Best Laptop of 2023?

PROs:
Beautiful bright mini-led screen
16:10 aspect ratio is a treat (haven't had a screen like this in decades!)
Minimal vendor software bloat (Acer does not even have a driver install tool)
Innovative cooling solution with lower noise than most gaming laptops
Build quality better than usual (highest of any Acer I've seen)
Keyboard feels good (I'm not picky on keyboards)
Performance is strong (trades blows with my 5800x/3090 desktop)
Aesthetics don't scream GAMER LAPTOP, but has subtle RGB bling
CONs:
Battery life just okay
Screen sits a little far away
Cooling system noise is higher pitched (this may bother younger ears)
Trackpad is oddly sized and placed (use tap to click!)
Heavy, uncomfortable to have in your lap (mainly due to its odd feet)
Minimum acceptable number of ports, a trend for gaming laptops (why not have ports in the front?)
Replacing parts and deep cleaning will be more involved than usual (there is a teardown on YouTube, it’s like disassembling a smartphone or a handheld)
NOTE:
RAM is not soldered, I saw some reports of two 1 TB drives in RAID 0 but this configuration has one 2 TB Micron NVMe and I don’t see any RAID options in the barebones BIOS.
COMMENT:
Believe it or not this is the first laptop I’ve ever bought with my own money (usually I'm given laptops). I am happy overall and I hope this review was useful.

My display when showing HDR videos are overblown in both Google Chrome or MS Edge. Firefox doesn't support HDR videos. I have reset Windows back to factory completely clean. Also when scrolling on youtube, the video would flash as well. Updated the drivers for Intel & Nvidia. Reverted back to the drivers from Acer as well. Doesn't do it with an external HDR TV.
Contacted Acer support and they are completely clueless

Tested and returned within a day. This laptop has a ton of nice specs but in an inefficient package.
Booted quick and minimal bloatware to address.
Display is nice at max brightness but text gets blurry on dimmer settings.
Keyboard was just ok to type on if you enjoy something like a Surface Pro size.
Track pad was smooth.
Software didn't seem to go any quicker than my 6-year-old GX-792. Also seemed to hang for a second when starting a program. Not long, but enough to be noticeable.
PredatorSense needed to be updated and restarted a couple times to control everything. Once fully operational and set how I preferred, it continually had scaling issues after using a full-screen program that wouldn't resolve until I restarted PS.
For games, I only tested Cyberpunk on it, but CPU shot to 80C just on the loading screen and hovered between 85-90 on medium settings (96 on higher settings), fans on max, and using a cooling pad. Changing modes through PredatorSense and lowering in game settings did nothing to cool it further.
The fan noise is incredibly loud while not seeming to actually do anything for thermals. After 10 minutes of playtime, the entire top of the chassis was hot and keyboard was uncomfortable to use. At least while idling, the temperatures were normal, which means they most likely applied the liquid metal correctly unlike a few others this year.
Acer missed the mark trying to make all this hardware work in such a thin machine. If I wanted to waste some time undervolting and tinkering with settings, maybe it would be worth it, but I expect an expensive machine to work better straight from the box.

This laptop is fantastic. There isn't much online about it, and one of the main reviews didn't use the 'turbo' mode when testing. I can assure you it's in the top 3-5 laptops in today in terms of performance. The Micro LED screen is awesome: looks like an OLED, with occasional ghosting that find mostly goes away when you have it set to lower, more sane brightness. Keyboard has really grown on me, I like it a lot and I'm very picky about keyboard. It's membrane but very snappy, with a solid but completely quiet click and a strong return, which feels nearly mechanical. Same with the track-pad. It's more sensitive to tap-to-click than most track-pads so I'm adjusting to occasional extra clicks that are my fault. I was worried about this at first, but have now adjusted my own habits and things are working smoothly now. It's heavy, and due to the all aluminum solid construction, can be difficult to pickup with one hand. I recommend always using two hands to pull it out of your backpack or sleeve, then keeping a hand under to hold the weight. Don't do the single-hand pinch with this beast. It vents heat well, for extended gaming sessions. I got some little popup feet to give a slight angle and that has given me something to grip when I carry it, and a small boost to airflow. l highly recommend this laptop. You are getting a premium build, similar to Razer, at a much better price.

Beast of a labtop ( needs bios 1.07)

Labtop is just a beast !! Everything about it screams premium. Before i go further labtop has tons of issues from screen , freezes , hangs however once you update the bios to ghe latest 2024 bios 1.07 seems to reslove all issues . The screen is simply amazing !! The HDR once tuned is simply amazing . Bought the 2024 oled blade 16 , while nice doesnt have the grunt power that this labtop has . Again you need to fine tune it . Also some users state their temps are high , im sorry mabe you have a bad unit with some paste issues , but this unit never exceeds total CPU package of 73 degrees even under heavy loads . Only time spy extreme raised temps to 80 degrees . Sound is simply amazing . Not one labtop except the g14 has this audio quality . Again if you dont update the bios you will have tons of issues . Amazing labtop well worth the price !!

This device is very sturdy and you can tell it was thoughtfully designed, though the choice of putting a Intel processor in this thin of a device was a mistake because it heats up like no tomorrow which in the long run makes me question the device’s longevity. The reason why I am questioning the device’s longevity is due to a issue that was caused by the device heat which is the membrane under the W key has failed and is being to stick after being held for some time.
So far due to that issue I made a ticket with Acer and they replaced things that didn’t needed to be fixed such as the SSD they checked the keyboard and said there were no problem found… funny enough when I had the same issue with my Lenovo Laptop they replaced the keyboard on the spot… that brings me to another thing Acer’s lack of proper support in the 21st-century compared to their rivals Acer barely updates the device drivers and does not provide a box to ship the device to the repair center unlike Lenovo, but they do provide a shipping label.
Another issue is when I tried to buy a extended warranty for my device from Acer they didn’t not let me due to the fact the computer was bought from Best Buy so beware of that…

This is a nice looking gaming laptop . Very slim and super powerful.. the screen brightness is awesome 1000 nits . And the mini leds give you nice color and contrast. Rtx 4090 lets you play game at max settings .. the only thing i can complain is sound.. not the greatest one out there..

The computer is okay, too expensive for what you get. They do not supply recovery media, and do not have it available for download. They want to send you a USB drive through the mail with recovery media only they never have them in stock and will not ship it. How does a computer company run out of USB drives? Why does a computer company not offer recovery downloads? Also, drivers, firmware and software have not been updated since May. I looked at their other computers, drivers rarely updated after release.
