Customers praise the laptop's performance, build quality, and screen size, highlighting the immersive visual experience and robust construction. The eye-tracking feature and upgradable SSD are also appreciated. However, some customers find the laptop heavy, with limited battery life, and mention heat as a potential concern.

I really miss gaming on it and the power that the hefty case exuded. The weight and size made it quite. a workout to lug around but I was ok with that since I lift weights. The biggest issue I had with it included blue screens which I theorize was due to a faulty motherboard (I tried installing clean versions of windows and the BIOS hardware tests came back negative). Also, after about one year, it began to have issues detecting the battery. This was very annoying when I was working on a project and the laptop would shut off as if the battery were being yanked out. These problems wouldn't happen often (average once a month) but they would happen randomly which I find extremely unreliable.

This laptop was amazing but I needed it to be more mobile for work. It says a lot and it's size was big, bit perfect for stationary. This thing replaces a desktop no problem. Tobii eyes tracking was great, signs you in by your eyes. Recommend but to big for me.

I purchased R1 of the Alienware 17 laptop when it first came out in I think 2008 or 2009. There were some bugs with it, but I worked them out and ended up using the thing for seven years, thousands of hours, and loved the power and features. This new R4 Alienware 17 is a major upgrade to any PC - desktop or laptop - I have ever owned. I'm in the process of moving all my desktop data to the cloud, and will use this laptop for everything...work, hobby, whatever. I'm not a gamer but I do photo and video editing as a hobby.
In summary, this laptop blows my mind. Bootup is almost instantaneous. Everything works. Battery life is good, given the speed and capability of this PC. I watched a full feature film I had downloaded while on an airplane and had battery life to spare at the end of the movie.
I was considering a new MacBook Pro, but I'm glad I went the Alienware route. I could have bought a much slower MacBook for several hundred dollars more. Why would that make sense?

After using this laptop of the month...
Like:
1) The 2560x1440 120mhz with G-sync screen. Definitive make is some of the games I had(No more tear effect in Castle Crashers).
2) The GTX 1070. I was able games to max with no issues.
3)Keyboard is very solid(no flex). The backlight is nice as well.
4)Cooling system works well.
Didn't Like:
1) Weight - at almost 10 lbs, this laptop is heavier then most
2) Size - Althought the screen 17.3" ,this is closer 18" because a little added to back end for cooling system for a 17.3 case might not work with your case.
3)Could another USB on the side. This has 2 USB (1 on the left side,1 on the right side.) But the another one won't have hurt.
4) No Card Reader
5)Heat Exhaust on the left side. You need to careful after playing game with heat exhaust. It won't burn you,but you will notice it heat from it.
6)Fans can get a little load if push the graphics card.
Other:
1) It was strange, I installed a Samsung 951 on the other m.2 slots. But for reason BIOS/UEFI won't recognize it. But windows 10 did with no problem.
2)This also has Tobii Eye tracking, but don't software that uses it,so I haven't to test under game situations.
I like this laptop. The 120mhz with G-sync screen and 1070 allows me games to the max. The problem weight is heavier then most other laptop. Also laptop size is bigger then other 17.3" laptop which might it difficult put it in current 17.3" carrying case.(Mine did,but just barely).

This laptop is a beast when you're talking about performance and weight (very heavy lol). A regular 18" bag do not fit to this laptop, just saying.
I've buyed a open box certified and everithing looks perfect. No regrets until now.

Looked at other gaming laptops before checking out the Alienware laptop. By far the Alienware is the best hands down. What it offers with its construction, display, keyboard that is supported underneath with a steel plate to stop any bending when hitting the keys, dual cooling fans, large venting bottom, sides and back keep it cool from overheating while in heavy game use is the best laptop for gaming. It's unique lighted sides and keyboard that has multiple colors to choose. I would highly recommended the Alienware to anyone that is looking for a top notch quality gaming system. It has performed as I expected from a quality manufacturer.

After agonizing about whether or not to drop even bigger bucks on a MacBook Pro for a skimpier hardware configuration, I finally decided to try this Alienware machine for my music recording and production. (Not a gamer, so not much I can add about that.) Much more hardware bang for the buck and excellent performance, as well as broader support for various connection types. Wish I'd gotten a 256G SSD instead of 128, but it's a great machine so far.

Expected the best was disappointed. After an update the Tolbi eye tracking software stopped working can no longer find the camera and no way to fix it. Alien ware software is cumbersome and slows down the machine not really much help there at all. Machine runs hot with basic programs, especially when using graphics, cooling isn't really effective and sounds like it's trying to take off after a few minutes in any game.
