Holy cow. First off, I have an aftermarket stereo system on my Jeep Wrangler JKU and oh man, this brought power and quality that I never knew existed. Sounds like a freaking concert. I have also bought the Maestro parts necessary to link the cars computer to the Radio, that way I have all the gauges and information like RPM, MPG, Speed, all in real time. Thirdly, it comes with an HDMI input so I bought the alpine USB/HDMI accessory extension, a long with the Apple HDMI converter so I can screenplay anything on the radio from my IPhone. Fourthly, CarPlay is amazing, I have never touched my phone less in the car while driving, makes the music sound better as well. The design is perfect for making any older car look and feel amazingly new in the inside. There is a dim light on the very bottom making it obvious at night that the radio is floating in a futuristic style. I love it. The only thing I can say COULD BE BETTER, is the quality of the display. I believe it is a 480 but hopefully could be a 1080 in the future. Doesn’t bother me that much because the sound makes up for it by a million , and to me that’s why I bought this radio, for an all around good purchase for me, the driver.

I was skeptical about installing this in a older car, but afterwards I am so glad that I did it. It sounds phenomenal and it’s easy to navigate.

Great CarPlay Retrofit Unit

Alpine hit a home run with this head unit for cars that didn't come with CarPlay or Android Auto from the factory. Installation was fairly straight forward, however, a word of caution regarding the "power plate" when doing the install you need to be careful as it seems like one could easily break the switch taking the plate on and off. I recommend putting a piece of electrical tape over the switch to hold the switch down as well as protect from when you put the plate on.

Bestbuy techician took his time and care in installation - John @ BestBuy Parkmeadows (Lonetree, CO). I was skeptical that the alpine Halo 9 inch HU could be installed in my 2012 Mercedes GL. The results are remarkable! Looks and operate like an OEM infotainment system with Apple CarPlay.
Free installation (parts extra) is a major plus. Other stores have quoted more than $500 as a custom installation.

finally finished installing the radio on my tahoe 07 and its insane! To get the most of it you have to be willing to spend more money to get the full features. xm radio, maestro link, etc.. do your decent research before buying the radio otherwise you will not be able to appreciate its full potential. You can also watch your firestick on it (using your hotspot).

I needed to upgrade my stock 2011 Golf, and this head unit modernized it in one swoop. It has every feature I can think of, and with the proper wiring and adapters, retained all my stock wheel controls, camera, and antennas. Go watch a few reviews or breakdowns on this unit on YouTube, I can’t even list all the features, to much to write. I also had a iLX-107 in my last car, and this thing blows it away.

Installed on my 2011 Xterra. Fits perfectly and only covers about 20% of each vent.
The second EQ feature is garbage.
The crossover graph is really good.
4 volts out are nice and welcome.
CarPlay maps are barely visible, this radio does not have the dynamic range to handle apple maps, everything looks white, the streets you are not on are completely invisible, only floating names. So use Waze on custom color mode and it will be ok.
Only one usb?? No iPod classic support?
HDMI in is nice.
It’s a cheap HU with an awesome display.

Screen is comfortable to the eyes even at night time. Car play works as described and all navigation maps that are available for it work flawlessly. To be able to summon Siri to read my messages and to reply is also a great feature, that way you are still keeping your eyes on the road. If you have a factory radio installed and you make the change you will hear the difference as well. I recommend this headunit more than the old ilx-f107 with wireless car play if you don’t have wireless charging capabilities in your vehicle because you still have to charge the device. HD radio works also like a charm at it will find up to HD4 frequencies.

First and for most I love the idea of having a huge screen that is smart via Andriod Auto and that makes my drive safe because of the Google assistant features. Waze kinda sucks on the system but Google maps is awesome. Hence, Andriod Auto. All and all. I have zero regrets about spending big bucks for this awesome media center.

PROS:
Large Screen
Flexible mounting position
Abundance of EQ options
CONS:
Poor screen resolution
Large bezels
No volume knob
Limited options for customizing the look (few colors & no wallpaper)
No wireless Android Auto or Carplay
No Bluray/DVD/CD slot
I understand that I've listed many gripes above, but first and foremost, for me, I needed a receiver that allowed me to customize the sound the way I wanted. When it comes to that, this radio does it better than any other receiver that's widely available. It allows you to set volume levels by source, EQ settings by source and speakers, and crossover settings by speaker. Furthermore, there's an app that you can also use to make adjustments using your phone.
As for the look, I prefer it over a traditional double DIN for my vehicle, because a regular double DIN receiver would have left blank plastic spacers on either side of the radio. With this unit, most people who've rode in the vehicle think it's stock. It helps that all of the factory functionality has remained, including steering wheel controls and backup camera. However, retaining all factory functions required an additional purchase of a Maestro unit and other components at about $150 extra.
My biggest gripe with the unit is that there's no volume knob. Prior to my purchase, I didn't think I'd miss the knob as much, but I was terribly wrong. The bezels around the screen are huge by even 2016 standards. I feel that Alpine could have certainly put a volume knob in the lower left corner and perhaps a tune/seek knob on the lower right. The touch buttons and steering wheel controls work well enough for what they are, but when you need to make immediate adjustments, they just can't compare to the knobs that most of us have become accustomed to.
My other major complaint is the shameful screen resolution. In this day and age where 5 and 6 inch mobile phones have 1080p screens or better, the 480p resolution on this 9 inch screen is dreadful by comparison. On many screens and menus, the resolution won't be much of an issue, however anytime there's smaller print or fine details displayed, the pitifully low resolution becomes obvious.
It should also be noted that this radio is very restrictive about the adjustments you're allowed to make unless you have applied the parking brake. You can't even enter the settings menu without applying the parking brake! I understand locking out video while driving, but Alpine has gone overboard here. Fortunately, there are ways around this restriction, but I'll leave you to your Googles to find them. I will say that the solution was very easy, cheap and effective.
Both Apple Carplay and Android Auto work, but unfortunately they're not wireless. It should be noted that if using either of these, the radio disables Bluetooth. So if I have one phone connected via Bluetooth and I subsequently connect my other phone via Carplay/Android Auto, the
Bluetooth connection is immediately dropped. Research seems to indicate that this is a restriction implemented by Apple and Google. So I can't fault Alpine here.
All in all, the radio is just OK for the money. Alpine has a cheaper model, the ILX-207, that has almost the exact same functionality as this ILX-F309. It's only a 7 inch screen, but you may prefer it as the resolution doesn't look as bad on the smaller display. My advice is to get the cheaper one. I do like the innovative thinking with this 9 inch floating display; hopefully Alpine will improve on this idea. If they can correct the major issues, I'll certainly be looking to upgrade.

I really needed a big screen unit for my truck. I had the Best Buy team install multiple cameras on my truck which really helps. The big screen makes it easy to see in all directions. The sound is awesome and I really like the apple car play interface.

This radio is amazing. The screen quality and functionality is perfect. With this radio also being a Single Din mounting size, it fits many vehicles that could not accommodate a double din radio. What an amazing radio that you will not be disappointed in.

This is a great size for a conversion truck. Big enough to see but not overbearing in size. Only issue is needing the conversion switch for radio stations and store did not have in stock, so had to order. This was installed just before the lockdown started and by the time the switch was received we were in lockdown. Other than that map is GREAT
