Able to record OTA TV program

The player is as good as any other android based streaming media player, you can go to play store to install apps and games. Everything is working fine. But this player has two things that others do not, watch OTA live TV show and able to record OTA TV show, all you need to do is power on to let it update itself and plug in the included TV tuner and it will prompt you to setup live TV receive via antenna. Plug in a USB flash drive and it will prompt you to configure it as the destination for OTA TV recorder. If you use HDHomeRun network TV tuner, this player can also stream TV from HDHomeRun device, just need to install the HDHomeRun app, no free DVR though. I wish this player has duo tuner so you can watch one channel while record another channel. The icing of the cake is it comes with $50 credit for SlingTV.

Cut the cable and costs of paid TV

AirTV - 8 GB 4K Streaming Media Player with Adapter - White/blue is a great tool for eliminating the need for big-cable or satellite TV costs and allows you to take back TV the way it was originally designed to be - FREE! AirTV is a Google-Friendly 4K-streaming TV device that offers free network TV via indoor or outdoor Digital TV antenna. You can access paid content via Sling by way of their al a carte low-cost paid service. Download Google apps to add even more free TV. Set up was a little time consuming, about 45 mins, due to the updates needed out of the box, but was generally easy - mostly plug-and-play. Was a little buggy at first and had to restart itself a few times due to freezes until updates. PROS - Free TV - Small footprint, especially compared to cable or satellite equipment - Ability to record via Sling Cloud DVR - Google App/Home ready - Parental Controls - Up To 4K display resolution CONS - Buggy until updated - Not all channels will be available to all users depending on your antenna location related to TV towers and paid services.

    Okay, but not good enough

My first AirTV simply would not boot up at all. With phone support we tried to do a full restore, but it did not work. I returned it for a second AirTv. The good: * Once set up the interface is pretty intuitive. * Local OTA channels are available as promised in the Guide. This is a great feature so you don't have to switch your TV input when you want to watch local channels. * Streams live TV fairly reliably with the Sling TV built in app The bad: * Doesn't always play nice with Netgear routers, particularly during setup * Contstantly forgets local channels in the My TV section of the guide * SO MANY streaming apps from the Google Play store are not compatible with Air TV- Amazon Prime Video, The CW and many many more. The device works best with only the pre-installed apps like Sling TV and Netflix. Other than that, finding apps that you actually want and are compatible is spotty. * The built-in Chromecast is absolutely worthless. The image is offset on the screen and unwatchable. I think this is a product they should have waited to release until it was fully ready. In another two versions, this could be a great product. Currently, it is meh.

    Future of Entertainment Systems

The Sling AirTV is an outstanding product and I have thoroughly enjoyed just getting used to how well it is designed and the quality of the product. The system I got included the control box, an AirTV USB thumb drive and the remote. Each item is very solid. In fact they include an extra USB extension cable as this cable may be useful for your setup to facilitate adding a USB thumb drive to the control box to enable the future recording of local channels feature. I tested the thumb drive and it is recognized and you can configure it easily for internal storage. You are best advised to create a SlingTV account and my package included a $50 certificate toward the cost. The system works best of course if you have an active account. There are various levels of membership but the simplest is Orange at $19.99 per month. You would have to pay just $5 more per month for DVR capability. I found the installation of the product simple; I tested it on an HDTV, a computer monitor and also on an old analog TV (it did not work on the old TV as I expected even though I tried with an HDMI to RCA jack converter cable). Once you are enrolled, you can connect SlingTV to any PC Laptop, Desktop, or use the cell phone app. I have to tip my cap to SlingTV: you have a package that integrates use on all these platforms with the ability to include local ‘free-over-the-air’ channels. If you did not want to pay for a SlingTV account, you could simply use this product as an over-air converter box and you have a great channel guide feature which is not on the old-style converter boxes (which I also tried for comparison). The over the air channels were crystal clear video and audio, you do need a good over-the-air TV antenna of course. One feature that was annoying was an audible announcement of every button you pressed, good thing you can just configure this voice off. Another feature I liked is that you can pair the device with any Bluetooth speaker which in my case was necessary as I had a 32 inch monitor which had no speakers but did have an HDMI input. Initially the audio was a little off, but then everything worked fine once I turned the SlingTV box off then on – that may have just been me. You will love the ability to create you own custom list of MyTV channels which gives you easy access to your favorite channels no matter where they are sourced from. The provided ‘install and use guide’ is very brief but you can easily discover how to do things because the device is intuitive and well thought out. I did have to call support because my promotional key (for the $50 did not work. Support was excellent and even after fixing the problem they made sure I could go back and log into my account and view channels on the monitor (by the way the problem was a temporary glitch where Chrome would not work right with SlingTV but IE did; later all browsers worked but the support person fixed me up fine. Finally, someone is putting out a product that pulls all the sources together without having to switch your source connection. I would highly recommend this product for it’s design and quality and also because it is a factor of 10 times less that a cable contract but with more capability. Wonderful. I love it.

This product is great for being able to watch over the air channels and have them organized in a slick user interface. The sling TV package is very good also, just enough channels at a very reasonable price. I wish the blue and orange packages could be broken down a little further though. Also having access to netflix, youtube and the chromecast compatibility makes this a great product for older, non-smart TVs. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that the setup was troublesome. After I logged into my google account during the setup, the device just froze. After restarting I couldn't pair the remote that came with it, therefore I was completely stuck. I had to call the support number to do a factory reset on the device. Other than that, I am happy with this device.

The AirTV - 8 GB 4K Streaming Media Player is an awesome device that delivers HD content from a variety of services. I primarily use Neflix and Google Play and the images are crystal clear on my 4K television. The AirTV kit is really easy to set up. Connect to your streaming accounts and enjoy full high definition content. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a quality media streamer that delivers excellent video quality.

I really like it. We got the deal through sling 50 bucks with 3 months of sljng, so in reality I bought the box and paid 10 bucks for 3 months of sling with the hallmark channels. A challenge for all of male cord cutters with wives lol. What I like is the integration of the ota channels in slings guide. It runs smooth. You can use an hard drive or an card with adapter if you put a file browser on. Its nice in the fact our tv's with roku and apple tv we have to switch inputs this just saves a step.

The AirTV Streaming/Live TV box, which is powered by Android, is nice if you have an extremely limited budget. If you are looking for a way to "cut-the-cord," through a combination of live, OTA (Over-the-Air) channels and streaming apps, then I believe you are better off buying a new TV with Roku integrated. For about 3 times the price of the AirTV, you can buy a 55" TCL 4k smart TV. Had this device come out about three years ago, it would have been an amazing deal, but I would much prefer having all of the available features I have integrated into my TV, and 4k to boot, than just upgrading an old TV to a smart TV with this box. The AirTV works great, don't get me wrong, and if you are on an incredibly fixed budget AND want OTA TV channel integrated into your apps and services, then this is the way to go. IT does have an excellent user interface, and a high emphasis on Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, and works well with that integration. Also, keep in mind that while this is an Android powered device, it's primary use is for streaming video. Don't expect many games to be compatible with it.

While the Chromecast might be a bit more appealing from a price standpoint, I think this one does a great job as a streaming box. It will integrate with you Gmail account and even has a separate button just for Netflix which is nice. Assuming you purchase a Sling plan, there are a bunch of a la carte options you can add/remove from your plan giving you a bit more flexibility on what channels you can get. I haven't tried out the OTA TV adapter yet however I'll probably give that a shot. Looking to cut the cord completely here so that will most definitely be the last piece of the puzzle.

I was very excited to open the box to get started. I have been watching OTA for several months now to save money. This is great because it lets me easy integrate my OTA channels with Sling and other digital internet options. I did need to install the OTA channels like 3 times but all are working in harmony together. Great value for the product.

I love this device! It is built on Android so there are not any surprises with its operation and you can download virtually any app you can find on the Play Store. It has all the functionality of an Android TV including being a Chromecast so the uses are endless. The menu system is intuitive and very quick to navigate for people of any age or technological skill level. The way broadcast channels are integrated right into the UI is genuinely amazing and unlike any other device I have used before. This can easily replace your increasingly expensive cable bill and make you wonder why you didn't cut the cord sooner. Also, It seems the device receives regular updates as well so it can only get better.

`I've been trying to 'cut the cord' for a long time. I've been clinging on for live sports. This streaming box is a good alternative to cable and it has the same HD quality. I constantly lose my remotes on the couch or in the other room, so I'm glad this has a remote locating feature. It sucks that it doesn't come with an antenna, but the $50 credit to SlingTV makes up for it haha!

    Great Streamer

If you have Sling Tv for streaming this is the box to get. I've used several Fire TV's, Roku Boxes and sticks and this beats them all, it's very fast, has local channels with Sling channels, allows recording of local channels with optional external hard drive. The setup was very simple, after a few updates it found my brand of TV and it even found my Sony surround sound receiver. The power button on the remote turns on the TV, Air TV box and the Sony receiver and sets it to the proper input for the video and uses the receiver to control the sound. It's extremely fast compared to other streaming boxes I've used in the past.

Unlike most of the streaming boxes. The best feature of this box is the ability to watch "over the air" TV stations and the quality is excellent. The TV programming information is fed through Sling service and it also provides you with the options to order additional channels that your standard OTA service do not provide. We can't be more happy at this point!

Decent Device but bad streaming service

I was very hopeful that this device would solve my issues with my current streaming/OTA setup as I have a TIVO for local channels/DVR and PS Vue for cable stations. I dislike the PS Vue DVR and Guide as it is a horrible interface and I was hoping this product would combine the stream cable channels with the local OTA channels into one guide. It DOES do that and I was pretty happy about that. The setup of the device was pretty easy and the DVR for local channels worked as well. I was actually quite pleased with it. However, about an hour after I had it set up, I went to watch Seinfeld on TBS. Picture was good, device was responsive, no issues. Then, I pressed the pause button as I had to get up for a few minutes and did not want to miss my program. I pressed the pause button and received the message "This action is not allowed for TBS". I tried this on several streaming channels with the same result. I contacted tech support via chat and and phone. Turns out that only CERTAIN channels allow you to pause live streaming - so if you need to get up in the middle of a football game to get some food or a drink, you CANNOT pause ESPN. Additionally, you cannot DVR all channels - practically nothing from any Walt Disney Co channel (ABC, ESPN, Freeform) is allowed to be recorded on their Cloud DVR. Needless to say, the device is being returned tomorrow but I wanted to know how to reset the device and wipe out my data on the device. Tech support gave me incorrect instructions for how to do that. I did find the correct method via Google

      Milo,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the AirTV Player. While I'm glad the OTA channels worked well, it seems you ran up against some contractual issues wth the programming on Sling TV. Yes, different channels provide different features to Sling and while most oft the streaming channels do allow Sling to support pause, look-back etc, some do not. Please keep in mind that with the AirTV Player and a hard drive attached, you can record and pause all of you local broadcast channels. AirTVSupport

Although it is an Android operating system, there are a lot of apps that are not available in the store to use. For example, I have the Oxygen channel on Dish. The app is available in the google play store for my cell phone/tablet. However, it is NOT a choice in the google play store for this device. There are many other examples. The selection of apps is limited. The Roku player is much better. It is over priced for this reason also. The pro is that it has bluetooth so you can hook up a keyboard and not have to use a controller to type in your login credentials. It also has a ethernet port

    Problems after 30 days

This device works well, for about 30 days, then it will freeze and reboot itself. The tech support is almost non existent. If you search AirtV buffering and freezing you will see this device has issues. The tech support will insist it is Sling or Netflix but not their device. Even if you tell them you are streaming the same movie of your tablet or laptop with no issues. The only solution they will agree to is for you to ship back the device (5 days to process after shipping) then they will ship you a new one (5 - 7 BUSINESS days to ship) So you are out about 2 weeks without TV service.

    Just not worth it

Disappointed in this product and SlingTV. I had high hopes but it is just not very useful. Pros: Easy to setup Feels like a solid build quality Cons: Does not pickup all the local stations I can get with the same antenna connected directly to my TV. Puts stations in the guide in random order, not numerically, and shows only logos without channel numbers. No way to customize channel order. No way to scan through the channels up or down. Must go through the guide, scroll to channel, and select. When you select a channel, it displays the info window first, and then you must select again to go to channel. Slow and inconvenient. The screen display size on non HD channels is much smaller than the screen and changing aspect ratio on TV does not help. I'm also not impressed with SlingTV. They say it's "ala cart" programming, but that is just not true. You have to select one or both of their main packages and then add-on more small packages to get anything decent. 80% of the channels I get I will never watch, and I still don't have all the basic channels I do want, and I'm paying $35 a month. I will not renew. I should have bought a Tablo for my local channels and then I could incorporate all the streaming channels from Roku.

Thank you for your feedback on your AirTV Player. We appreciate your time in providing us guidance.
