Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent performance and large screen size as major strengths of the Nitro 5 gaming laptop. Positive feedback also highlights the good graphics, RAM, keyboard, and overall value for the price. However, some users mention that the battery life could be improved, and the laptop's weight and potential for fan noise are recurring concerns. While some users find the laptop runs warm, others report it as easy to use and upgrade.

Bought this laptop and immediately had to return it as the keyboard was faulty. Now after two months the keyboard has become defective to the point of not turning on because the power button is part of the keyboard. Great when it works but doesn’t last long. Disappointed.

So right out of the gate, this laptop is quick. It is probably one of the fastest booting laptops I have every owned. Under 1 minute and the machine is up and running with no lag or delay. It is your standard Windows 10 setup, so won't go much into detail there, as most people looking at this machine will now what Windows 10 brings to the table. The screen is larger then most laptops today, which great for gaming as well as non-gaming work. Multiple USB ports to add your headphones, external mouse, and other needs. I haven't pushed it too far yet on battery, but the battery life isn't bad for a powerful machine like this. modest sized power supply, for the laptop. comes with a soft sleeve to protect the laptop while it is in your backpack or other carrying around. This is going to be a PERFECT system for the gamer going to college or traveling. So far tested multiple STEAM based games, with no problems or warnings on compatibility or not meeting requirements. Simple WiFi setup, and great performance.

From unboxing this laptop to playing Mass effect andromedan, I have been nothing but pleased. There's actually almost no drag when connected to the television via HDMI and my Astro controller connects to it with ease as well. and then of course that's all my other basic computer functions that is done lightning quick. If you don't have one of these get one of these, quickly.

Great Value - A true entry-level gaming laptop

If you’re looking for a 17-inch gaming laptop that will allow you to enjoy all the latest games, but price is of the upmost importance, then this laptop truly is perfect. While it won’t crank out the highest frame rates in the most demanding games, it will maintain a strong 60 frames per second at medium settings for most games. The laptop is future proof because it offers the latest 9th generation Intel processor. There is also a lot of physical space to add additional solid-state hard drives and more RAM. The laptop handles my favorite games with ease, such as Star Wars: Battle Front II and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Even though the power settings and fan speeds are cranked all the way up, the system stays physically cool. It doesn’t get hot when sitting on my lap. A couple of other notes include the screen and keyboard layout. The screen does a good job reproducing colors. It doesn’t measure up to the higher end models, but combined with the screen’s brightness, the colors are good. In terms of the keyboard, it took awhile for me to get used to the placement of the arrow keys under the number pad. I’m used to the “0” key extending out from under the “1” key. On this laptop, the “0” key stops short and instead, the right arrow key sits under the “1” key. Again, I struggled at first, but got used to it over time. If the system offered additional RAM for both the video card and system memory for the same price, it may have earned 5 stars. But then again, this laptop probably wouldn’t be such a bargain. As is, it’s truly a solid entry-level gamer laptop that will get any gamer off and running.

Acer is a brand that I’m gaining more and more respect for with regards to their growing line of budget gaming laptops. Some might call them, “entry level,” which would be an accurate assessment when comparing them to “higher-end” gaming laptops. However, when talking about this Acer Nitro 5 - 17.3” Gaming Laptop, I’d say there is a bit more to this ‘budget gaming laptop’ than meets the eye. One of the key aspects of these types of laptops is to make them affordable, and yet give the consumer the basic components necessary to run a wide variety of gaming titles released today, and run them well. Based on my own personal experience, I’d say this Acer Nitro does just that. As far as style and appearance, this Acer Nitro 5 is a sleek, modern-looking machine. It’s brushed ‘metallic’ matte exterior chassis, narrow bezel around the display, black and red color scheme, backlit keypad with highlighted WASD, arrow keys, and track pad, this gaming laptop just looks cool. A feature I really find useful is Acer’s Nitro Sense with CoolBoost Technology, which allows you to customize and control the fan output and battery power of the laptop. Particularly beneficial during extended gaming sessions. Although I would still like to see more than the 8GB of RAM this machine has, the 9th Gen Intel Quad-Core i5 processor makes multitasking that much more efficient, with faster downloads, installs; and being able to have several websites active while watching videos or listening to music, all at the same time without any noticeable lag or distortion, which makes for a good all-around experience. The 512GB solid-state drive is decent enough, as far as storage goes, but again, I’d rather see a 1 TB hard drive on this machine, especially if you’re planning on downloading several of the newer released gaming titles to play on this laptop, and want some extra storage room for other stuff. This Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop features a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card with up to 4gb of dedicated graphics, which you can definitely see, feel, and hear when gaming. The 17.3” 1080p Full HD display renders bright crisp images, with stunning resolution showing incredible detail. Of particular note is the “up to 7 hours of battery life” which should be more than enough. After running a benchmark test for Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers on high graphics settings, its performance was rated at Extremely High with a score of 9671. No lag, no stuttering, no glitches, with flawless sound and crystal-clear clarity during the sample gameplay testing. Rather impressive. To further try out this Acer Nitro, I installed and played me some Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft. Both games performed quite adequately on high settings with my chosen sound and video options enabled. During basic gameplay and while engaged in graphically intensive dungeon boss fights, the laptop did just what it was supposed to do, and didn’t seem to overheat to any noticeable degree, but I went ahead and customized my fan and battery usage with NitroSense’s CoolBlast settings anyway. Of course, you will hear the increased sound of the fans running, but I didn’t find it overly distracting or annoying. With a headset on, even less so. Would I recommend this Acer Nitro 5 - 17.3” Gaming Laptop? Absolutely!

The Acer Nitro 5 is a beautifully engineering gaming laptop. It has a huge screen, backlit keys, and the rest of the shell of the laptop is clearly designed for airflow, to keep it cool. This doesn't take away from the look of the laptop though, in fact, it looks very sleek. If considering getting an SSD or not, go with the SSD, you won't be disappointed. With a startup from a powered off state taking less than 20 seconds, it is a dream to work with. I no longer try to keep my laptop on and waste battery just to avoid a restart. It will play an current games reasonably well, but won't compete with a high-end desktop, as is to be expected. This is a great price for a lot of power and style. *Do note that, as is the case with many new laptops, this unit does not come with a CD/DVD drive.
