something I really enjoyed about this computer. No glare and crisp enough to really take advantage of most programs and games. Other features include typically USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, a USB Type C 3.1 port, a traditional Ethernet port, and SD card slot (Missing on many laptops these days!), and HDMI as well as headphone jack. Battery life was a little lackluster on this machine with normal usage coming in around 5 hours of screen on time and under a little load (Video Editing) around 3.5-4 hours. Heavy gaming, I would assume would be much less so using it plugged in would be a good idea. I am very happy with the performance of the Nitro 5! Pros: - 8th Gen Intel I5-8300H - 1080p LG IPS Screen - 256 GB SSD - 8 GB of DDR4 Memory - Easy Expandability! (Hard Drive and RAM) - Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5 - 2×2 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi - Carrying Case Cons: - Fingerprint magnet (Outside lid) - Fans at higher speeds (To be expected) - Battery Life Overall I would really recommend this laptop for anyone interested in something with very good specs to get into gaming or something that needs a powerful machine to run.

We have been using an apple computer mostly due to the security of the app store, for years. I have to say that this solid state drive and on the Acer came at a great price and it works reliably and well. It seems well to be a well built machine. And it looks nice too. If you are OCD the smudges from your hand oils on the nice black finish will drive you batty, but that doesn't effect performance. So far this computer handles all of the needs of our kids homework and my projects very well. This is my first Acer, and so far.... so good, though it's only been a month or so. We will need to get past the free anti-virus time period to truly tell, but I'm hopeful all will be well.
