I wish I'd seen this at the theaters when it was released. Not intending to ever watch this movie, it showed on Xfinity stream and decided to see it. It has everything I like in a movie. Action, Romance, Future science fiction, bad vs good but most importantly it has meaning and purpose. The characters fit into the story fantastically. The digital code still works as of Oct 28th, 2023. It doesn't state there is an expiration on the box any where. My favorite movie was the matrix when it was released on dvd back in 1999. Then later on my favorite became Oblivion with Tom Cruise in 2012. But after seeing this movie, it's beaten all of them and by far! Every scene and every word of this movie fits into the story. There is no down time, no fill in pieces. The story flows together and I loved every moment in this movie. The price here is the lowest I've seen. Much lower than Amazon with their $39, this one is only $13.99! That's much lower than just the digital copy on all of the major digital services!

    A Kick-Butt Sci-Fi Action Movie with Heart

This Robert Rodriguez-directed science-fiction movie was made by a wonderful cast and crew and produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau; thus, it should not be surprising that this movie features great action and groundbreaking special effects. The dystopian landscape presented here is effective and compelling. Unlike some futuristic dystopian stories, however, this one has warmth. Rosa Salazar’s Oscar-worthy performance as Alita provides the heart and soul to this CGI-generated character, resulting in a most endearing heroine. Due to both Ms. Salazar’s “performance capture” and the CGI magic provided by the New Zealand VFX company, Weta Digital, it becomes easy to forget that one is watching a CGI-generated image instead of a real person. Among several other performances that are worthy of note, Christoph Waltz’s portrayal of Doctor Ido contributes to a father-daughter dynamic with the Alita character that is relatable and ultimately rewarding to behold. Moreover, Tom Holkenborg’s soundtrack not only succeeds in intensifying the drama and augmenting the emotional highs and lows, but is also a lovely work of art in itself. Be warned, however, that Alita’s journey cannot be contained by a single movie. Therefore, you might run the risk of craving for more. At the time of this writing, the possibility of a sequel is uncertain. Fortunately, this movie is very rewatchable and holds up very well to multiple viewings. The special features that are included are both interesting and informative and further makes this movie worthwhile to own. Highlights include the description of the backstory to Alita’s world and several scenes showcasing the raw, pre-animated motion capture performances. The latter will give the viewer a greater appreciation of the work of Ms. Salazar and other cast and crew.

I needed a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray video to demo and review a new high-end player and this movie fit those requirements including Dolby Atmos audio. Sweet that this package includes a standard Blu-Ray DVD, a 3D DVD version, dual Digital Downloads, along with the 4K Ultra HD DVD. Will also mention this was on sale, plus I had a 5 dollar coupon to use or lose, so it why not give it a go? The movie reminded me of Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, RoboCop, and Rollerball someone put in a blender, with a heavy dose of Japanese Cyberpunk flavoring, for the ultimate “smoothie” that was a pleasure to watch. Although a somewhat hokey story line, the futuristic CGI special effects, especially the roller ball arena game sequences, were captivating, thrilling to watch, with Atmos audio that shook my video room, and well worth the price of admission. Will be looking forward to the sequel that will no doubt be forthcoming.

This is one of title to seek out and purchase! James Cameron & Co have crafted an action-filled world filled with stunning sights and amazing sounds! This release has it all! The 4K/UHD media is nothing short of HDR visual splendor and Dolby Atmos Audio perfection The 3D media brings with it, picture quality bordering upon that of UHD, but with the added, encompassing heightened reality that only 3D can bring! The only downside on on the 3D media is that it does not appear to include Dolby Atmos Audio, which would have made this PERFECTION! ...then there is the standard 1080p 2D Blu-ray, which, if you have read my quick review of the 3D media, is just like it, ...only boring and flat, making me feel sorry for those who do not appreciate quality 3D presentations or those who missed out on the opportunity to land a television which supports both UHD as well as 3D formats. 4K/UHD, 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and a UHD Digital Copy all for just under $30? What are you waiting for!? BUY THIS TITLE!

The best movie I've seen in years...

Alita: Battle Angel is, to me, the definition of a classic. An enduring and compelling story and characters, a memorable experience, and an overall fun film. Based on the manga "Batle Angel Alita" (which I have only heard of, but never read), producer James Cameron and Director Robert Rodriguez have delivered a powerhouse sci-fi action film with probably the most beautiful CG rendered female character I have ever seen. The spectacle of this film belies a story of self-rediscovery, and good vs. evil. One does not need to read the original manga to understand this live action take. A lot of folks balk (rightfully so) at live-action translations of anime/manga (Speed Racer, The Last Airbender), but Alita Battle Angel seems (in the eyes of those more in the know) to get it right. Alita is a far more powerful and positive role-model for young girls than Captain Marvel ever will dream of being. It is a film devoid of identity politics. The only virtue it signals is "I will not stand by in the face of evil!" (A true virtue if ever I saw/heard one.) How can you not fall in love with Alita the first time she opens those big, beautiful brown eyes and awkens to find herself restored? Her journey to rediscovering who she was/is is fun-filled, action-packed, occasionally heartbreaking, but very compelling. This film is the best I've seen in years...the last good film I saw on the big screen was Rogue One (which has become my all time favorite Star Wars film). I got to see Alita in IMAX 3D, and I can now replicate much of that experience on my PlayStation 4 VR helmet to watch the film in "big screen 3D." If you get only one film this year, or if you are ever stranded on a remote island with a generator, improvised shelter, food/water and other survival necessities, Alita Battle Angel is the film you should have in your possession.

Theater review. Possible spoilers. Let me get this out of the way up front. I don’t read graphic novels of any sort, nor do I know what Manga is. I do know however, who James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez are and I’m a fan of sci-fi so here we go. The film is a composite of live action with bits and pieces of motion capture technology applied to some of the characters. Rodriguez directed and co-wrote the film with Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. The story is set about 500 years in the future and the Earth has been reduced to nearly inhabitable landscape of rust and broken down buildings called Iron City. Well except for this giant saucer of a city called Zalem that somehow floats above the clouds but has large tubes that link it with the ground in order to get supplies shipped up. This is where the "haves" live. Hmmm. This all sounds very familiar, right. Dr. Dyson Ido (I kept wondering if he’s an heir to the vacuum cleaner people) is out rummaging the dump where Zalem drop its refuse. There he finds the head of a female cyborg which appears to be intact. It turns out the doc (Christoph Waltz) is a scientist who manufactures mechanical limbs out of bits and pieces he finds. He also has a hunter-killer license which gives him permission to take out people or things on a criminal list. In other words he’s a bounty hunter like several others we will get to know. Ido digs up an old bionic body he was going to use for his crippled daughter before she was killed. He attaches it to the head and presto a girl who has no memory comes back to life. He calls her Alita (Rosa Salazar). She knows nothing of world she is in today and remembers nothing of her past. Slowly it will all come back to her. While exploring her neighborhood she meets a guy named Hugo (Keean Johnson). She looks at him with those large googly-eyes (again something I don’t understand why the doc couldn’t find normal sized eyes) and he’s smitten, even though she’s not exactly human. He teaches her how to play a game called motorball which is essentially roller derby but with the real possibility of death at the pro level. A character called Vector (Mahershala Ali) and his top scientist and ex-wife of Dr. Ido, Chiren (Jennifer Connelly) control the top players and regularly shop for the top mechanical parts, even if they are otherwise attached to humans. Vector is also a vehicle for the top guy on Zalem (uncredited Edward Norton) known as Nova. When his eyes turn blue you know it’s Nova speaking. Vector and Chiren are intent on capturing Alita when they learn that she is a quick learner and has great speed and strength. So there are some lengthy scenes where Alita goes mano y mano with Vector’s goon squad of assassins. In a big fight with biggest goon called Grewishka (Jackie Earle Haley), Alita gets chopped up pretty good. Fortunately she had earlier found an old space ship which had a bionic body of historic origin that Dr. Ido locked up. He now has no choice but to use it. Alita transforms pretty quickly from a 15 or 16 year old body to a 25 year old woman. And make no mistake the new suit leaves no doubt. She is now her proper age and the suit provides unusual abilities including strength, stamina and speed. The film had a huge budget, something on the order of $200 million and much is spent on the CGI and special effects. The film at its best is fast, colorful and full of action. This is one of those film that you might want to pay a little extra and see it on a big screen with lots of speakers and 3-D. It looks great. The story is nothing special and has been seen with some variations hundreds of times. Salazar is excellent as the Battle Angel. The film is set up for a sequel so watch the box office success if you want to see another. Yeah, I do.

One of the best films of 2019 is now available, and thanks to Best Buy, we have here the finest version you can own! The steelbook alone is worth the price, but shockingly Fox has released this in 3D! That is EXTREMELY rare here in the States nowadays, and any time it happens, a company should be supported. But that's not all! Also included is the 4K version of the film as well, of course, as the regular 2D blu ray as well as over two hours of incredible special features. This is one of the best 3D presentations out there, and if you own a 3D setup, then you most likely already own this, but if you don't, buy it now. Alita is one of the best created characters in years, and the world she lives in is truly alive and breathing with a long history behind it. It truly felt to me as if this was the first time I watched the original Star Wars where there was a massive history, and we were just stepping into this current story. This is worth every penny, and I cannot recommend it enough! Steelbook, 4K, and 3D! You cannot beat it!

I ordered this cause I really enjoyed the movie and have enjoyed the Manga long before there was a movie. Realistically, and in my opinion, this was the best designed package out there and came with all I wanted, except the DVD. I currently cannot use the 4K disk, but that will change in the future, when I feel like it. As for the internal packaging, no bloating or advertisements, just 1 needed slip with the digital download code, as any god movie should contain these days, and the layout was nice, no floppy fal-apart book style disk holders. Definitely recommend the movie and this edition, IF you're lucky enough to still find it available, cause all the others just look about the same to me and are not as artistic, in my opinion. Item came looking EXACTLY as pictured, and the bar across the top is just the informative paper backing and not a permanent part of the case.

The 4K UHD version of Alita: Battle Angel is almost a tale of two presentations, namely the live action elements and the computer rendered material. The former enjoys noticeable and substantial upticks in detail and fine detail in particular. A lot of admittedly mundane items like the grill on the tray Alita is on during "surgery" have impressive new delineation in the 4K presentation, and practical items like fibers on costumes are really very impressive looking throughout. Actual human actors, or at least their faces if they've been composited onto cyborg bodies, have substantial improvements in features like crags and pores. Even some of the CGI enjoys upticks in detail, as in the first close-up shot of Alita after her first surgery as she sleeps in her bed. But quite a bit of the other CGI actually looks more "cartoonish" in this 4K iteration, so much so that some may feel like they're actually watching an anime rather than an ostensible live action film. This "animated" and often somewhat soft looking aspect is evident from the first establishing scenes of Zalem hovering in the sky, and even extends to some shots of the trash heaps. Even some of the Motorball material looks like something out of an animated version of the story rather than live action. Perhaps surprisingly, I didn't see a huge difference in the palette courtesy of Dolby Vision, though there are some subtle changes. For example, Alita's bedroom has a slightly more orange-pink tone in this version and other elements like a purple feathered collar Chireen has in one scene looks considerably more saturated in 4K. There's one nice exception to this general rule, a purple infused love scene at circa 1:16:00 that has considerably more luster in the 4K presentation. I'd personally place the live action improvements here at close to 5.0 levels at least quite a bit of the time, but some of the CGI material gains little if any improvement in the 4K version, and in fact arguably looks more "cartoonish" in this version. As such, I'm splitting the difference in a manner of speaking by scoring this 4K version 4.0. It's often quite impressive, but there are some variances here that ardent videophiles may quibble with.

Although I am in my 60's, I do love it when a movie can win me over the way Alita: Battle Angel has done. Being that I am not a fan of anything Anime, I was very skeptical to say the least. This one film has made me realize that there are excellent and impressive qualities to this genre. The 3D blu ray is absolutely something to experience! The story is unique but familiar in ways that reminded me of blade runner, tron, rollerball, and other films that have similar themes. The acting is first rate, Christoph Waltz turns in another stellar performance , as does the entire cast. The CGI is amazing and the action is cleverly executed. James Cameron, Robert Rodriguez, and all involved in the making of this film can hold their heads high with this one. I found this film to be far better than Avitar (story wise) and I eagerly await a sequel. Alas, I am not 4k yet so that review will happen at a later date, but the 3D blu ray is stunning on my Epson 3700 projection system and the DTS 7.1 does its job.

This was probably my favorite movie of 2019. It features a great character (Alita), great story, fantastic action sequences, visually stunning, and is full of heart. I was not familiar with the Japanese manga source material but when I saw the trailer and Alita said, "I do not stand by in the presence of evil" and noticed that James Cameron (along with Jon Landau) was the producer, I became interested in seeing it. And I'm so glad I saw it. It was the first movie in a long time that I actually went to see multiple times in a movie theater. You don't have to be familiar with the manga to enjoy this movie. If you like characters in the mold of Superman or Captain America, you will love Alita. She is a good person who will defend the helpless against evil -- even against overwhelming odds. And just like Superman and Captain America, she can go toe to toe with the best of them. And I love the exclusive 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook from Best Buy!

When I first heard the actress was not Japanese I had some speculation on the quality of the film but, more and more I heard great things so, i wanted to see for myself. i can say that I am now glad on how this movie came out. It is unbelievable great film. it portrays the character perfectly. The acting is spot on and i hope they continue to make more. It is a a movie I can say I really like now. Hollywood is now getting the better grasp of anime but, these improvements from Ghost in the Shell was well worth it since the directors help create Ghost in the shell movie. It comes to show that failures are not failures if you learn from your mistakes from previous movies. This movie gets a gold star in my book. I would definitely want to watch it again and again.

I thought BBY was sold out of these, but I was lucky enough to find one on release day. I also bought the Collector's Edition for $200 on Amazon, and the quality of this steelbook is worth more to me than the entire collectors set from Amazon, aside from the lithographs in the Amazon set, but for $200???? No, get this steelbook, love the movie, watch all the extras! Buy the Amazon set if you want to throw your money at Cameron and hope for a sequel. Buy this set if you want something beautiful to display, and watch with ALL the 4k, 1080p, 3D quality your eyes could ever hope for, and the digital convenience of the digital download.

Alita is a tremendously likeable cyborg that is beautifully brought to life in the film. She also possesses memories and fighting abilities that at times make her rather ruthless. All "live" actors do a great job with their roles- especially the "father" and the real actress who we never see in the film. This actress makes Alita come to "life"- along with some great special effects people and the director. I highly recommend this film to an age group of 13 to adult because of some strong violence and the complexity of the story.

I was looking for an action movie and decided to get this one. I've seen the trailer for this movie and it looked great. Yeah, I know it isn't always a good idea to buy a movie based on it's trailer but I'm glad I did this time! The visuals and action scenes were amazing. Story and pace of the film was good too. The ending wasn't the best but I think it was left that way because the filmmakers were betting on making a sequel(s). Haven't heard anything about a sequel but if there's going to be one, definitely will watch it to see how the story continues.

I am so glad that the movie is in both 4k and 3D. It's hard to find anything in 3D anymore, so it is a blessing to find this new movie with such great 3D. There are so many new movies with great special effects, and I have always wished that they were in 3D to really enjoy those special effects. This movie takes care of that. Great job. Then, if we do not want to watch it in 3D (you know, with the glasses on), we can watch it in 4K. How great is that? Not to mention, it is one of the best 3D movies (picture quality wise), that I have ever seen. Thanks for making such a great product.
