So far so good. Really nice graphics and awesome thermals. Keep in mind if you put it in the highest performance settings the fans will start blowing out REAL HOT air anything close will get really hot

The alienware m15 r3 15.6 is the perfect gaming laptop. It is medium weight, nice size and extremely fast. The graphics are phenomenal! And with Best Buy offering $600 off, it is a cant beat it deal!

The laptop is awesome but one major drawback is how hot it gets when playing games.

This laptop is a Fastas Sumbichi. When I bought it there was a free download of Outriders as a bonus too. It runs everything I want to play with no stutters or graphical glitches. I put a PS2 emulator on it and it will run the games so fast I had to keep the framerate capped at 60 frames per second to keep them playable. The 2070 super just begs for more to do. I bought an Xbox wireless controller and it was easy to set up. I'm very happy with the purchase. The only 'nit' I have with it is the display hinge is a little tight and I have to use two hands to open it. If I were an Olympic judge I'd give it a 9.975, just a little short of perfection.

pretty good beast, just cooling system and fans are really picky, some of them bring much more noise - good to check and choose! Difference in temperature with CPU is very significant at different laptops with same configuration. Better have a cooling pad, get ready for warm keyboard and don't even get closer to it without installing ALIEN CONTROL CENTER, where you can for browsing web choose quiet or cool profile otherwise listen the song of FANS ALL THE TIME :-)))

Almost everything about this laptop is great, be it the raw horsepower, smooth keyboard, portable size, etc. However, it's Achilles' heel is the lackluster screen. While the colors are good, the response rate is excellent, and movement is overall buttery smooth, the backlight bleeding around the edges (all 4 corners and particularly bad bottom right edge) is absolutely atrocious. Now I'm NOT talking about IPS glow, I'm specifically referring to the backlight penetrating the edges, as if a flashlight is shining through. If you game or watch movies that feature dark scenes, the light bleed is obvious and distracting. It's not like this thing costs half of what is does. This is a flagship series with poor screen manufacturing/QC. Who knows, maybe someone gets a unicorn and all is well, but I've gone through multiple 2020 Alienware laptops and all are roughly the same in terms of moderate backlight bleed. I just purchased a $999 MSI for my son and it has even lighting and minimal bleeding around the edges.

I hadn’t bought a laptop in 10 years, this thing was worth the months of saving up! The keyboard is BEAUTIFUL, the only gripes I have is for gaming I definitely need to buy another SSD (it has 3 M.2 slots though!), it is hard to find a sleeve for it for safe travel, and I feel I need one more USB “A” or “C” port, but that’s just because I also use it for music production and recording and I use a TON of ports. Overall, save up, buy it on a sale. It’s a beautiful computer that can be surprisingly subtle when you turn off the RGB for traveling and playing at gigs, and it tears it up playing games.

An amazing laptop for gaming. My husband loves it! It does run a bit hot, so we purchased a cooling fan for underneath.

Threw history of gaming PCs, both desktops and laptops, Alienware was renowned for power (cpu and graphics) and the ability to upgrade most components. The m15 R3 is a poor excuse for an Alienware both in features and in cost. Normally this device sells for around $2000. With that price in mind this laptop has 3 flaws that make it so it should never receive above 1 maybe 2 stars: 1. SSD is only 512gb. Tiny for the size of games today. You may feel like you're breaking it if you try upgrading it. 2: windows 10 home. Dell should have have given up the extra $2 and given the pro version. 3: MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU CANNOT UPGRADE THE RAM. Not sure who's brilliant thinking it was to solder the ram in the design. If the ram fails, its basically a paper weight. This was likely done to get people to pay for extended, and expensive, warranties. Or thinking people who prefer smaller screens for travel are just cheapos who would never upgrade. This is really a killer as there are games coming out where 32GB of ram would be better. Not everyone wants 32 now but likely assumed they could upgrade in the future. Otherwise it looks nice. Came with a dead battery and windows hangs on initial setup.

Not worth the price. Battery is very weak, lasting only a couple hours if that. Also the overheating is ridiculous! The package came with no accessories! No extra battery, no cooling pad, no mouse etc . I was shocked by the lack of value. I would’ve returned this laptop if not that I needed it for my buisness.

Originally I Use a Thinkpad, Yet When I Upgraded to this device and knew the speed was something special. The refresh rate makes it so smooth. Great Buy

Awesome build quality (except for screen flex) the issues come into play when you talk about battery life. Since it has a 300hz refresh rate that means no Nvidia Optimus so the dgpu is on all the time. Battery life is max 2hrs. Which makes it useless in my opinion.

DAB626,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about the battery runtime on your new computer. Here are some tips that we'd recommend in order to extend your battery life:
Change the Power Plan:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
2. On the options list, click Power Options.
3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

Premium gaming laptop. Fast, quiet, can run a little warm but not scorching hot. Only bad thing is that the battery dies so fast cause of the 300hz display

Great computer for gaming. There is an issue when waking computer with external devices. Only way to wake computer is by lifting up the screen. Also when updating alienware recommended software it froze and was unable to manually restart it. Advice from alienware was to let the battery run down, plug it in and restart which it did. Other than that it plays all the high graphic games flawlessly.

A bit pricey for the system, but without a doubt one of the best gaming laptop in the market I use it even to mine crypto

Still have it even though I upgraded and have it to my wife. She plays ark survival on it and it still pushes well over 100 frames.

I was in the market for a decent gaming laptop. I hadn't considered the Alienware as a top contender due to the price. But once I did my research I realized how important the build quality of the laptop was for me. There are many great gaming laptop brands and models, but few reach the quality level that Alienware does. To start with the build. It's fantastic. Everything feels solid and great to the touch. The magnesium alloy feels premium and doesn't catch oily fingerprint marks like regular plastic does. This helps keep the laptop looking clean most of the time. The only areas worth mentioning that are plastic are the lid hinge, the rear air exhaust vents, and the tip of the lid/base (this angled piece of plastic is made of a shiny slick plastic that DOES catch fingerprints) The keyboard is another aspect of this laptop worth mentioning. For me it has a great typing feel and good key travel. Don't really have any issues while typing out long paragraphs or gaming. The arrow keys are full sized and easy to access. It's also has very quiet key clicks when you use it. (For some people this might be a con) This model comes with the individual RGB key customization and the keyboard light shines nice and bright. Definitely had a lot of fun customizing to my taste. You can even customize the entire RGB setup based on the game or different user profile. This is done using AlienFX which isn't very intuitive at the moment and has some bugs. I do hope Alienware will work out the kinks and make it more user friendly in the future. The webcam is great to have, especially during this pandemic. Though it's not anything to really brag about, just your standard 720p quality. All the games I've thrown at it so far run flawlessly. Of course the fans do kick in when the temperature gets hot and can get a little loud. But that's to be expected from a gaming laptop. Thermals on idle are around 40-50C. One of the biggest issues I've had with this laptop is the size. It's not like your standard 15.6" laptop. Its definitely wider. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but if you start shopping around for bags or laptop sleeves you're going to soon find out that many brands don't support this size as it's just a tad too big. Not the biggest deal for me, but one that's definitely made my options limiting. Overall this is a great premium laptop that I recommend to any one in the market for one!

Been wanting a premium laptop for a long time,I was looking at foldables and other high end laptops but I was thinking that if I wanted to game on them I couldn't do it.so I decided to go with this alienware from best buy which was cheaper than on dell site.battery life really sucks if you care about being portable(1 hour 30 mins or so)but the specs that this machine has,not only let's you game but also do other stuff.i also got the no hard drive detected during setup and shortly after and I feel like this shouldn't happen at this price point.
