Customers are saying

Customers value the high performance and impressive graphics capabilities of this 17.3" gaming laptop, frequently praising its large screen size and solid build quality. However, some users experienced issues with heat generation, battery life, and fan noise, while others found the refresh rate and touchpad less than ideal. Despite these drawbacks, many appreciate the laptop's speed and storage capacity, along with its competitive price point.

It's great. Heats up like crazy so better take a cooling fan or something with. There's one complaint i'd like best buy to note is that they did not email the exact bill I had in store, I had a game free with it. And now I don't. No problems with the laptop though. Good luck buying it

A great overall laptop. Good screen, with performance, not too loud fans, nice looking device. The only issue I have with it is the cooling system,is really poor for this price point. Alienware software is really bad if that is an issue for you.

I got a tremendous deal on this laptop on clearance. It's a big laptop and hard to carry around. It's a chunky desktop replacement for sure. It feels sturdy and well built, but the lid is plastic. Ports are plenty, but no usb-c charging. The barrel charger weighs about 22 oz alone, so the whole package is around 7.5 lbs. The RTX 2070 GPU is a max-q version with throttled clocks so watch out, but it's still more than enough to drive the 1080p 17.3" screen on this laptop. I have the CPU undervolted, which enables the GPU to have more thermal headroom. Overall, it runs cool, but the fans are a little loud. I may need to repaste the CPU and GPU for better acoustics, but it stays cool in my environment with my undervolt (throttlestop). I only paid around half of the msrp for this brand new laptop, so if you get a deal don't hesitate. If you have to pay more than 1800, I'd look for a better deal.

This is a very good gaming laptop. I purchased this solely for this reason. But after time went on I realized a slimmer; more compact laptop would fit my lifestyle better. I ended up returning it but would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who is advanced in the pc.

I have only had one game (a powerful one) heat this thing up and cause a little bit of slowing down. After a tweak I haven't seen the problem again. I would have liked to not have seen that at all having spent $2000+ on a gaming laptop but I am happy.

      Fleshycannibal,

We're happy to hear that you're satisfied with your new Alienware laptop so far. We're sorry to hear that there's one game that causes the computer to heat up on you a little bit. We'd recommend adjusting the settings in the Alienware Control Center if you experience a warm operating temperature again:

      • To tune your system, go to Alienware Command Center and select out of 4 different thermal profiles that will help you manage system temperatures as well as performance output to your preference. These include Cool, Quiet, Balanced, and Performance thermal profiles.

      • Our Alienware also m17 follows 8th and 9th generation Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance.

      • We fully warrant the product under these conditions. If you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center, please contact support and they will take care of your issue - https://dell.to/2Inbc8F.

Over the years, I've been using ASUS but something inside me to try something new so I tried an Alienware. I have to say, this is the best computer I've ever used. The games look better and the performance is out of this world. Alienware is in my future from now on.

Bought this for gaming and school. Has everything you need and works great so far. Will see how it works for school in the fall, but I’m not too concerned about the size and weight. Runs hot when gaming, so fan noise is evident.

This is not a laptop for regular users. It's a hardcore gaming laptop. For games, the specs are good, speed is really good and the display is good. All good for a good gaming laptop. Only downside is that it's expensive due to brand name.

ive had this computer for a year and a half. in that time dell has had to replace the speakers and the power plug twice. the power plug is a behemoth because the power of the system without it is very low and virtually no games can be played without it. for example old school runescape a 15 year old game can only manage 15 fps without a plug. from a computer with a rtx 2070.. imagine something like cod or control looks like. next the keys are flat and harder to use. ALL gaming laptops should have raised mechanical keys. 1080p when 4k had been standard for the last several years. no SD port ( also standard) yet they can include a port for their optional graphics housing this computer has 2 hard drives one 500 gb ssd which is the c drive then a 1 tb HDD for all your games. reallly dell?? An HDD. its not the 60s anymore. about those hard drives. the d drive has now been replaced 3 times due to failure now the c drive is also failing, next is the motherboard. best buy just put a new alienware motherboard in the computer and this one appears to be bad to. i only got on here to schedule yet another appointment but figured i would warn you

O.M.G. I am so happy. Alienware does cost more, yet when Best Buy has it on sale or clearance, it is a fantastic investment since it is top-of-the-line computing. My colleague who works in government uses these computers for mapping and surveying needs (since it is built extra strong for "gaming" it handles large programs far better). Alienware has extra cooling fans compared to other laptops and the speed is incredible. Best Buy's sale/clearance price even beat the government discount price my colleague pays. When I told my colleague what I paid for my computer, the reply was "WOW !!!"

A Beast... Once you figure out how to Setup

This computer is simply a beast of a machine. That being said it'll take some time to configure it to run like the beast it is designed to be. Out of the box it is gorgeous. The design is clean, the boxing is perfect, and makes you realize the true amount of dedication that is made into each computer. Once you boot up and plug in the computer and going through your windows configuration, you are greeted with an Alienware branded desktop. The display shows colors vividly and well detailed. However, the real test, is it a real gaming computer? Will this compete with my custom PC desktop I built 5 years ago? The answer HECK YES. Immediately I downloaded the Division 2 onto the computer and put it on the secondary drive. Understandable, the second drive took a little bit to load the game compared to the SSD, but thats because its a spinning disk versus flash storage. Once I was spawned into Washington DC, i immediately went into a massive fight to stress the graphics and processor. I wanted to see if I would get frame drops. I did not lose 1 frame. It performed very well. Hmmm why am I getting so hot? OH. The fan is spinning faster than the tilt-o-whirl. The onboard cooling is slightly loud but it is expected with a machine that packs a punch in a small form factor. Keep in mind I had this on a desk while playing so it had many ways to escape. On my lap I would expect my thighs to begin to get hot. Now onto the battery gaming test. Close out of the game and run off battery. Load up the Division again. Immediately I am greeted with choppy frames, and impossible gameplay. Seriously? Ok I go to Google and look up this issue. Low and behold, its an setting in NVIDIA Graphics. You need to enable Best performance always in their settings regardless of battery. Otherwise it will sacrifice performance when on battery to conserve the battery. Once I updated the setting the computer ran just the same as when it was on battery. The battery drain did not happen as fast as I expected. Overall for the price point a great machine, however, I feel as though at this price point you should have either a 144HZ display or a greater resolution screen. I can tell you though outside of the display/resolution for price, this machine will beat out some of your competition by far and its portable so you can game anywhere you want with the performance of a full tower PC
