My buddy had this way back and I really only bought if for nostalgia purposes. Watched it again. Still cool. Very groundbreaking in its time.

Akira is ALWAYS a good view. Saw it back n the 80s in Japanese and loved it. Saw it in the early 90s with the first English dub. Loved it. Saw it in the late 90s with the second English dub. Loved it. The art style is, by today's standards, very analogue. Hand draw cells. No CG. Large Bright colors throughout. Lots of violence. Some excellent voice acting and amazing scripting for its day. While today, thought provoking scripting is kinda the norm for anime, back then, most of it was He-Man styled fluff. THIS IS NOT HE-MAN STYLE FLUFF. It is very deep. It is thought provoking. It is simply amazing!

The 4K presentation makes Akira look better than ever before. The sound is better than the previous release. However, I’ve not heard a better presentation than the Japanese Hypersonic version from the 2009 release. If you’ve never heard that version, then the mix with this 4K one may sound better to you than the prior Blu-ray releases. Either way, it’s a great version of Akira.

When it comes to anime, whether you're a fan or not, Akira is just one of those films that needs to be seen. Words cannot do enough justice to explain how great this movie is. I would normally try to avoid using such descriptions for a movie, but in this case I just feel it is true. Perhaps that's because I put this movie off for a long time and when I finally sat down and viewed it I was just that blown away. Either way, I love it, and I wouldn't really call myself a fan of anime. I consider myself more of a fan of just film as a whole. Enough said.

I grew up with the old Streamline Pictures VHS of this movie, and it was great to see that old dub included with the more recent dub of the film when it got released on DVD in the 2000s. Tons of features and a great HD transfer of this perennial classic. As for the film itself, what can I say that hasn't been said already. This movie defined anime for a generation, and its influence is still felt today. It isn't perfect, but its strengths far out weigh its flaws. If you haven't seen it then you are missing out. If your on the fence, i would say get this now as if it ever goes out of print you might end up paying a king's ransom later.

Not a fan of anime but have always liked this. The blu looks and sounds great. Steelbook looks good to.

I saw this anime 20yrs ago and Liked it. I bought the blu ray to re watch it and I still like it now.

Was told to watch this movie and I liked it. Was lost at first but then I understood it somehow.

My homie and I saw this a few weeks ago after a good skate sesh. While we were kicking it in his bed, we decided to put this movie on. My homie had already seen it, but it was completely new to me. After 5 mins of watching the intro, I couldn't pull my eyes away from the screen cause of how good the story and art style was. I recommend this to everyone who is willing to watch a good film. If you want more out of this story, read the manga of the same title.
