Good spec but too costly. Display and sound in this laptop is a big plus. Good keyboard and nice track pad. Battery backup impressive 5hr plus under low usage. Little heavy but with right bag its easy to transport.

I wanted a laptop with a 17 " screen and 4K video. In spite of great video resolution, Apple no longer makes 17 " Macs. The Alienware 17" laptop features excellent 4K video on a non-glare screen with plenty of graphics horse power featuring both Intel's i7 6700HQ processor as well as an additional Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M graphics processor. 8G of main memory and 3G of dedicated video memory deliver unwavering high speed graphics rendering. These memories are expandable to suit your application (up to 32G). 1T of hard drive space and a separate 1.25G SSD provide massive storage and response time. I produce videos for posting on YouTube and this Alienware machine will quickly render 4K and 3D video given the proper third party software. If you're a gamer you'll want this machine as it is expandable with a graphics amplifier to maximize multiplayer gaming performance. The back lit key board is color assignable and thus can be color coded for gaming functions. The 802.11AC "Killer" Wi-Fi software can visually map the 2.4G and 5G radio spectrum permitting optimal channel selection to minimize adjacent interference from others and maximize wireless network speed. The web cam provides full 1080 resolution to compliment any bad hair day. The Dual Klipsch speakers with subwoofer are a welcome improvement over most laptops but for intense gaming or music videos get a set of good headphones or performance speakers. That said, the on board audio amp and updated sound blaster software solves the wimpy audio problem encountered on most Windows PCs. There is power to spare and a good equalizer on board. This high performance machine is solidly constructed and consequently weighs 8.3 pounds (you may want to add a roadie to your entourage). Caution: This machine ships with specialized drivers which must be updated frequently to avoid I/O crashes. Dell provides an excellent support site for drivers etc. When you power up for the first time, visit the Dell/Alienware site immediately to update the drivers to avoid an annoying Windows 10 crash. For additional piece of mind I also bought a chill mat as machines of this type generate lots of heat. If you aren't a techie, buy a Geek Squad protection plan and have them install the drivers before you leave the store (really). An investment in this machine warrants a good service plan. Over all, this is a great five star performance machine with ample room for expansion (and it looks really cool). Buy one but get a Geek Squad service plan.

The laptop is good only for gaming and entertainment but it comes with other cons. Since it is 4K display i had lot of trouble to work with many software as the don't support 4K. I don't recommend for college students who look to use it for running educational software. And i had heating issue once but dell took care of replacing the heat sink. It runs good but the laptop usually gets little hot than other laptop since it has higher processing power. Think twice before investing in this.

This laptop is incredibly powerful for gaming. The one drawback is that it can't actually be a "lap"top because the heat generated from said power will burn your lap. So if you're envisioning the machine that you can cozy up with in bed, I would look elsewhere. But if you're looking for something to plug into your TV via HDMI or sit with at a desk, this machine delivers at a price point lower than many "gaming machines" out there.

This was given to me as a Christmas present. I do a lot of computer gaming and wanted something I could take on the road. So far it has done well. Plays fallout 4 with no trouble.

Picked this up cause I found an awesome open box deal. Got it for $500 off retail price. So for what I paid and what I got I'm not complaining at all. This laptop gives me a great gaming experience when I'm out and about and not home on my tower. 4k screen is nice though somewhat wasted on a 17 inch screen in my opinion. Some programs I run look really small but that's my only gripe. If you have the money these Alienwares are nice to have when not gaming at home.

Tried many gaming Laptops before I tried Alienware. I wish I had spent the extra money and purchased it first. It is the best gaming laptop I ever owned.

Alienware is one of those products that proves you get what you pay for. This laptop has is all and is the way to go if your looking for great gaming power and do not want a desktop computer.

Love the 4k display and the video card is capable of handling the games I play at this resolution with a decent frame rate. Recommended to a co-worker and he likes his new computer too.

To me, this thing is a dream. I've had the chance very recently to put it through some paces and I couldn't be happier. I generally game at home with a PC but whenever I travel (somewhat rarely) the need for strength in such a laptop became noted. I used this consistently for a week straight now, and here are some notes: I largely play World of Warships for my most "advanced" game. Even over the most baseline/minimal WiFi that hotel chains allow you without paying for more bandwidth per night, this thing rocks it. I have settings largely maxed with little to no lag; I attribute this to the included Killer app. I had one round with lag...around eight others with no lag at all. The 4k display is beautiful. Rich colors, very detailed on a normal basis, even when only looking at 1080 content. The camera is also highly detailed. Not sure of the resolution but when doing a Skype session, even my wife commented on how detailed our side of the picture was. Win10 handles older games well now. I've downloaded some content from GOG.com and with tweaking that has been noted by the community the programs work well. Be sure to note items of interest on other reviews for tips to make it load up faster...they work well. Also if you're thinking of SSD expansion beyond the 1TB HDD (World of Warships loads much better with one), be sure to select an M.1 drive (NOT SATA) since this is the only type of SSD that the expansion interface will accept...kind of learned this the hard way myself but I now have a 1TB M.1 SSD in there and I'm a happy camper.

This is my first laptop in a long time, it replaced my few year old All In One HP PC. This is my first Dell product, and I thought the Alienware was very cool looking, and loved the 4K 17.3 inch screen. I play GTA V on it, and it runs it great on the highest settings, no problems at all. Seems very high quality, and well built. I would highly recommend it at this point, very happy.

I have purchased many Dell laptops over the years but this one is the best for the gaming perfomance. I have been playing high end games on my desktop but now can play on this laptop without any problems. I bought an external Dell USB DVD player for $40 so we don't miss the DVD player not being on this laptop. Seems to be the right laptop for me at the right price.

When you want a solid, well performing gaming laptop this is the one you purchase. While by no means the most or least expensive gaming system, you're going to get a beast of a machine. This is a highly customizable, and very future proof laptop that screams awesome! The display is amazing, and the sounds immerse you in the games. The play is fluid, and there is no lag. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for PC play!

The computer is amazing in appearance and performance. In a world where most laptops are not very user upgradable, if at all, this computer is. Just a couple of screws on the bottom reveal slots for upgraded hard drives with 2 PCI express SSD bays, one SATA SSD, or conventional hard drive, user accessible RAM slots, and with the graphics amplifier you can even use desktop grade video cards. No bloatware was there, and it is fast out of the box. I have been using the laptop a couple of months heavily now for gaming and Microsoft Office. It is an excellent buy.

I wanted a laptop for casual gaming. Handles all the applications I need and then some. Nice machine.

This laptop is really powerful. It handles as much or more than any of our desktops. It is pretty heavy for a laptop, but still portable.

I replaced the 1TB hard drive with a solid state 1TB hard drive. Not quite as fast as I expected but much faster than standard HD. When working with applications once app is loaded, it's a speed demond. It has a very high resolution and graphics driver. A few programs responded with small graphics which requires using the Windows Magnifier. Also some drop down menus also requires the same. While a little annoying I like the speed and will endure this minor problem. By the way, changing resolution to lower setting does not solve this problem, I assume that the graphics driver is set accordingly. It has 10 macro keys which can be useful for gaming and other applications. Otherwise graphics are great.
