Wouldn't stay connected after 5 minutes.

Lightning blew out my DSL/Router (Netgear from AT&T) so naturally I went the cheap route, saving $20 and got this DSL/Router. Problem is, everytime it connected, and went through the AT&T spiel, I'd get great internet for all of 5 minutes, then flashing internet light. So, I cycled power, checked all settings and connections... Same thing, 5 minutes and nothing. Drove all the way back to Best Buy and picked up the N300 Netgear DSL/Router for $20 more and it hasn't failed yet! So save $20 in gas and grab this the the NETGEAR one the first time!

    Sensitive line noise

I have Centurytel 1.5M DSL, most recent technology out here in the weeds. I had to exchange my first GT784WN because the wireless kept dropping out and could not pin point the problem. The second GT784WN the wireless so far has been very stable, but the DSL kept dropping out. After a few questions to tech support, I found out what to look for. By coincident when the phone rang or a call is made, the errors would pop up in the WAN status and shortly the DSL connection would drop out. It came down to the phone DSL filter was not strong enough for the sensitive modem. I installed a new DSL filter the errors was far less, so I doubled the new filter with the old filter, the errors is very small and now the modem seems to be stable. My old Actiontec GT724R never dropped out the 3+ years I have used it. I will be looking for another wireless DSL modem if this modem becomes unstable again. I would say, you are gambling if you purchase this modem.

Great modem/wireless router for ATT DSL

Currently have ATT DSL and was using the 2Wire modem/router. The 2Wire modem/router was starting to go out and I replaced it with the Netgear 7550. The Netgear was awful and the wireless was absolutely useless. Read the reviews on the Actiontec GT784WN and gave it a try. Setup was easy in less than 30 minutes. The hardest part of the setup was figuring out what my att network ID and password was. Once you have that, than everything was simple. The wireless range is much better than the 2Wire and Netgear modem/router that is recommeded by ATT.

Perfect for CenturyLink in SW Florida

Just configured for Centurylink DSL in Fort Myers, FL. Select Earthlink to get most setting programmed then: 1. go to Advanced setup 2. go to WAN settings 3. Select RFC 1483 (dynamic or static IP) I had a static IP so I entered the static IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS1, and DNS2 that Centurylink provides (you can also log into the old router, I had a Westell, and look them up). 4. Save and reboot 5. Log back in 6. Go to Wireless and set your SSID and WPA2 security code (and optionally set the wifi channel if you don't want auto). That's it. I just waited a couple of minutes for it to sync to the head end DSL circuit, then waited approx 1/2 minute for the Internet LED to come on and I was done. This was a 10 Mbit DSL service and I got 7.3 down and the normal .68 up speed.

I've been using this router for over a month now and it works great! I'm not too technical about setting up networks but this router made it easy. It automatically connected to my ISP and in no time at all I was online. My WiFi speed is significantly faster now than it was with my old router - even with various laptops, tablets, phones and two iPads all connected at once!

I purchased this unit to replace an failing Speedstream 5100 DSL modem I had in place since 2004. Great unit for the price. I like the feature that the configuration is mostly automatic and accomplished without a software instaltion. I highly recommend this product.

I purchased the Actiontec in early August when, after upgrading my Verizon DSL speed from 3mb to 5mb, my 2-wire gateway started cutting out. I have three Macs and an iPod touch on my home wifi network. It took me about 20 minutes to set up the Actiontec and it has been reliable with no problems in the 4 months since I bought it. Strangely enough, I couldn't find the Actiontec on the BestBuy website, but I found it in their store near Columbus Circle.

Quick DSL setup, unable to com w HP network printe

Replacing an old Actiontec GT704WG on Frontier DSL using the automatic setup was quick and needed no adjusting of settings, but Actiontec did specify a computer hardwire ethernet connection for the initial setup, which then proceeded to the wireless setup, which was also straightforward. The best established DSL speed equaled that of the GT704WG, about 2.8 Mbps, with max allowable on the modem setup at 3.3/ 0.86 Mbps. (Frontier charges a premium for 3 to 5 Mbps, but the best anyone gets is about 2.8 Mbps in this area.) Self-reported broadband stats were consistent and good over a 5 day span. Connecting to wireless Windows 7 HP computer and a Windows XP Pro HP laptop were both straightforward. Connecting to an HP 4600 network printer through a T base 10/100 ethernet port was fruitless. While the GT704WG had (and has) absolutely no problem connecting to this printer using the same cable, etc, the GT784WN fails to recognize this printer. Clearing the address and leaving the printer in the DHCP mode to allow the router to assign the IP address or assigning a fixed address made no difference. After briefing Actiontec's support on what I did, their tech rep BPAM replied, "Honestly no idea. The only difference I can think of is that the ports on the GT784WN unit are gigabit ports, they may be too fast for the printers [sic] ethernet connection. Currently there is no programming to lower the port speeds to 100 full duplex however, my guess is that the NIC in the printer simply can't negotiate the faster speeds." So there you have it. If the ports on your equipment are only rated to 100 Mbps, forget connecting to a GT784WN? What is curious the GT784WN recognizes and connects to a Brother MFC-9420CN without any problems. My solution: It is easier and lower cost to replace this new Actiontec modem with a competitive model than it is to replace the Laserjet 4600. Side note: This modem utilizes only the 2.4 GHz spectrum.

    Terrific product, flawless performance

We purchased this product to replace the modem/router supplied by AT&T with our DSL service. With the AT&T router, we were constantly "bumped" off the internet and experienced frequent and frustrating interruptions of our internet use. We have had the Actiontec router now for 2 months, and we absolutely love it. Now we use the net without interruption or diconnects, I only wish that we had made the switch sooner.

I bought this to replace the actiontech modem and Belkin router I had. My internet kept cutting out with that combo. I have not lost internet connection or connectability of my wireless devices once since making this change. This was a welcome change.

    Died just after 30 days

The product was easy to setup and worked great for just over 30 days. I contacted Ationtec for support and got someone I could barely understand. They were stepping me through their normal steps and said that would fix my problem, which was the router would drop the wireless connection constantly. The wireless disconnecting is a known issue with them, or so they told me. This did not resolve my problem, so they had me to reset the router back to its default settings. My problem got worse after that and I could not even get the router to connect to my ISP. They did authorize a replacement product and sent me to Level 2 support. Level 2 support was great in the fact I could understand what they were saying (American Support). They first wanted me to pay to return the old product to them. I had to complain about paying return shipping on a product that was barely 30 days old and the "Supervisor" approved sending me a return label for free. I then decided I had enough "fun" with Actiontec and contacted BestBuy to return it. I am just happy I am a Silver Rewards customer with BestBuy and will be returning the product to BestBuy.

Bought this in July of 2012. Lasted till November when the wireless portion went out. Tried resetting and reentering configuration to no avail. First tech assist told me to do what I have already done. Told him such and he gave me the escalation number. Called them and was sent a refurbished one. Had to pay for return of mine. The refurbished went out in one month. Called escalation number and explained problem. They sent me another refurbished model with a new power supply. This unit lasted only one week. Have to do several power ups before it will sync to DSL ISP. Have called again, Dec 26, and have informed them to send me a brand new one and not a refurbished one. We'll see how long this one lasts and if I get a brand new model.

    Wireless WiFI not working

Wow so much potential, but doesn’t work as advertised. It connects slowly and sporadically. Using an Ethernet cable to the computer works great, but I bought it for the WiFi part which fails in connecting and does not work well at all. Upgraded the firmware which caused problems, so I downgraded the firmware and the problems stopped for a three minutes, then I was connecting slowly again. I do not recommend this and I am returning it. Tech support is not helpful!

Bought this unit in July 2012. Had lots of problems continually. Contacted tech support. They said the problem wasnt thier router. However they did offer to send me a replacement, but told me it wasn't going to change anything. I declined and continued looking for other sources of the problem. Finally just failed to even function on 10/30/12. I would not reccomend this unit. Spend the extra bucks and get the Netgear N600. It's not worth the headaches.
