This really looks the part of a gaming laptop. Before you even lift the lid, the iridescent accents catch the eye, but once it's open, it's really eye-grabbing. The keyboard lighting effects are awesome. You can tailor them with several different preset effects, and you can sync them to your games. The screen itself is also incredible. Very thin borders, so the laptop itself is only as big as it absolutely has to be to accommodate this screen. But still, 16" is a lot of real estate. The picture itself is bright, clear, and crisp. One of the better screens I've seen recently on a laptop. The graphics card handles games with ease, though it did not seem to handle streaming HD movies as well. I tried a couple of different streaming apps and neither worked great. YMMV. But the game graphics were super, and the fan noise was only medium loud. A lot of laptops tend to sound like jet planes taxiing to the runway when you crank up the graphics, but this was manageable. I'm not going to say it's quiet, but not so loud as to be distracting. Aside from the lighting effects, the keyboard is quite good as well. The size of the case allows plenty of room to spread the keys out properly, so I never felt like I was in danger of hitting multiple keys or having to adjust my normal keystrokes. It's not very "clicky" though, so if that's what you like, you're not going to get it here. I happen to like it though. The only real "issue" I've found with it is the fingerprint reader. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time, I ended up having to sign in with my PIN. Overall, I'd say this is a very solid choice. Good customization options, and not a lot of bloatware. Good pick for gaming but maybe not streaming.

The Acer - Predator Triton 500 SE 16" 2560x1600 165Hz Laptop with Intel 11th Gen i7 processor, GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and 512GB SSD is an absolute beast despite its relatively small size. The 16” screen is a bit small if you are serious about gaming (if you’re considering purchasing this laptop, I’m betting it is likely that you fall into this category) but this isn’t really a problem if you’re planning on using the built-in HDMI output to connect the laptop to a larger monitor which is exactly what I did. This laptop actually replaced an older home-built desktop system I’ve had for years that was past its prime but still relatively decent. I’ve always been more of a desktop PC person myself and was a tiny bit skeptical about how well a laptop could replace my desktop system, but I sure am glad I gave it a shot because the Acer Predator Triton is truly amazing and it surpassed all of my expectations. In addition to the HDMI output mentioned above, the other built-in feature I especially like is the ethernet port. Like I said, I replaced a desktop system with this laptop which means I already had a wired connection available to use. I do not have WiFi 6 (802.11 ax) at my home (yet) so having the ability to run a wired connection was important to me although it should also be noted that this laptop comes with not one, but TWO Thunderbolt 4 ports. This means that even if it didn’t have the built-in ethernet port, you could purchase an inexpensive USB-C dock or hub with an ethernet port and connect it via one of the two Thurderbolt 4 ports for a wired connection. Since I like having multiple monitors, I actually bought something just like this which contained three additional USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. I then plugged in an additional monitor I had to the HDMI port and my wired keyboard and mouse into two of the hub’s USB ports. The laptop immediately recognized the hub, automatically installed it and the applicable drivers, and within no time, the secondary monitor as well as the wired mouse and keyboard were all up and running. If I wanted, I even could have simply bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable to hook up the secondary monitor but I wanted the additional USB 3.0 ports as well. It cannot be overstated just how great it is to have two Thunderbolt 4 ports built-in since they really open up the doors to so much expansion and flexibility for the system. The built-in hard drive only has a capacity of 512GB but again, this can easily be expanded through the use of the other built-in ports on this system. When it comes to actual performance, I can’t imagine any systems being much better than this laptop. It handles games with ease and far outperforms the desktop system it replaced. I have various other systems at my home but this Acer Predator Triton is now my go-to system for gaming. Overall, the Acer - Predator Triton 500 SE 16" 2560x1600 165Hz Laptop with Intel 11th Gen i7 processor, GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and 512GB SSD is an incredible gaming laptop and I highly recommend it!

Overall, the Predator Triton 500 is an excellent laptop for today's gamer. Thanks to Nvidia's 3060 we finally have a stable laptop for 2K resolution gaming. The most impressive feature is the 2560x1600 screen, which is not a common aspect ratio but I seriously appreciate the square form factor over the common 1440. Physical Features: I absolutely love the all metal case, it feels premium to the touch and looks beautiful. The keyboard is very satisfying to use and the trackpad is enjoyable to glide your finger across. The only strange thing is the placement of a fingerprint reader right on the trackpad. It doesn't bother me, but it's definitely not a normal place for a finger print reader. Hardware: You definitely notice the power of the RTX 3060 GPU especially with the Intel i7 supporting the processing. Included is 16GB of RAM which is starting to become the bare minimum for gaming in 2021. Thanks to ACER, we have a beautiful 2K resolution display which will push your gaming to a new level. One place I feel is lacking is the included storage space. The 512 SSD is fantastic for playing 3-4 of your favorite AAA games but as the gaming industry moves forward, the minimum space for games is slowly becoming 100-200GB per game. I would have liked to see a 500GB or 1TB storage drive included inside just for games. Software: This laptop is ready to play right out of the box. Minimal set up using WINDOWS 10 so there's almost no downtime between turning the laptop on and playing your latest video game.

Ultimately Had To Return (Dead Pixels)

The Good: The chassis felt excellent. The build quality was nice, and the keyboard felt good to use. The trackpad clicks felt excellent and it responded nicely. The Bad: The screen was a bit disappointing. The picture was clear but the colors seemed a bit washed out. Also, the viewing angles weren't particularly good. My unit came with one or two dead pixels so I opted to return it. The Middle: Fans were a bit whiny and annoying to listen to under load. The speakers were mediocre...they were loud enough but produced flat sound with no bass. I'm not sure the 3060 in this model can really keep up with the screen resolution when gaming current titles. If you can wait for the 3070 model, you might like it better.

This model is a little expensive for a laptop but has amazing travel sized performance. I use it everyday to game and the graphics are impeccable. It has a customizable led keyboard and a lot of performance and preference settings that are super customizable as well. Worth every penny I spent.

A most excellent configuration, as is! Gen 4 M.2 SSD reaching above 6500 read speed marks on Crystal Benchmarks. Outstanding crystal clear clarity and screen density. Extremely responsive computational results, with Wi-Fi 6 or using Ethernet. 2nd M.2 slot is not accessible, although other comments / reviews affirm there is a 2nd slot available for expansion. Outstanding product overall and in specific.

Do NOT purchase if you're looking for durability

Was great while it lasted... Runs smoothly, strong enough to run several programs at once, and I do love the subtle holographic look. I used this laptop for less than a year and a half before one day it wouldn't power on and needed to be taken in to the geek squad. It turned out that it was completely bricked, out of absolutely nowhere, and was unable to be salvaged. I was somehow ineligible for a replacement despite being under a protection plan, and ended up buying a more trustworthy brand with the same specs. This laptop had a lot of potential, but for the price point, I definitely expected more than a year and a half of use out of it. It runs well (despite the built-in audio being horrendous) and is pretty powerful, but I would NOT recommend this laptop or this brand if you're looking for something dependable and durable.

2 new motherboards in 6 months

I purchased this in July 2021. It's a great design, nice and compact. However, 6 weeks after receiving it the motherboard died. It is still under warranty so I was able to take it in, but it took 2 months to fix. It worked for about 2 months and once again the motherboard died. I do NOT keep this computer on for extended periods. I do NOT play video games or crypto mining. I make films and animation - sometimes this take a lot of processing power, but I did not use this on any major projects (most because I didn't have it long enough). So it is extremely surprising that it had such a serious problem twice. I was told it would be hard to find a new motherboard and apparently I cannot get a replacement computer. So I am at a loss as to what to do. I think this is a regular issue because in the last 6 months the price on this item dropped by about 25%.

Excellent performance until it hit the 4-month mark. The left fans began to rattle, subtly at first, gradually increasing until I couldn't even hear over the speakers on full blast. I cleaned the fans, but that did nothing to decrease the noise. And then one day the screen would not turn on. I sent it into Acer, only to have it returned a month later with a) replacement fans that still click, and b) the fingerprint reader no longer works (even after extensive troubleshooting). Of course, my only recourse is to send it back, leaving me without the ability to work for another month. I'm heartbroken. I saved up to buy a laptop that would last and cannot afford to replace it.
