I use this computer mainly for development and some light gaming and it has been running great. I run a mac virtual machine to develop iOS software and it gives me no problems and doesn't get that loud. It ran Halo Wars and Elder scrolls online on max settings with no problems and I am thoroughly pleased with the system. I will probably get a second stick of ram so it supports dual channel and a solid state drive to make it even faster. Even though it already boots up in under 10 seconds.

I have finally purchased a computer that works well, other than adding more ram, I left everything alone and it works great. Other than the fan being loud when running multiple applications everything has exceeded my expectations.

My son was using our PC for his games and we bought him a high end laptop so he could use his own computer and be mobile. That didn't work out so well for games. This system is awesome. There are way more capabilities than my son needs for now, but a great system that he can grow into versus the alternative of normally outgrowing the system you have in a year or so.

This is a very good, well functioning performance tower. It's well worth it's money and a good buy, the only complaint I would give it would be that the fan does occasionally run rather loud when cooling.

After owning my last Dell for 5 years without a problem I decided it was time to upgrade. I have never owned Alienware before, but so far I am very impressed. The case is easy to work with and easy to install extra cards. My xonar dgx audio board was installed in 5 minutes. This was too good a deal to pass up, much, much less than the retail price. The graphics card (GTX 970, 4GB) is almost as good as top tier cards you can buy today. This is a very fast machine, runs everything I do (video and audio editing, games) like a shot. Other than the on board audio, I see no need to upgrade anything. NEGATIVES: As other reviewers have mentioned, the DVD/cd writer is Incredibly cheap and flimsy. I don't think it would last long with heavy use. Not having a memory card reader is another inconvenience. Keep in mind this will only accept additional 2.5" hard drives. I had an older 3.5" hdd that I can't use. It just won't fit anywhere in the case because of plastic supports Dell uses for the graphics card. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I couldn't touch an i7 machine with these options for anything close to the sale price.

Got an open box for a little under half the original price. Great pc, simple to use. Only issues were the usb jacks (problem fix with update) and i needed to buy more ram.

As a preface let me explain that this is a great computer through and through however I am stuck with a broken/defective unit because the one that I got from Best Buy Honolulu (#763) came with a optical drive that did not work and was not plugged in to the power sata cable. When I took it to the local Best Buy I went to Geek Squad as I had the full service plan and wanted to have them install the OS on the SSD and to plug the power Sata into the Optical Drive so that I could use DVDs or CDs. I was told later on in the day that because I had opened the case that I am liable for the damage to the Optical Drive as the power port was damaged on the drive and that I cannot return or exchange the unit because I had opened the case. I was upset because I had notified the customer service person when I purchased the unit that the optical drive wasn't working when I had them plug in the unit to see if the drive would pop out as I normally test units because this unit was a replacement after receiving 2 ASUS ROG's that gave blue screen of death and overheated so I wanted to make sure this one was good. The customer service person told me oh dont worry about it and to take it home of which it still didn't work properly and I opened the case and saw it wasn't plugged in of which I did not know why it wasnt which prompted me to as stated above take it in to have that plugged in and the OS moved to an SSD. Long story short, I'm stuck with a desktop that I cannot return and that was damaged upon my getting it and I'm stuck with a 2 year total protection which serves me nothing as even if this unit breaks Best Buy will not replace it. 1500$ wasted

Managed to snag this baby before it sold out online and i was in love. The Unit is super sleek and it's been preforming great. I might upgrade the Graphics card and RAM but for the price of a prebuild, it's well worth it, especially in the fact it's Oculus able.

I primarily use my Alienware Aurora for daily gaming. Since i began using it, I have been able to play every game I have including the new Call of Duty, Doom, and SIMS smoothly and without issue! I have not upgraded any hardware yet either!

What an amazing Gaming PC, came from a gtx 460 an 2nd gen i7 and this is a night and day difference, handles any game I throw at it with ease, added an extra 16gb ram and a Samsung SSD to it to really make it a power house and its a dream!

    Going back-bad build by Dell

It deserves a 0. It's a nice machine, but having too many problems trying to upgrade the memory. The PC is not taking PNY memory sticks. I'm on the 2nd set of sticks. Either the PC shuts down, or displays a blue screen of death. I'm using NON ECC. At the same time the video card drivers and thermal control drivers keep stopping. Worthless machine to have so many problems out of the box. It's going back!

This PC is a screamer! The only negative is the lack of RAM. 8 Gigs is not enough to game with. Added another 16 and now I have a PC that will hold me over for a few years. Highly recommend this system for the money!!

When you compare the Alienware with the Taiwanese big four Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and ASRock then you get to see no value in Aurora R5. Alienware UEFI is straight out of the 1980's MS DOS computer look vs the big four bespoke designed GUI with every possible tweak you can think of. MSI Nightblade MI2 metal case at half the size and at $999 kicks Aurora's butt with 7th gen Intel and 10th gen Nvidia on board for $500 less. Strangely BB opted not to carry this line. I returned the unit without even opening the box since many reviews pointed to the PSU incredible noise while running basic tasks. Biggest reason for the return was the Nvidia's almost double the performance from 9-10th gen cards and the fact that Aurora is using pretty outdated case design internals. Even with a clearance discounts this was not worth it since I had to invest in more ram and SSD drive. I guess you have to be a diehard fan of Alienware brand to take whatever they offer. Not in my case.
