Julie Taymor has created what I think is the most wonderful movie of this short century so far. Thrilling, thought provoking, entertaining, sad, this movie has it all & more. The story of two lovers set in the tumultuous 1960's follows Jude & his chance meeting with Maxwell's sister Lucy (yes, all the characters are names used in Beatles songs). If you have memories of the period you will love this film. If you're a history buff you will love this film. If you like the Beatles you will love this film. If you just want a nice romantic musical you will love this film. I don't want to spoil anything but I will say the rooftop scene (where they recreate the Beatles impromptu live free show atop the Abbey Road Studios) at the end brings me to tears each time I see it. Also the surprise cameos throughout are a true joy. You may recognize some of these kids as there obvious talent has helped their careers since this film. Als, much of the singing was done ive on the set as opposed to the usual ADR after the fact. With the entire of the Beatles music catalog available, director julie Taymor decided early on not to compromise the music for the sake of her story. The script went out the window when a challenge presented itself and the film was modified to fit the song rather than change the music. I love this movie so much I have given multiple copies away to many of my friends. THIS is something you want in YOUR "permanent" collection. Trust me.

From the first moment until the last you're pulled into this Beatles wonderland. The characters grow throughout the movie and you like each one more than the other. The music is sung with heart and soul and is good enough to make you want the soundtrack.

This is a journey through a period of time I experienced as a teenager. As a love story it's excellent. As a musical it's wonderful. As a documentary it's interesting. The guest star cameos are a delight, as is the adaptation of the story to the music. Julie Taymor has created a masterful film which I feel is the finest film so far in this century. I buy it for my friends & family & keep multiple copies myself for lending. 4 out of 4 stars. If you love the Beatles then you WILL like this film. If you were around in the 1960's you will cry at the parallels depicted within. I so wanna spoil & reveal all, but i'll only say that script would go out the window when it came to the music. Buy it at this great price. You won't be disappointed.
