This is an economical way for basic recording of TV shows using an HDTV antenna instead of cable. You can spend more and get more features. For the price, this item can't be beat.

Great buy for $40.00 if you want to record off air TV.
The unit has only a single tuner so you cannot play and record another channel simultaneously.
An external USB storage device is needed to record. 64GB FAT32 USB drive and 1TB Toshiba NTFS external drive both work on this unit.
The software is clunky and takes some getting used to.

Our 2018 Visio didn’t have a built in converter, so we bought this Aluratek. We already had an antenna - basic that comes with the RV. Now we get free TV no matter where we go and we can pause and record our shows.
Only reason I did not give this product a 5 is because the remote has to be pointed at the unit in just the right spot to work and when using some of the options there is a lag.
Great value!

I was assured by the Best Buy salesperson this device would record two channels at once - no, it will not - I was also assured I could record a channel and watch a different channel - again, it will not allow that - the device packaging fails to mention you must watch a sub-channel of the channel you are recording, i.e. if you record 13-2 you must watch another 13 channel - the remote is garbage and not at all user-responsive - each button has to be pushed in just the right way at just the right angle - the manual for the device is complete garbage also and I was only able to figure out the basics of using this device by watching videos others had put online, thankfully - the device consistently loses my timers and I have to start from scratch, and altho "weekly" is a recording option, the timers usually disappear before the week comes around - overall it's a pretty big waste of money, but for someone like me who is in a rural area without streaming ability, it's my only dvr option since Tablo requires WiFi, as do most other dvr options - but if you have access to high-speed internet, I would definitely avoid this device!

When I purchased my Vizio TV I did not realize it was a "monitor" . It was a great price. I could stream np, but I could not get local stations, until I purchased this converter box. Not only can I get the local stations, but I can also record shows. I have all the local stations, and streaming services for 1/4 the price I was paying for cable. Highly recommend cutting the cord, if you have a "monitor" tv, the Aluratek Digital TV converter box with recorder is the best way to go.

Digital back to analog signal

I was very happy to find a devise that would convert current digital signals to analog so I could keep on using my old style big box type TV's. This TV is out in my shop, but still a great TV. However, this converter jumbles up stations from what they are on my cable guide. Channel 4 shows up as 26.1, Channel 25 is 33.1 and so forth. It does regroup them back into order after you get past about the first 25 channels or so. Picture quality is great. Also, there are a couple of my favorite cable channels (Laff and INSP) that will not come through. Also, reprograming the channels is not a quick process. Nice piece of equipment but has a few shortcomings. Was normally $50.00, but I got it on sale for $35.00.

It works but I was trying to replace my Tivo with this device. It does everything advertised but it causes a lot of perturbation if you are accustomed to Tivo user interface. There are many more user machincations to get from A to B. Finally we decided the overhead was too burdensome. For those with a limted budget and less rigid expectations this would do the job. They also have humans at the other end of their support line which is a huge boost. Cost is also very attractive. It was a worthwhile experiment. I thank Best Buy for letting me test the concept.

I'm having issues with the channels maintaining clarity, some channels just disappear from the FAVORITES area because of it.
I need to turn it on/off every so often whenever there's an audio mismatch with the visual.
The instructions are not complete.

This is a great, simple solution to getting digital TV access without monthly payments. Very simple setup. Just plug in an antenna. I plugged the unit into a projector in my man cave, and now no need for an extra cable box. I use HDMI but I was pleased to see the other connection options. I am very happy with this purchase.

Aluratek DVR Review

I would rate this product no better then average. This is the 3rd different brand of dvr I have bought. They all have the same problems. When trying to record they all say going to record mode and they all go to unknown error leaving. The only way I can record is to power down the machine and then set the recording. Then it will record the programs set, When recording a 1080 programs it has program drop outs. It works fine on 480 programs. For these reasons I would not recommend this machine. If you can work around the problems it would do until a better more reliable machine comes out on the market.

pro: easy to use. no fees/subscriptions needed to use. great for recording off of an antenna (I don’t have cable).
con: the remote range is terrible. have to be about 3-4 feet from the box for it to work.
other: no internal storage so you plug in your own USB or external hard drive via USB
