My Christmas present arrived early. I got a new PC. I got an Acer Predator G9-791. Though I have historically bought DELL computers for my home use, I liked the specs on this computer. I liked that it has a 512 gigabyte solid-state drive for the operating system so it boots up fast and a large 1 terabyte hard drive that will be large enough as my data storage only seems to grow as in more pictures, more spreadsheets, more music. (The Leading Edge PC that I bought in 1984 had a 10 megabyte hard drive. The combination of drives in my new PC are 157,286 times larger.) My old DELL XPS L501X PC started out with Windows 7. As it started to age and slow down, I upgraded it to Windows 10 in hopes of resuscitating it. That improved some things, but it was still slow. I am not sure why PCs seem to slow down with age. My guess is that each operating system tries to do more on our behalf, but the original processing power remains the same. In addition, our perception of "what is considered slow" probably changes. All I know is that this PC seems fast today. Ask me again in 7 years. With both machines connected to my wireless network, my DELL XPS can process 35.05 Mbps. My new Acer Predator processes 136.44 Mbps. The Acer PC comes with some performance tools that may help me keep it running at peak performance. Scott has been a very good boy this year. Thank you, Santa Claus. Christmas is alive in my household.

This computer is super fast when using vector graphics to compose illustrations. I also love the large screen which makes working on this computer much more enjoyable. The Predator is also great for data analysis and is much quicker when working with large datasets. I also like all of the USB ports and the number pad when typing. The fan for dust control is also a really nice feature, as is the location of the ventilation system. It is great that it is not on the bottom of the computer so it doesn't overheat. A true workhorse!

Acer computers are garbage! This laptop was barely one year old. Never left my office (I don’t travel with it). The HDMI port completely stopped working, so I can no longer connect to an external monitor. Acer Warranty Support made me send the computer (at my cost) to their repair center down near Houston. They had it almost two weeks, during which time I was completely without it. They sent it back claiming they had fixed it but they didn’t, but they didn’t. The HDMI port still doesn’t work. I know my monitor and cable are fine because I can take them out of this piece of garbage and plug right into my wife’s computer and they work just great. STAY AWAY FROM ACER! THEIR COMPUTERS ARE JUNK, AND THEIR WARRANTY SUPPORT IS A JOKE!!!!

One of the best laptops I have ever owned. As fast as any gaming desktop. Very satisfied!
