Customers are impressed with the gameplay and controls of AEW: Fight Forever, frequently praising their intuitive nature and enjoyable experience. However, some feel the game is lacking in content at launch, particularly citing a limited selection of match types and a smaller-than-desired roster of wrestlers. The limited content is a recurring concern among some players. This leaves some feeling the game's value is diminished by its current offerings.

FIrstly, this game has the most enjoyable gameplay out of any current wrestling game. It completely nails the controls and vibe of the AKI-developed wrestling games it was inspired by. Easy to learn, difficult to master. I'm still learning that you can do things in this game that I didn't think was even possible.
Secondly, while the graphics are more on the cartoony side, I generally like the way it lookNick Jackson of The Young Bucks, the majority look like their real life counterparts with a cartoony flair. It's not over-the-top cartoony, just stylized enough.
Lastly, I docked it one star because while it's incredibly enjoyable, it does it need more content, particularly more match types. There's no steel cage match. That's a disappointment. Thankfully, the developer and publisher's committed to adding more content to the game (wrestlers, matches, etc). The first announced is a massive Stadium Stampede match that looks massive, ridiculous, and most of all, fun! It'll be a free download, too.
Overall, I love the game and can't wait to see what the future brings -- especially Stadium Stampede!

This game reminds me of the wrestling games from my youth! Its like playing WCW/NWO REVENGE on the Nintendo 64 but with better graphics! The gameplay is simple and straightforward without complicating it like most WWE games do these days. I absolutely love that's it's just simple fun and I typically end up playing it for hours at a time!

Holy hell, I was not expecting this! Having played the WWE 2K games since the beginning, I've grown used to their formula. Long gone are the days of my favorites; WCW/NWO Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, and No Mercy. Aside from picking up a way overpriced N64 and MacGyver-ing it to my 70" 4K television then cringing at the horrible, stretched, blocky and outdated graphics (I've actually done this), the glory days of wrestling video games were gone. The 2K titles obviously look so darn close to photo real, and the move sets and customization are staggering, but the fun-factor has never replicated the old days. I'd say N64 days, but I grew up playing arcade greats like Mat-Mania and Wrestlefest, so there was definitely a precedent even before WCW vs NWO World Tour first came into our homes. When I heard that Kenny Omega was a huge fan of the old ASMIK titles and wanted to replicate that style with the first AEW video game to be made, I was super excited. Then I saw those horrid first screenshots, and my hopes were dimmed. The lack of additional screenshots and early gameplay footage was disturbing to say the least. Gamers were whispering that it would never come together in a decent playable way. I still had a sliver of hope though. I'd always respond to the critics with one word... Halo. At this point, it's development is legendary and we know that somehow, some way, it all came together to create a masterpiece that sold Xbox's. Well I'm super excited to say that AEW Fight Forever is also a masterpiece. The graphics, while maybe not as good as the 2K games, are actually incredible and have a certain stylish charm to them. The most important aspect, gameplay, is actually a blast. If Nintendo released some form of HD Super N64, and ASMIK made an AEW wrestling game for it, this is what we'd be playing. And it's actually amazing. The controls feel so intuitive, and it moves much faster than those older N64 titles, which was always one of my only complaints back then. The beauty of AEW Fight Forever is that it exudes heart and feels very much like a passion project. I love the fact that I can pickup and play within minutes and have a blast doing so. WWE 2K has become so weighed down by its daunting controls that I never really could pull off the moves that I envisioned. Here, everything is at your disposal with some very simple directional movement and button combos. Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the huge and impressive roster (can't wait for the Danhausen DLC!). Perhaps it's a personal preference, but I am much more excited by the AEW roster that I am WWE. Being able to play as Malakai Black, Penta, Brodie Lee, Kris Statlander, Jade Cargill, Darby Allin, Big Brother 17 contestant Luchasaurus (seriously!), Wardlow, MJF, CM Punk, STING, etc., is so thrilling to me. Sure the career mode is a bit hokey (no more so than the WWE games), and the create-a-wrestler feature could definitely be deeper, but everything we're given in this game is just so glorious and dare I say, fun! Buy it!

This is a game that is meant to either be played instantly or be practiced on to perfect everything. This is what No Mercy 2 would have looked like and the mechanics are very similar. It is a game to be couch played with a couple of other friends and pass the time while having fun. The "Career" mode, which is called road to the elite, is a bit fast but offers replayability as winning/losing will alter the way you go in the career and can affect which wrestler you can unlock. Also, you can unlock MINI games by finishing a road to elite game, this game only has like 3 mini games unlocked when playing 1st time so you can play the other available ones. By just getting the disc and playing immediately, I found out it is extremely easy to grasp the basics, but this game offers so much more "mastery techniques" you can do with wrestlers and moves you can do in certain spots by going through the tutorial. Learning things like "weak" and "strong" grapples, irish whip moves, moves closer to the rope, when opp is on apron, outside, on ramp, near the stage, everywhere/everything can be found in tutorials. It looks simple, basic, easy to master...but there is so much more to the mechanics that you have to learn on your own if you truly want to master it and beat everyone you play...or you can just have fun and enjoy playing with friends. The blood, ladders, barbed wire in this match is freaking awesome too. I am not sure if the price is worth $60 as is right now unfortunately, but considering that this is NOT a yearly release and will be updated regularly to add "seasons" in forms of characters, and online events...this might be a great price...we just have to wait and see what happens. Finally... be ready to either button mash the whole controller or at least 2/3 buttons when getting pinned lol
thats it from me...glad thq and yukes made a new rassling game that is great! ...now if there was something like ps2 HCTP or SYM later on...

AEW's first wrestling game is a success

So, I am a big wrestling fan, I've been playing all the THQ games since Smackdown Shut your Mouth from 2002, all the way up to WWE 2K15. I then took a few years break from wrestling games, as I feel they became super boring, and worse than the older games. To me, Smackdown Shut Your Mouth, Here Comes the Pain, Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 were my favorites. Then a new company called AEW emerged in early 2019, and I became an instant fan. All my favorite's were going there, and then Kenny Omega talked about working with THQ Nordic to make an AEW game, there first game, and I was instantly intrigued. That's where AEW Fight Forever comes in. It was gonna be more in the lines of an arcade style game than the WWE simulation games, more like No Mercy and Here Comes the Pain, and I believe the game has that DNA in spades. The game is fast paced, super reactive, and a lot of fun. While the roster isn't as deep as 2K23, it is pretty stacked for their first game, and adding more with DLC packs can help. It's an easy and pick up and play type game, not as complicated in terms of moves to remember. I'm really impressed with how much licensed music they added in the game, every superstar's track is in and a lot of original songs too. My favorite match t play so far is the Exploding Barbed Wire Match, it's so ridiculous and chaotic. I've played about 6 hours of the game so far, haven't touched the story mode yet, just getting a feel of the different wrestlers and there moves. CM Punk is my guy lol. Issues I have so far is the reversal system is very hit or miss, you can think you were accurate but then completely get owned for the next few minutes because no reversal is working for you, need to make that a bit tighter. Also mashing to kick out or submit is such an old school game mentality, I feel it's a bit much when you mash like crazy and still don't kick out or submit. Aside from those two issues, really enjoying the game so far, and can't wait to play more.

Fun, Arcade-style Wrestling Game

Very fun wrestling game with an arcade-style. Not a simulation in the style that has become the standard for wrestling games over the past twenty years, but one that hearkens back to the games if the late 90s. As a first effort from a relatively new company, it's a great effort, even if it's rough around the edges, with plenty of room to grow. Decent amount of solo content, but better with friends. I would recommend it to someone who wants something different from the WWE games that have become the norm, with gimmicks like mini games and AEW specific quirks like an exploding barbwire match or wacky skateboard tricks.

Honestly my I haven't had a lot of time invested in this game yet. I'm a bigger fan of the fast pace, arcade-type wrestling games (i.e., Wrestle fest). Obviously, this is 2024, so wrestling games have evolved a lot over the past 30 years, but I'm looking forward to putting some time into this game and getting enjoyment out of it.

The game is fun, had to change some of the controls as the original settings felt clunky. Create a wrestler doesn’t have a lot of options but hopefully more will be added with future updates. Not a lot of match options, but once stadium stampede is added that will increase the replayability. There have been a few match ending bugs with wrestlers disappearing under the ring and had to back out of the match as well but will probably be fixed in future updates.

This game is a fun game, but it still needs many improvements to be considered a really good game. I love the controls and the match options. The online play is not much fun because it’s basically a reversal fest. I played 4-5 matches online and most of the matches was just back and forth reversals which is annoying. I feel that with updates and slight adjustments to some gameplay that this can be a great game. Needs some time still though

I put about 20 hours in, multiplayer was unbalanced, the create a wrestler is under featured and the match types are thin. Loved some of the storylines but eventually saw enough and didn't enjoy the mini games.
Stadium stampede is a hot mess.
The game is fun to play with friends multiplayer, especially for fans of No Mercy on the 64, but single player is pretty stale after a short play.
