Admission will make you laugh and cry, more crying

While Tina Fey does a lot of comedy, this movie isn't quite the comedy you're expecting. It's got plenty of funny moments, but it's definitely more of a drama than not. Fey portrays Portia who is an admission officer at Princeton. She's been doing the same thing for years, living with the same guy for years, and trying to make some connection to her mother for years. Portia's world gets curve after curve- her boss is retiring- with the possibility of making her the new boss, her 'love life' is falling apart, and well her mother is still her wary to connect mother- and then John (Rudd) introduces her to a young graduate from an alternate school to be/Princeton hopeful that he believes to be her son. Portia struggles with that reality and with John's persistence that the student is made for Princeton, as well as developing feelings for John. ( I won't give anything else away from there) The movie may be slow at times but it's well worth it. The DVD itself isn't filled with much extra. There's a 12 minute 'behind-the-scenes' 'preview', called "Early Admission with Tina Fey & Paul Rudd' which has other cast and crew members in it as well. The only other bonus to the DVD is some previews for other DVDs/shows/movies. Set up includes English and Spanish spoken language, and English, Spanish, and French subtitles. I have a tendency to collect all the DVDs that I can, so I need the DVD regardless of the features. However if you're someone who doesn't collect DVDs or needs a bunch of bonus features this DVD probably isn't for you. (Although I do recommend the movie regardless!)

Admission was a really solid movie that didn't know what it wanted to be. Instead of trusting the source material (i.e. the superior novel on which it was based), the movie tried to go the Rom-Com route and pretty much failed. That said, if you have a child applying to college (or - better yet - who has recently applied and already been accepted somewhere), this is a perfect send-up of the admissions process: the good, the bad and the ugly. The Quest school kids are great, as is Lily Tomlin as Tina Fey's mom. Even the admissions selections scenes (with Wallace Shawn) are delightful. If the film had hewed closer to the book and just really looked at the inherent drama of getting into a school like Princeton, it would have been a four-star film for sure. Definitely worth a watch on DVD. Only one "making of" extra, which was very good but left me wanting to know more.

Make the bowl of popcorn, get out the wine or whatever is your pleasure, and then sit down to cuddle with your wife (or girlfriend) for this movie. Sure to get you chick flick credits!

I expected a little better movie when I picked up Admission. Some top name actors, but nothing special about it. It should have been funnier considering it had Paul Rudd and Tina Fey.

Bought this for my daughter. She saw this in the store and really likes the movie, and the price was really good, so I got it for her. She has watched it with several friends.

This movie is worth the watch. It's a warm and funny movie and makes you wish the Ivy League schools looked more at the whole person instead of just what's on paper.

Seems to be about a normal everyday happenstance with a stagnant long term relationship, an affair, and a new direction. Common theme with good actors.

Tina Fey and Paul Rudd are always likeable in any role, and this is no exception. Truly original in premise, (I don't think I've ever seen a movie about a college admissions officer reconnecting with a son she's never met) however, the romantic subplot proves a bit predictable. Still this is a very enjoyable, smart, and funny film.
