Great for cord cutters
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For anyone wishing to cut the cable tv cord this is an excellent buy. It is inexpensive and when combined with a portable usb drive which can be bought on sale relatively cheaply it serves as a usable alternative to cable tv DVR boxes. A person can view the programming for each station each day and if desired set it to record a program. I have several similar boxes and the only draw back to them are the remotes which aren't as responsive as they could be but with cable tv bills being so high, it is something I can live with.

Aluratek? no, All you rate is F
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was pretty easy. I could get acceptable quality from HDMI. I attached 1 TB external hard drive and was able to record about 20 hours of different programs. Less than 3 weeks after the purchase and less than a week before I could return it, USB port stopped working. The message keeps saying no external drive found. No matter how many times I tried to restart, or use other flash drives. Looks like USB port is out. What a waste of time and money. Bestbuy should take this item off the shelf. I would not recommend this product to a friend, unless I want to lose a friend.

Aluratek TV recorder
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit works very well otherwise. It converts and uses an obsolete format originally from Sony which is very inefficient and doesn't record for very long on a 32gb stick which is the largest size supported. I use it to record TV shows to watch over the weekend so I don't miss them. The reason they claimed won't work on cable is that internal software doesn't detect if channel is scrambled. It doesn't skip over them so fills channel log up with them until full so can't access the unscrambled ones that are usually located in the upper numbers where cable companies put them. Problem proably could be fixed with a software update. My antenna is not strong enough for it to pick up all the channels my TV does though. It does get the three major ones that I normally watch so I am happy about that. I would buy another one to get another show or two but it seems no longer available.

It works for me
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed an easy device to watch local channels on my projector/receiver combo. Used the flat antenna and everything works well after setup. No issues adding to my harmony remote either. The factory remote is fine but don't need it with a universal.

More than I needed, but I needed it NOW!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The converter setup was straightforward and easy and it worked. I would have preferred to find one without the video recorder, hence less expensive, but I did not have time to drive around to find one. Have not tried to use the recorder capability.

Aluratek DVR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Aluratek digital video recorder does exactly what I was looking for. It records TV programs onto an external hard drive. The Aluratek DVR cost $50 and the external hard drive cost $79. This is a very inexpensive way to record future programs that I would otherwise miss.

My box is on fire. Love it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv box comes in handy. I can watch channels that my tv doesn’t show. Also I can record shows and watch them later. That’s a big plus for my wife and me.

Good value
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When this works it is very good. The problem is it is sporadic - it does not always do what it's supposed to. Seem to have to reboot often. But I am very happy with the recording when viewing it.

It is a tuner, nothing more
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed this because my big expensive tv that I bought years ago did not have a tuner built in. It is easy set up, fast, and the picture looks good. I do not use the DVR function so I can not comment on it.

Great little machine!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little DVR. Had reservations about purchasing it but since my Panasonic DVD DVR quit I had to try it. It works off your TV antenna so you don't have to worry about any other fees. Like most products the instructions are lacking. I went online and read the questions an found out how to record one channel and watch another. It's worth every penny especially since I can use a usb- equivalent to 6 DVD's an less space.

Aluratek review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dependable, with a conveniently large remote. Only problem was the last one I had stopped working during the baseball all-star game . Didn't bother to check the date that it was purchased.

Good Buy
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Work fairly well. Biggest gripe is the brochure. You need a microscope to read it. Unnecessarily poor. Also, the available PDF manual is the wrong one. Possibly for an older model. However, the unit performs it's designed tasks if you can figure out how to use it without a decent manual. I have many Chinese friends who speak English perfectly. Why can't the Chinese in China get someone like my Chinese friends to put together a decent manual?
