This is a isometric action/tactics game. You control the entire squad together versus managing each soldier for tasks and positions. The maps are large and take a fair amount of time, often causing you to extract your wounded/tired soldiers and redeploying a new team to pick up where you left off. The leveling and skill gains are not very exciting and you find yourself applying many of the same traits across the different classes. The enemy AI is fairly disappointing as you will just get rushed by enemies constantly with no real ‘Alien’ type feel to the approach, just constant cannon fodder. At about the mid-game point, a planetary bomb timer is set in place, forcing you to rush the end of the campaign. The game is still buggy where buttons will just stop working and you can’t even open a door unless you reboot the entire game from the console menu. Frame rate can get really terrible and stay that way if there are too many objects left on the map (like leaving alien xeno samples scattered and not picking them up. Game has crashed at least 5 times, slowed to 10fps permanently many times, and buttons have stopped responding probably 6 times. I have probably put in 20 hours and i don’t feel like I will beat the last maps before I am cut off. The Aliens franchise is one of my all time favorites. I even enjoy Colonial Marines a fair amount do to how deep it leans into the Aliens films, but this game seems to just touch enough of the theme and on the tactics gameplay but falls pretty flat. I feel like you have to be someone who enjoys crpgs where you chip away at a map for this semi hold your attention the whole way through. This game is def for the 10% or you will get bored. It could have easily been another theme w different enemies and would feel almost the same. More tactical and more Alien infused would have greatly benefitted it. I am 80% done and will finish the game out (if it allows me enough time) but its not something I will keep in my collection for a future play through. I am still thankful for a new Aliens game but its pretty 6/10 alright. There is enjoyment to be had but the VAST majority will drop out. At this point im playing for completion and because i love anything Alien.

Chalk full of errors but an amazing, not just some shoot em up game. You can and will be screwed if you don't pay attention.
