Great Price for Specs and Features

Excellent specs and build quality for the price. Body is mostly made of aluminum and has a soft rubber-like material on the deck with the keyboard and trackpad. Unit has 4 cooling fans and a vapor chamber, 4 m.2 NVMe storage bays, upgradeable memory to 64GB, RTX 4080 with 12GB VRAM, and 24-core Intel i9 CPU. From a design standpoint it is a very beautiful machine. Big, but beautiful. Also the display is a QHD+ 240Hz LCD display with an advertised *300 nits* LED backlight, yet the display still gets plenty bright and is very colorful and not oversaturated or dull. Only issue I would suggest is the battery life is very short once unit has been unplugged for external power which brings up another issue so may have as the power brick the unit comes with is massive and a bit on the heavy side. I must conclude with this though, that this is an amazingly powerful machine to play AAA title games on.

M16 laptop

The Alienware m16 is a powerhouse of a gaming laptop that truly lives up to the Alienware reputation. Right out of the box, it feels premium—the sleek design and sturdy build scream quality. The 16-inch screen is a game-changer, offering immersive visuals with vibrant colors and a buttery-smooth refresh rate that makes gaming feel incredibly fluid.
Performance-wise, this laptop doesn’t disappoint. It handles AAA titles with ease, even on high settings, and multitasking is a breeze thanks to the powerful processor and ample RAM. The cooling system is surprisingly effective for such a high-performance machine, keeping things running smoothly during long gaming sessions.
The RGB lighting is, of course, a nice touch—it’s customizable and adds that signature Alienware flair. The keyboard is comfortable, responsive, and perfect for both gaming and typing. Battery life isn’t its strongest suit, but that’s expected with this kind of power, and it’s more of a desktop replacement anyway.
If you’re looking for a top-tier gaming laptop that’s ready for anything you throw at it, the Alienware m16 is absolutely worth it. It’s an investment, but the performance and quality you get make it a no-brainer for serious gamers.

Equivalent Performance to a Desktop

The Alienware M16 laptop with a RTX4080 GPU is a well built laptop that performs as well as a desktop computer. In my case, I have an MSI desktop with a 10th. generation i7 CPU and a RTX4080 GPU. The M16 performs about 20% better than that desktop and completes the 3DMark TimeSpy benchmark with a score of approximately 18000. Although you are not likely to move the M!6 around very much due to its weight/bulk, the M16 can provide surprisingly good battery life of around 7hrs. for normal tasks if you set it to Silent Mode, turn down the brightness to around 35%, and decrease the screen frequency to 60. Battery life while gaming is terrible as expected. The screen is not OLED or miniLED but is good and bright enough for all conditions. The biggest negative that I have is that some form of usb charging was not included.

I purchased this to replace my 17” Dell XPS. For a gaming PC, it performed very well - nothing to complain about there. I really liked the styling and build quality as well - the keyboard had a great feel and the laptop overall just felt sturdy and substantial. However, it had just one flaw that - for me at least - was a deal-breaker: very limited portability. I don’t mean the laptop itself - it’s big and heavy for sure, but so are most gaming laptops. What I didn’t like was the enormous power brick that, by itself, weighs 2 1/2 pounds and the fact that, for a gaming laptop with limited battery life, Alienware didn’t include the ability to charge the laptop over the USB-C port, which a lot of gaming laptops feature. So you are basically stuck with the giant power brick if you want to leave the house. Evidently, you get both those features (slim power brick and UCB-C charging) with Alienware’s more-expensive X-series, so just keep that in mind if that kind of stuff matters to you.

This laptop is very good. The games run well on it at high settings. Took a star for 2 reasons. First is the fact that the screen doesnt suppoet hdr although it looks very good anyways. The second is a combination of the cost and the fact that fps on games are a little bit sporadic and seem to jump around. Mostly unnoticable though, and the 4 fans are quit loud when performance mode is active. Over really like the laptop and would buy it again. Glad i got the 4080 variant to get 4 slots for storage over 2 in the 4070 version i had originally considered. Speakers are very good and the directional aspect of them works well. Also, love the windows hello unlock using the camera. I am upgrading to 32 gb ram as the 16 included is almost maxed out when playing hogwarts legacy at max settings with frame generation. Occasionally when playing this game there is random stuttering and occasionally game freezes and sends me back to desktop home screen.

Honestly, haven’t run into any issues with this one. I have been able to run anything I want. I love using it very much. It does stand out in work situations and the battery dies so quickly, but what do you expect it’s a monster piece of tech. Today’s age you’ll always find an outlet nearby. The charger and weight though is probably my only quarrel. The brick is humungous and the laptop is a bit heavy but isn’t an issue and I am sure you can find I still stand by my five stars, my favorite laptop yet. Total Alienware tech experience and customization is just so fun and unique.

The M16 is a good 4070 laptop. It has a lot of room for upgrading ram and storage. However, the ssds need a heatsink and you can only but the thermal shields from dell.
Also the laptop runs hot quickly and the battery life is awful. You dont necessarily buy this laptop for good battery life.
It does what is supposed to do well. I have been able to game in 1440 or 4k with no issues.

It's an amazing laptop, a complete steal at this price point where else you going to get an rtx 4080 laptop for this price point? It has some shortcomings however, one the battery drain is a bit annoying so don't expect great battery life with the powerful gpu and processor, it needs a ram upgrade asap, the screen is beautiful the laptop runs flawlessly compared to the razer laptop nightmare I had to deal with, if you can find one I think it's worth buying

In a nutshell, a fantastic performer at the expense of awful Dell/Alienware software.
Performance : Going from a 10750H/RTX 3070 laptop to this 13900HX/RTX 4080 laptop felt pretty substantial. The fact this laptop can easily hit it's high power load without stutter is remarkable. The temps are pretty decent considering the specs of the system. I'm a little disappointed with how heavy the system is for a 16 incher, my old 17 inch was much lighter but it's a sacrifice you must make to keep high level performance.
Display : The screen is beautiful! While it isn't the brightest (roughly 320 to 350 nits) it's a surprisingly stunning and refreshing screen to look at under the right conditions. The 240 HZ QHD display feels great in my high FPS eSports titles, dare I say I prefer it over my big desktop for playing competitive shooters lol.

Great laptop, out performs my friends desktop with a 3080 by about 20 frames across the board in Alienware performance mode. No overclocking or things to download, performs right out of the box. Feels great to set graphics to ultra no matter the title, stays about 15 degrees cooler than my old MSI with a 2070 super and blows it away across the board. The frame and keyboard feel great and the hinge across the entire back gives me hope that it will really last. I would purchase again over MSI.

First, this laptop is amazing. Its cool, quiet and powerful. I’m not talking about laptop power. The i9-13900HX benches at a 30,000 on Cinebench multicore. That is 2000 more than what I get for my liquid cooled non overclocked i7-13700K on my custom desktop. The GPU is insane. Its not as good as a desktop grade RTX 4090 that I have, but its respectably as fast as a 3080 or 3080 Ti desktop with DLSS 3 as a bonus. The laptop is built like a tank, its solid, sturdy and completely covered with metal. The keyboard was a treat to type on. However, the screen could be a bit brighter or sharper. Its a great IPS panel, but I have bern spoilt with my OLED TV. As for another drawback, there is an audible electrical sound similar to coil whine. It is faint and not audible from a distance, but its there. I tested the 4070 version of this same laptop and even an M17 from last year, all three produced the same sound, so it surely isn’t a defect with my model. It could be a non-issue if you don’t pay attention to it.

One if the better priced 4080 laptops. Great thermal performance, great buukd quality. Software has a few bugs early on, like cpu power limits, but upon fixing its one of the fastest 4080 laptops because of great cooling. Screen is colorful too

This is an excellent laptop from a software performance standpoint. It's extremely fast & it stays relatively cool through moderate usage. However, this thing is heavy for a laptop! And the battery life is average (it only lasts about 3 hours on a full charge. If you can overlook these flaws, then this laptop will make you happy.

This laptop has had no issues playing any game I've thrown at it. Can easily handle ultra settings while still giving a good framerate. Even with the screen being 300 nits. Its still plenty bright. Cooling is really good, too. Haven't seen my gpu/cpu temps go past 80°C. Alienware command center doesn't always work properly, but i don't believe that to be a deal breaker.

I bought this as a gift but ended up buying another laptop and kept this. first of all, I added an additional NVME SSD to this machine, and the ssd drive disappeared. after replacing the ssd that I thought was the issue, kept disappearing I contacted Dell for support, it wasn't even a week since I bought this but Dell told me since they looked at the time purchased by Best Buy not me as a buyer not willing to replace the defect, and Best Buy is not willing to replace since im not part of elite member(don't buy this product from best buy, buy directly from dell). Finally they send a technician to replace the motherboard, after the technician left the speakers were not making a sound currently and I was time limited to this gift to be given and couldn't help me in time(found out the technician left a few screws inside on top of speakers) I fixed that myself. now that my laptop still giving the same issue, the ssd disappears and I have to restart and go to bios then turn it on and the drive will appear again. ) so I would say. now the good stuff about the laptop, the monitor is smooth 240hz looks great, and it has a few games running on it like a boss. CPU GPU and RAM work great fan of course goes crazy when playing games, and the battery is not really designed for this laptop, needs to be connected through a 300W adapter either way. I would say support sucks for this laptop. I'll try to see if they can fix my laptop again by calling their support, but honestly, I think I got a Lemmon and no one cares at Dell to fix my laptop

Bought this to do some online training for work and for some gaming. This thing runs quiet, cool and can handle anything that you throw at it. It's got incredible hardware for the price. It's also built like a tank. The only con I'd give it is the power adapter that comes with it. It's massive and heavy. Other than that, this thing is a winner!

This is an amazing machine! It easily handles everything I ask it to do. I primarily got this for gaming and work. It's new enough that's pretty future proof. The hardware is top shelf and will allow this laptop to last me quite a few years before I need to think about replacing it. I did have one little hiccup when I first brought it home. The battery it shipped with was defective and the system wouldn't even register that a battery was connected at all. This made a number of features not function properly. However, I contacted Dell Support and they are amazing human beings! Everyone I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helpful. The folks at Dell provided me with the best tech support that I have ever received. They ended up sending me a new battery which was super easy to swap in after removing the old battery. Ever since I installed the new battery everything has been working beautifully. The laptop runs perfectly which what I'd expect for the price tag. I upgraded the memory and storage to suit my needs and they were both very easy to do. I love this machine and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful gaming experience.

Coming up on one year and this laptop hasnt let me down.
Pros:
Mux switch - switch between dedicated graphics card or hybrid(intergated/dedicated)
Out of the box is great for Hi-Res gaming.
You get the flexibility of a desktop out of a laptop.
Cons:
Sounds like a commercial flight taking off in high demand situations.
Power brick is like carrying around a desktop power supply.
Laptop weights as much as a desktop tower.
Battery life - Its a beast housing the lastest high end cpu/gpu its gonna chug battery like V8 drinking gas, if battery is a concern grab a chromebook.
Overall this laptop is a beast.
I planned on moving back to desktop gaming but end up see a black friday sale on this gem, its capable of handling any game thrown at it. Max/Ultra graphics doesnt phase it.
VR runs smooth as butter.
Capable of game development through UE5.
Cuts through video editing.
Id recommend uping the RAM as 16gb tends to be the bottleneck.
You can also order a smaller form power brick.
*headphones and a simi pro microphone will make this thing shine*
