with how things are in the world, especially with computer hardware, it's hard to say what's good value anymore. It's definitely not a good time to build a PC. But the 3600 is probably still decent price/performance if you can get it at $200 or less. Anything higher than that and I would actually start looking at intel options. Personally been a fan of AMD, but intel is coming back.. maybe due to AMD's complacence. You have to consider motherboards, ram, and other stuff when building a PC.. not just the price of the CPU. Some intel CPU+motherboard performance options are actually cheaper now.
I would still recommend this CPU if motherboard prices are low and also if the 5600x isn't much more. If you can get the 3600 for less than 160-170.. then I would highly suggest it at that price.

It’s a great budget CPU but it was definitely not worth 200 back when I first bought it. It’s more worth what it’s listed now. Wish it was this cheap before :/

No setbacks, all good so far and the savings to performance results are real if you are on a budget.
The beautiful part about this cpu for me is it performs fantastic out of the box with little to no tweaking aside from prioritizing you're core utilization in the OS. No Integrated Graphics is a bummer but definitely not a deal breaker.
Monitor you're motherboards QVL, Matisse CPU's are delicate, powerful and beautiful but ugly as hell if treated wrong lol.
I am currently running this cpu on a Rog Crosshair VI Hero with Best Buy purchased LPX Vengeance dual channel 2400Mhz. I first attempted this setup using LPX Vengeance dual channel 3000Mhz and I nearly lost my sanity dealing with the compatibility hiccups on this motherboard. If you have this board and are not considerably above average in OC experience I highly advise against the ladder ram speed. I literally heard an Asus engineer even advise against the use of 3000Mhz on the Ryzen 5/3600 Rog Crosshair VI Hero combo. The last bios update improved its compatibility slightly but the future initialization errors still persist. Go 2400Mhz or 3200Mhz.

Faster than a 2700x in gaming

This is faster than a 2700x in gaming and only falls behind the 3700x by a tiny margin in most games. It is also neck to neck with the 8700k which costs far more money. It is by far the best bang for your buck processor on the market and more or less a worthy successor to the former budget king the i5 2500k. If you are a gamer this is the only CPU you will probably need for the next 5 or 6 years.

Can't beat a Ryzen!

I know, I know, the pros and cons of AMD vs Intel will always be there. Simple fact of the matter though; If you're building on a tighter budget, Ryzen is a safe bet. New, top of the line chips are going for pricey amounts, and often Intel is beating out AMD in specs, BUT unless you plan on editing a motion picture movie in the next few years, 3rd Gen Ryzens (or even 2nd for that matter) will be able to handle anything you can throw at it. And for the price point, at this level of processor, they beat out Intel.
This is the 3rd Ryzen series I've recently purchased, and all are running their systems amazingly well, for all tasks thrown at them. Throw this thing on a decent MB with 16 gigs of Ram, and a Decent Graphics Card (good luck still on that last part), and you'll be set for a good, long while, gaming or otherwise.

It's a decent cpu for it's price. I bought it 2 years ago for $200 and it's proved very good for gaming, and programming. However not the best for video editing and rendering, but still good. But I would recommend a Ryzen 7 or similar Intel CPU for a more professional approach at video editing. I personally use my PC as a all around system which Ryzen takes the crown for. It's can be good at many tasks and excellent in a couple. Not just good at gaming and that's it. So overall great CPU.

A Good upgrade for a 4c/4t CPU!

Before I upgraded to this CPU I had a Ryzen 3 2300x paired with a RX 570, when playing games like Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War I would have severe fps drops while playing and could not get a constant fps even when turning down the settings. After I got this CPU my performance remained constant, and really made a difference In my gaming experience.

So anyone looking at this understands the performance to dollar value - it's off the charts for production, gaming, and multitasking, etc.
Buying from Best Buy was unexpected and amazing as i usually go to newegg or amazon for computer parts, even ebay - but it was available at the right price PLUS a $25 combo discount for getting the motherboard too! msi tomahawk max b450, which at the time of purchase, was sold out EVERYWHERE or listed for $50 OVER the list price. It was price right here at Best Buy and I got away with both for something like $279 for both CPU and Mobo AFTER taxes while it was sold out EVERYWHERE else... shipped free and delivered timely during a virus outbreak... needless to say, best buy is the first place I check for any pc hardware from now on, period. Thank you!

This processor is the most bang for your buck cpu out there. It is more than enough to run any game and most applications without breaking much of a sweat. I was close to buying the ryzen 7 but saved my self $100 by getting the 5 instead once I realized it was essentially overkill for average gaming needs. (Especially with a good graphics card) Compared to the intel equivalent (i5-9400F) it offers similar to even better performance for cheaper. Honestly the ryzen series as a whole has made AMD the processor of choice now and intel has to start taking its competition seriously now.

This is the cpu to get for pure gamers. There are higher models with more cores in the Ryzen 3000 series line, but unless you live stream, encode videos, or do home recording for music, there's no need to spend more money on cores/threads you don't need.
The 3600 comes with a stock cooler that does the job, CPU idles at around 47c-50c, when playing demanding games it can get to about 75c to 85c. Still 10c lower than the maximum specified operating temp of 95c from AMD.
Gamers, get this cheaper CPU, and use the savings on other parts of your build.

Great performance in games and in productivity tasks. No problem getting it up and running. Cooler install was very simple and stock paste comes pre-applied. Remember to get higher speed ram and appropriately set it in your BIOS so you are getting the most out of Ryzen CPUs.
I only wish I waited a little longer to downgrade and get the 3300x, which ships later this month and has neck-and-neck gaming performance for $60 less. The 3600 is better priced for people that will get more out of the productivity side of the extra cores/threads (video rendering, streaming, etc). For pure gaming, the 3300x is a much better value, where you can put that savings into a better video card or more storage.

Incredibly fast CPU for only $200. Doesnt bottleneck my RTX 2060. Best value CPU in the world, for sure. Temps are amazig too, I’m using the stock cooler and usually stay in the 50s and very low 60s while gaming at unlimited FPS! no

Replaced a Ryzen 7 1700 with the the 3600 and both single/multi-core benchmarks saw huge gains. The 6-core 3600 is faster in Cinebench/3DMark than the 8-core 1700. Memory runs at higher speeds and tighter timings with the 3600 as well (on a X370 motherboard...make sure you have the latest BIOS before installing the 3XXX series processors). For $200, it smokes anything Intel has to offer.

I'm normally one to buy the latest and greatest when I do an upgrade, but since everything was sold out, I decided to go with this.
Wow, what a great purchase! It's an amazing CPU that gets within 30% of the top of the line Ryzens out there today (for single core speeds). That means, even if you do get a Ryzen 9 5950x, unless you're running applications that can take advantage of more than six cores, you may not notice a huge difference.
At $199 this CPU is a steal. Don't pay scalper prices. Go to your local Best Buy and pick this up. You'll be glad you did!

Excellent processor with outstanding CPU benchmark tests for even power users or top gamers. Does fantastic job with games with no lag using a good graphics card. All of our productivity and photo editing software run at top notch.
Packaged very well and CPU fan included is a great value! Fan does an excellent job keeping it cool. Can even overclock with a box fan, but go all out with liquid cooler.
Best value for the money and watch the sales! We got an amazing price on it.

this cpu has rlly put me through everything for the past year. i have it paired with a very budgeted build (b450 tomahawk max, nzxt h510, gtx 1060, 16gb ram) and compared to my old i5 7500 it kills. 6 cores and 12 threads is really enough to get all of my multitasking done and the clock speed is very good considering i am running off of the basic stock cooler included which can actually do some slight overclocking however do not overclock with this same cooler on a faster cpu such as the ryzen 5 5600x because your pc will be an entire time bomb (especially if running off of an nzxt h510 case). i plan to pair this with a 3060 ti or a 3070 (any 30 series between 400 and 600). i do not happen to know about the recommended wattage to pair this cpu with because i dont really know at all how to explain power supplies however what i can say is, get a gold rated psu and make sure its at least semi modular it will save your life as far as cables and risks. i made the mistake of buying a bronze rated psu (evga 600bq) which isnt terrible however when it came and put everything together my system always flashed for one second then went off. i replaced it with a corsair rm750 gold and everything was perfect, and i have room for upgrades considering the high wattage. dont buy an aio for this cpu unless u want flashy looks which u can probably buy a slightly more expensive cpu or you are experimentally doing insane overclocking. in conclusion this cpu is pretty hot ngl.

As of Mid 2020 Best Value CPU

You just can't beat the price to performance of this CPU in mid-2020. It's a good all-around processor with 6 cores 12 threads, but don't bother using the included cooler if you want to get the most out of it. Nearly any 3rd party cooler is an improvement. Even with a $35 CPU cooler this chip can maintain 4.1Ghz on all-cores easily.
Buy this for the value, for the CPU, but not for the cooler. Plan on buying a cooler separately.

Whether you’re making a gaming PC or a multimedia PC, this is a CPU I would recommend to start with. Default clocks alone have impressed me with gaming. My RX 590 would crash at high FPS when paired with a 2400g APU. When I finally accumulated the money to purchase a CPU, I held off for a bit and decided to go with the 3000 series Ryzen 5 due to it being on sale. Since installation, my gaming experience has been smooth and pleasant. When I start my next PC build for my girlfriend, I’m definitely starting with this CPU and upgrading from here.

Seriously, the amount of value you're getting for this price point is unbeatable. This cpu shines when gaming, which what you're probably going to use this cpu for. However, it can also handle productivity and workstation applications, so it's not just a one trick pony. However, it is worth to note that the stock cooler is pretty meh and the cpu will get up to 85 celsius when under heavy load, so maybe getting the 3600x or a third party cooler is the way to go. But still, anyone with half a brain should pick this cpu over what intel is offering.

This is a very amazing CPU for the price I paired it with a RX-5700 and I'm getting great performance in 1440p for pretty much every game even new ones.
The only thing is that if you have a old motherboard you must update your bios before installing this one or it won't boot up look online for which motherboard you have and which one need to update to use third gen ryzen
