Alright, I will leave all the benchmark testing to the pros' - I'm sure you can find them everywhere. So lets talk about the use of this beast. First off the specs are great - i7 proc, 16GB RAM, 3070 GPU!!!!! All the ports you would need -EVER The build is solid - does have some weight to it but it doesn't twist if you hold it with 1 hand. Very solid So I started using this as I do all laptops - Can't play games all the time. initially started off with the customizations - RGB keyboard, power button, screen ID on back and the rear IO panel all are customizable. Adds your own flare to stand out just a little. All the "work" stuff flew and had no issues. The keyboard was responsive. I did not like the touchpad though - worked fine just didn't care for the feeling of it. Just the button press seems squishy to me. Gaming was great - Played some Doom Eternal and it was buttery smooth. The graphics were crisp and the colors were good. The refresh rate was on point. As I played I kept waiting to hear it try and take off but it never did!! I would play in an hour or so increments with max settings and it just churned it out with none of the fan noise I expected!!! KUDOS! The sound was really good, Speaker across the top of the keyboard and just under the front bezel on the front - provided great spatial and a wide stage. Impressed!! IO ports were plenty - USB-A, USB-C, HDMI(2.1 I might add), Display port, Thunderbolt, unexpected Ethernet port(no more adaptor), I was a bit disappointed there was only 1 USB-c port and it's on the rear. I use an NVMe external drive and Yubikey for work - so it was difficult having to reach around to the key. having that stick out the side 3 inches was brutal. Being nitpicky - I didn't care for the 15 logo - looked like a 13 to me! LOL Overall great laptop - Has everything you need for work and play but excels at PLAY!! Knocked it down 1 star because I didn't care for the touchpad and the lack of USB-C ports made it unconfortable for work devices with USB-A adaptors.

The computer is one of the most powerful laptops you can find at Best Buy. The hardware is pretty solid and powerful. But is the software the one that takes away 2 stars from this review, and I don’t mean because of Windows (I mean, windows is windows) but the Alienware app Command Center is trash… I don’t know what happened! It was working fine and the next minute I had to call Dell support and factory reset the computer! All I have just gone because problems with the one app that is supposed to be the flagship for Alienware. So disappointed. And the other star is taken away because the laptop gets HOT… even for my fingers to keep them in contact with the keyboard. I really expected more from an expensive gaming laptop like this.

      Hello TheResearcher,

Thank you for your thorough review on your m15. We appreciate your kind words and are happy to know that you're pleased with the performance of your laptop. We apologize for the trouble you have come across with the Alienware Command Center and the thermals of your laptop. We totally understand your frustrations but glad to learn that Dell Support was able to get you taken care of. If system thermals are of concern, below are steps that can help with overheating.

      • To tune your system, go to Alienware Command Center and select out of 4 different thermal profiles that will help you manage system temperatures as well as performance output to your preference. These include Cool, Quiet, Balanced, and Performance thermal profiles.

      • Our Alienware m15 follows 8th and 9th generation Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance.

      • We fully warrant the product under these conditions. If you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center, please contact support and they will take care of your issue - https://dell.to/2Inbc8F.

Great product. However the 15 inch chassis does make the heatsink smaller in turn means your computer will heat up faster.

Do not buy open box, their excellent condition was so bad… a lot of scratches around the screen. No original box, only laptop and charger. That’s it. Laptop itself is good, the only thing is you will stuck with soldering memory and will not able to replace it. I recommend to buy R5 instead.

Good PC for the price. I bought this open box and on sale and overall am very happy with the performance of this PC. The individual key rgb is nice but really time consuming to set up. The fact that the ram is not upgradeable is a bit of disappointment and the keyboard does get hot while playing games so probably better to use an external keyboard. So far the most demanding games I have played are Mortal Kombat and Doom Eternal but, it crushes them. I don't think you will find may laptops with a 300 htz display but then again not sure it makes that big of an impact on a 15 inch display anyway.

You can't beat this portable gaming rig!

I honestly can’t fathom how they packed this amount of power is this thin of a laptop! This laptop eats modern desktops for breakfast. If you need a portable gaming solution, you definitely need to look into this laptop! A 15.6” laptop housing a 10th gen Octo-core Intel CPU, a Nvidia RTX 3070, 300 HZ 3ms display, and lightning fast SSD storage, what more could you ask for? Out of the box, everything about this package just impresses. The laptop weighs less than 6lbs and the design and feel of this laptop is simply stunning. It has a sleek magnesium alloy shell, a fantastic color, and plenty of connectivity options. You won’t want to put this laptop down for numerous reasons. Getting started you’ll get the standard Windows 10 setup and then you’ll land at the desktop. I immediately started installing some games to jump right into it. No matter what settings I chose, I simply couldn’t get this setup to stutter one time. I ran ultra maxed out settings and this laptop just kept chugging away without a care in the world. It was apparent that this laptop is capable of generating some heat, and with the fans on full blast you’ll definitely want to be wearing headphones, but the cooling capability has been well thought out. While I wouldn’t recommend full tilt gaming on your lap due to the heat, the cooling system does keep temps fairly in check for how powerful this device is. The Alienware Control Center allows you to customize your lighting, cooling, and overclocking profiles. The only weird thing I found with this, is you have to wait a minute or two before all the drivers load and the software will work after a cold boot. Once it loads however, you’re good to go without issue. Overall, while there’s always compromises you have to make when putting this much power in such a compact package (battery life is not great, fans can get very loud, the power brick is pretty beefy), if you need a super compact gaming platform that will run circles around any other portable system, look no further! You will not be disappointed at the performance of this beast!

Computer was quick. Fans are loud and unfortunately the speakers are not. Was going to keep it for a while as it was the best I had tested, but the screen went black after a week and I had to return it due to error. Shame that it broke so quick, especially for being $2K.
