A REAL Hollywood Classic

Pepe Le Moko, a thief who escaped from France with a fortune in jewels, has for two years lived in, and virtually ruled, the mazelike, impenetrable Casbah, "native quarter" of Algiers. A French official insists that he be captured, but sly Inspector Slimane knows he need only bide his time. The suave Pepe increasingly regards his stronghold as also his prison, especially when he meets beautiful Parisian visitor Gaby, who reminds him of the boulevards to which he dare not return...and arouses the mad jealousy of Ines, his Algerian mistress. Algiers is a real Hollywood classic like they don't make anymore. Beautiful Hedy Lamarr makes her American film debut and Charles Boyer sizzles in the lead role.

Hedi Lamarr was considered the most beautiful woman on screen in the 1940's. She was also the genius inventor of what cyber security experts call "data encryption." Algiers is the movie that made her famous. She turned down the starring role in "Casablanca," but made herself immortal starring in "David and Golieth." Algiers is good quality and, starring next to Charles Boyer, launched her career. You will like it.

Terrific performances by Boyar and Lamarr, as well as a very good screenplay. Extremely enjoyable.
