ALL ABOUT NINA 2018
I was so blown away by Mary Elizabeth Winstead's performance as a stand-up comic, this film on the Big Screen Theatres three (3x)! So, I bought the DVD thinking I'd like to watch her stand-up comic performance again at home sometime. Well, when I got in the mood to watch this film again at home, I was somewhat disappointed!
I have to chalk it up to watching M.E.W. on the big screen was almost akin to seeing her perform live in a stand-up comedy club. And as a result, somehow it just didn't come across the same on my 32" TV small screen! That's all!
Fortunately, for whatever reason(s), this is my first disappointment with the DVD vs. Movie Theatre experience! I have never experienced the same level of disappointment watching shorts or epic movies of any genre before! Be they Mystery, Sagas, Adventure, Horror, Westerns, Action, Drama, Romantic Comedies, Documentaries, etc., etc.
Oh, well.
However, not all is lost with this DVD! From time to time, I can still find pleasure in watching Mary Elizabeth Winstead in "ALL ABOUT NINA" as an accomplished actress in the context of the rest of the film!
Still, the rest of the plot in the movie it turns out I wasn't THAT very much interested in. I do love watching M.E.W. in movies like "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," and numerous other smaller lead or co-lead films she's been in. She's such a unique, quirky type of actress -- not cut from the same traditional cloth of conventional experiences like other actors, and yet, she still is cast in many traditional roles, too.
Anyhoo, it's the sum total of her on-screen personality that I like, so in spite of I didn't get the same stand-up comic viewing experience I desired from the big screen, I find if I work really hard with my mind, I can still enjoy watching her iconoclastic approach as the character she portrays (Nina Geld)! It's just in the rest of the film's scenes -- NOT the stand-up comic scenes -- at least, NOT AS MUCH!
